Any FReepers use "pay as you go" cell phone services? If so, what is the best? I'm interested in having a cell phone for emergencies and for trips to the mainland (so it'd have to be able to work nationwide), but I don't want to be tied to a contract or regular monthly fee. Right now I'm with Verizon Wireless, but I use my cell so infrequently (10-20 minutes on average/month) that the $25 monthly cost is just not worth it.

Hawaii Is World's Stand-In for 'Lost' By TARA GODVIN Associated Press Writer May 24, 2005, 4:43 PM EDT MOKULEIA, Hawaii -- As a band of jittery plane crash survivors huddle on an island hillside listening to a distress call that has looped through the airwaves for 16 years, one of them asks, "Where ARE we?" The answer: The Hawaiian island of Oahu. The actors on the hit ABC show "Lost," which wraps up its debut season Wednesday, are of course free to enjoy Oahu. Their characters are miserably unaware of the civilization just off frame. But the fans know better...

This was probably the best concert aired on PBS I've ever seen. From the link at the top (sorry, it is a "donation page" but I couldn't find a better one): Celtic Woman The program brings to the screen five exceptional new Irish stars in a spectacular performance recorded live at Dublin's prestigious Helix Centre. Performing some of the most beautiful and best-loved songs in the musical repertoire, the four singers -- 15-year-old Chloë Agnew, Lisa Kelly, Méav Ní Mhaolchatha and Orlagh Fallon -- and violinist Máiréad Nesbitt bring the Dublin audience to their feet over and over again. Normally,...

Sexy Lost star enjoys success HOLLYWOOD -- Sometimes it's good to be lost. Just ask Naveen Andrews, who plays Sayid, the former Iraqi intelligence officer who is stranded with the other crash survivors on the hit TV series Lost. "I don't think anybody thought we'd be this popular," says Andrews about the show that has amassed the biggest cult following since The X-Files. Andrews insists he's as much in the dark about what's really going on in Lost as the audiences are. "I've heard all the rumours including the one that we're in purgatory," he says, adding "which is a...

Unlocking the Philosophy of 'Lost' (Sunday, January 23 12:01 AM) By Kate O'Hare LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) On ABC's Wednesday castaway drama "Lost," con man Sawyer (Josh Holloway) sits on the beach reading Richard Adams' "Watership Down."On its surface, the novel is about several rabbits that escape the destruction of their warren and traverse the English countryside to seek a new home. But the tale quickly becomes one of heroism, survival and friendship, and ultimately, the challenge of building a free society versus yielding to a totalitarian one. It's so much more than just bunnies on the run. When ABC first...

[snip] Spellings became the subject of conservative sniping soon after moving to Washington after she was asked on C-SPAN to react to census data showing a decline in the traditional family. "So what?" she replied, noting that there were "lots of different types of family" and that she herself was "a single mom." [/snip]

Anyone else out there already addicted to "Lost"? :-) I was skeptical about even tuning in for the pilot, which aired September 22; I decided to mainly because it's filmed on Oahu. But by the closing credits of that first episode, I was a bit surprised to hear myself thinking, "Hey, that was actually good." I've been hooked since, and every week the show seems to get even better. Without a doubt my favorite episode so far was "Walkabout", in which Locke's shocking secret was revealed. It was amazing how much depth the writers and actor (Terry O'Quinn) were able...
