When asked by former Judge Andrew Napolitano, an Italian-American, where in the Constitution it authorizes the federal government to regulate the delivery of health care, S.C. Representative James Clyburn had this to say: How about you show me where in the Constitution it prohibits the federal government from doing this? Fair or not, what I heard was an unspoken word in the air directed at Judge Napolitano: How about you show me where in the Constitution it prohibits the federal government from doing this, Guido? But Clyburn’s shocking disrespect...

Top 6 Observations about the President's First Pitch: 6. Too Cool for School. Why was he wearing baggy jeans? He looked completely out of place at a ball park in July. 5. Super Bowl Shuffle. Why did he shuffle/jog to the mound? His gait looked more appropriate for a basketball introduction? 4. Camera Angle-Gate....

There is a simple way to get to the bottom of whether torture was used in Gitmo terror suspects and Dick Cheney mentioned it in his speech today: For reasons the administration has yet to explain, they believe the public has a right to know the method of the questions, but not the content of the answers. That is the key question. What we have heard from the Obama administration is that it is their opinion that torture was committed. But it is impossible to make such a statement in a legal context because

If you think that no precedent was set by President Obama's firing of Rick Wagoner, think again. _______ Dear President Obama: One of the challenges we’ve confronted from the beginning of buying US debt is what to do with the state of the struggling US economy. In recent months, my government has been reviewing requests by the US government for additional government assistance from the Chinese government, as well as plans developed by the US government to restructure, to modernize, and to make itself more competitive. Our evaluation is

In case you missed it, didn't want to watch it or could not stomach it, here is an abridged version of some of the precious lines from the speech. 9:22 - $2500 credit for tuition for families. Super, now they'll just owe 37,000 per year in tuition. 9:25 - President says nobody messes with Joe Biden. A couple of things here. Can you imagine a Fortune 500 CEO using such sophomoric slang to his Board of Directors or to shareholders. Am I'm pretty sure everyone messes with Joe Biden. 9:32 - The flow of credit is the lifeblood of the...

The Castaways address one question every week submitted by their readers. This week, they address the concept of states' rights and how it has virtually disappeared from any dialogue about government. The latest violence perpetrated against the ability of states to govern themselves, in the form of the movement toward a socialistic economy, may be the final nail in the coffin...

Now that President Obama has signed, as I call it, the Everything Liberals Want spending bill (or ELW bill for short) and because the Democrats fail to acknowledge the existence of economic incentives, here are the Top 6 Detrimental Consequences of the stimulus bill.

Senator Sherrod Brown took a private, taxpayer-funded plane from Cleveland to Washington and back so he could vote on the stimulus bill and get back to his mother's funeral the next day. Will he have to appear before Congress and be excoriated for flying on a private jet?

While I love my own brother, I just don’t understand Wall Street. My brother (an investment banker) and I had a heated conversation on the “bailout” and the bonuses that have been paid to the investment bankers that have utterly failed on Wall Street. And I just don’t understand the argument...
  • Support For the Stimulus Is Not Based on Economics or History

I have expressed repeatedly my dismay at the total lack of understanding of economics from President Obama and others. Eugene Robinson and Harold Meyerson each prove that support for this so-called stimulus bill is not based on history, economics or logic. Thee basis upon which they both attempt to justify this spending bill are so poorly researched and argued, that the only reasonable conclusion is that their priority is to push ideology. Here are a few examples

With the so-called stimulus bill heading toward some resolution, I suspect that the attention of some Democrats on the Hill is starting to head in other directions. According to some indications, it appears as though the next item on the agenda, other than the new bank bailout monstrosity, will be the Employee Free Choice Act. This is shaping up to be another battle...

I stopped watching when he went on a circuituous, meandering and desultory non-answer to the second question about being in a permanent recession if we don't act on the spending bill fast. Setting aside the fact that President Obama is totally ignorant on how to think in economic terms, the one statement that was stunning in its arrogance and stupidity was his reference to Japan's Lost Decade of the 1990s as what could happened to the economy if we do not pass the spending bill. Oh, the irony.
