  • American Girl's gifts to agency lead school to scrap show (Catholic Grade School, WI)

Don't feel sorry for my kids, please. They have lots to play with and lots to read without touching Harry Potter or AG. I made the decision not to buy the AG books, and all I had to do was tell my seven year old that they are helping a group that promotes abortion (I actually phrased it as "they tell girls that abortion is okay"), my daughter decided herself that she didn't want to buy the books. She doesn't want her money to go to anyone who is pro abortion, though that is not the phrase she'd use for it.

Devastation over toys and books is a pretty shallow kind of thing, IMO. You'd be "devastated" not to read Harry Potter? Gracious, girl! Pick up some Tolkien or C.S. Lewis! They are better written, anyhow! Devastated to lose your doll? Then you are placing far too much emphasis on material things.

Besides, I don't know anyone who is taking away the dolls over this. They are just not buying any more. And American Girl will listen. This kind of partnership is a serious issue, and people who stand by and watch evil are committing an evil themselves. (Sin of omission, anyone?) And, to give money to those who do evil is even worse! It's materially participating in immoral behavior!

Personally, I've never bought these dolls because I really like my arm and leg. They are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. But when I told my daughter (7) that AG was helping a company that teaches girls that abortion is okay, she did not want to buy the books. Of all the issues Girls.Inc deals with, this is the only one she knows about (and only because she asked what it was). I'm really disappointed because I was ready to buy a boatload of these books for my girls. The stories are so wholesome, but I refuse to give money to a company that helps Girls.Inc. What's really sad is that Girls.Inc didn't used to be this way.

Oh, and by the way, when I wrote to ask AG if they were affiliated with the group, I got an answer back the next day. When my seven year old wrote to tell them she was disappointed in their support of a group that is pro abortion (http://ramblinggopsoccermom.blogspot.com/2005/10/letter-to-american-girls.html), she got no reply. It's been more than a week now, and nothing. Not even a form letter, folks.

There are other wholesome stories out there, and I'll seek them out. There are other toys, and I'll buy those.

Besides, I'm not into the whole "Girl Power" thing, anyway. Seems a way to get little girls to beat up on boys so they are ripe for NOW, anyway.

I believe I've heard of that movie (and might have taped it on EWTN recently). I rented "The Song of Bernadette" last summer and my 6 y.o. (then 5) LOVED it.

I'll have to see if that is the movie I have on my DVR, and if not, I'll add that to the Netflix list. :)

Thanks for the info, either way!

Agreed. Maccabees (sp? too) would be great. And especially so because it's one of the books that is in the Catholic Bible, but was deleted in the Protestant Bible when Luther split the Church. :) It would not only prove that Gibson isn't anti-Semitic, but would also draw attention to a neglected book of the Old Testament.

But Fatima...AH! My girls would LOVE that. They love the Blessed Virgin, and are fascinated that Mary has appeared to children so often. It makes them feel special to know such a thing.

Not the bottomless Tuxedo, I assume.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I honestly don't desire him in a sexual way (hard for men to believe, I know...), but would love to just talk to him and meet him. Though, I admit freely, he is WAY easy on the eyes. *mmmmmm...* But still, no bottomless tuxes. A nice Armani wouldn't be bad.

Do you mean your girls might not be old enough to watch it? If so, I wouldn't have hesitated to have any of my children (fully grown now, so the point is moot for me!) watch it, regardless of their age at the time. The program is not exploitive or preachy in any way - it simply shows how miraculous conception and the development of the fetus in the womb truly is. If I misunderstood your meaning, my apologies.

I think that they are a bit young. (They are 6 and 3.) I will probably let them see some of it, but the beginning gives a bit more information on how conception happens than I'm comfortable sharing with them right now. I've heard that we witness the birth, as well, which is another thing that I'm not comfortable with for them. My 3 y.o. doesn't even fathom how a baby gets out, and my 6 y.o. has a vague idea that there is a birth canal. Where that is, she doesn't yet know. But I'm watching parts of it right now, and it's really amazing. A VERY Pro Life statement (which is not hard, since really, our bodies are made to be so). BTW, no need to apologize. I'm a bit protective of my girls, and I try hard to strike a balance between answering their questions and giving too much information. Or, what I should say is, I ride that fence. I answer as best I can without giving more information than they really are asking for. I wouldn't get into a menstrual cycle with them just because they find (ahem) feminine products in a drawer in my bathroom! LOL I know different people go at different paces for this, and I've known people who let their older children watch their baby brother or sister being born. For us, well...let's just say it's not our style. :)

Yeah, I'm going to believe a Communist over the United State Military...

OH MY!!! Did you see that pig fly by???

I honestly cannot fathom how anyone would think that we'd try to kill these people. Or how they believe the words of an America-hating Communist over our military. We've had car bombs out the wazoo, and lefties want to blame our guys for firing to stop a car that is barreling towards them? What-ever.

I just LOVE Mel Gibson. *sigh* I probably won't be watching the re-editted version now, but might later on (when my kids are old enough to possibly watch).

A Fatima movie?? THAT would be awesome! And I love his attitude about Hollywood's snub of his film. Plus, he honestly does not care if they give it an Oscar. It's not why he made the movie, though I'm sure that a lot of the nonbelievers in LA can't understand that at all.

You think that Robyn Gibson would loan me her husband? Not for anything tawdry, mind you. I'd just have him wear a tuxedo and fetch me things. ;)

I actually have had online conversations with people (Christians, no less) who insist that the pope ought to retire now because the Catholic Church ought to have someone who is "young and healthy" running it. *sigh*

I keep trying to point out that this is a very WORLDLY way of looking at John Paul II; God cares not for physical health as much as spiritual health. In the latter, JPII is VERY strong.

Personally, I pray for God's will with our beloved pope. I was a little girl when JPII was selected as pope, and don't clearly remember any other. I love him dearly, and wish to meet him someday. I'd love for him to stay, but if God wills that JPII should go home, then far be it from me to argue with Him!! ;)

I am truly surprised, though, how many Christians and Pro Lifers feel that the pope should step down because of his illnesses. It's very disheartening.

I'm glad to hear it was so good. I have it ready to watch on my DVR, and will probably save it for a while (until my girls are ready for it). Maybe we'll watch parts of it after my DH and I screen it.

I used to live in Orlando, and though I did not have the opportunity to celebrate Mass with Bishop Wenski when he first became co-adjudicator, some of the homeschool moms I knew did. They said he talked about Heaven and Hell and Purgatory. I've heard he is proudly Pro Life and pretty orthodox. Definitely a real Catholic.

There was an article a while back about the "John Paul" priests that are making their way through seminary these days, and how much more conservative and orthodox new priests are becoming. I believe it will be a while, but such priests will be the bishops of the future, and will move our Church back where She belongs.

I agree with you on how you feel after changing channels. I left EWTN on nearly all day during the summer, and felt fine with the kids seeing nearly everything on it (abortion descriptions excluded - they are just a bit too young for that now). I have learned so much about the faith that I grew up with, thanks to Mother. She really is doing God's work!

Clearly, this man does not understand the Catholic faith if he would be willing to give up receiving Our Lord in Holy Communion in order to conform to the banal liberal vanity of supporting abortion rights.

    DING DING DING

WE HAVE A WINNER HERE! I would NEVER want to willingly pit myself against God and profane the Eucharist, nor would I want to give that up. I'd rather give up my sinful ways than give up our Lord at Mass!
