  • AP Warned of New Orleans Disaster

"The Buses would have only complicated matters and even during a "Mandatory Evacuation" people are still Free to Stay in their homes."

The buses could have been prepositioned at the Superdome and the convention center. That would have enabled a local first response to get survivors out of the city after the storm. Instead they left the bus fleet to become inundated.

The incompetence of the local authorities and the governor was of criminal proportions. They obviously had NO plan for what everyone has known for decades would be the result if the city were hit by a Cat #3 hurricane.

"Why did 'they' build a city in a spot 8 feet below sea level?"

There is some logical appeal to the question. The left wing MSM has also been saying that this catastrophe is due to humans interfering with the environment and trying to control the forces of nature. Well, the Dutch started doing this centuries ago--and on a far grander scale. No one is criticizing them nor did anyone make those kinds of remarks when the Dutch suffered catastrophic flooding from the North sea in the 1950s.

No. Light travels at 186,000 miles per SECOND.

Since the koran contains provisions permitting lying to "infidels," an oath to tell the truth based thereon would be subject to challenge. I wonder if the aclu has thought this through. The book itself belies adherence to truth.
  • Is the Eminent Domain decision Constitutional?

"Why should the U.S. Supreme Court step into a state matter when the state constitution does not differ from the U.S. Constitution?"

The Connecticut decision was definitive of the state constitution, but the SCOTUS has the last word on the US Constitution, including the Fifth Amendment, even if the state and federal constitutional provisions are identical.

"Defining public usage is, and should be, a state matter."

Not when the state law violates US Constitutional rights. For instance, had Connecticut interpreted its state laws and constitution to permit compelled confessions in violation of the US Fifth Amendment's self incrimination provision, I think you would see things differently.

"...the Government can take property for public use in so far as there is just compensation. Is this a correct interpretation of the 5th Amendment?"

Yes. The latest ruling from the SCOTUS left it pretty much to the states to determine what is a "public use," which, in the case before the court, meant increased tax revenue from the private developer after the property was "redeveloped" to its best and highest use as a commercial retail project.

Definitely was a parody. Listen to the last line telling people to do all they can to get Rove out of Washington "...because we can't." That is definitely one of the best parodies he's ever done.

I may offend some with this. If so, I'm sorry. But the more I see of this Rove thing, the more I think he's once again throwing his rubbing his hands together, throwing his head back, and laughing like a maniac."

  • Is the "Nuclear" terrorist threat real, believeable or more hype than reality?

Nuclear weapons are not simple devices. They must be precisely and constantly maintained to be operational. Three factors are significant, in my opinion. First, the so-called suitcase nukes from the Soviet era are most likely inoperable, even if they still exist. Second, the islamofascists are pretty primitive when it comes to advanced technology. Third, if and when they get a nuclear weapon they will use it at the earliest opportunity because they can't insure its continued operability for an extended period in the field, especially if it is positioned in this country.

The most likely scenario would be a nuclear explosion in a shipping container in the port of NY, Miami, or LA soon after its arrival, but even pulling that off would not be easy for them.

I think that Savage's scenarios are a little paranoid and fantastic. However, you are not paranoid just because you think someone wants to kill you, and it doesn't hurt to be cautious. Open borders is not only not cautious, it's asking to be attacked.

Has the meltdown started yet at DU? They must be sensing that the Evil Genius, Darth Rove, is going to skate, thereby proving the pervasiveness of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy and its dominance of the MSM. I'm sure that the DUmmies will be wailing, moaning, and gnashing their teeth--yea, even rending their garments and donning sack cloth and ashes! Oh woe!!

Following is a pertinent comment this morning from Wretchard at Belmont Club re the wacko Left and the London attack:

I believe we are watching the slow collapse of all the nice little barriers of political correctness which have grown around the medieval ideology called Wahabism. The Left is dying from the dagger of Islam plunged repeatedly into its back. As they are glad to receive the wounds, well let them.

I think people like Fouad Ajami understand quite clearly that unless Islam reforms it will quite literally blow itself up, one way or the other. It's a race against time really. That we are in a war is indisputable. The only question remaining is whether the casualties will be numbered in the thousands or the billions. The Left, if left alone, will guarantee it is in the billions. But they are dying from their own stupidity, so there's hope yet.

I heard his statements in response to Hannity's questions, and I was very encouraged that the dems' threatened filibuster based on objections to the appointee's judicial philosophy will violate the agreement of the Gang of 14. He was very emphatic that he and the other signatories to the agreement would vote for the rule change to preclude filibusters for judicial appointees if Schumer et al. sought to filibuster based on judicial philosophy.

This guy sounds like a nut right off DU. He doesn't realize how cruel he is being to the DU wackos. They have been whipping themselves into a fury about the prospect of the Evil Genius Rove being busted, and this idiot is throwing gasoline on their little campfire. When nothing happens to Rove they will go into major meltdown about the all-powerful Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. I predict that O'Donnell is contributing to several more of the inevitable nervous breakdowns and suicides that will ensue when the Rove storm hits the wall.

"The Iroquois and other NE tribes were also not nearly as egalitarian with regard to their women as the author states."

You got that right! They sided with the British in the Revolution and in a series of raids burned over 1,000 settlements throughout western NY and central and western PA. Washington dispatched 5,000 militia with the express goal of destroying, not simply defeating, the Six Nations, which they did, slaughtering and burning Indian settlements just as the Indians had done to the settlers. The Six Nations ceased to be a factor in the War and never recovered.

Of course, the backward islamic countries would suffer the most casualties from a pandemic. Thus a rational enemy would not resort to such a weapon against us. The real problem is that the islamofascists are completely stupid.
