The deal to store 30,000 tons of grain in 2024 and 2025 was signed by agriculture and food minister Geir Pollestad, finance minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum and four private companies. The wheat, which will belong to the Norwegian government, will be stored in already existing facilities by the companies in facilities across the country. Kremlin propagandists have claimed that countries in Latin America, including Mexico, could host missiles that can strike American targets. (snip)"Russians on Kremlin State TV yesterday declared that Mexico was their military ally and they are wanting to place their missiles on Mexican territory so Mexico can attack the United States," Jake Broe a former U.S. Air Force nuclear and missile operations officer, posted on X next to a screen grab. "This is insane." Mexico has condemned Putin's invasion of Ukraine but has adopted a policy of neutrality and refused to participate in sanctions against Moscow. Newsweek has contacted the Mexican...

Ten days after a cybersecurity threat shut down dozens of routine services and threw a wrench into daily city business, Cleveland City Hall is planning—finally—to reopen Thursday at noon. On June 10, the city announced a "cyber attack" had hindered regular operations, leading to a sudden shut down, which meant hundreds of employees working remote and residents shut out from the building. Days later, the attack was categorized as ransomware, meaning hackers had penetrated an open door in the city's digital infrastructure and potentially held files or servers hostage. It's unclear if Clevelanders' personal data was comprised, as is possible...

The Swiss National Bank on Thursday trimmed its key interest rate by 25 basis points to 1.25%, continuing cuts at a time when sentiment over monetary policy easing remains mixed among major economies. Two thirds of economists polled by Reuters had anticipated the SNB would decide in favor of a 25-basis-point-cut to 1.25%. The Swiss franc weakened in the wake of the announcement, with the Euro gaining 0.3% and the U.S. dollar up 0.5% against the Swiss currency at 8:55 a.m. London time. Following the Thursday decision, the Swiss central bank pegged its conditional forecast for inflation at 1.3% for...

CLEVELAND (WJW) — The woman accused of stabbing a 3-year-old boy and his mother in a local Giant Eagle parking lot went before a judge to be arraigned Monday morning, but what is typically a quick court proceeding became a more lengthy process as the judge asked the defendant multiple times if she had received her indictment. At first, Bionca Ellis, 33, appeared for the hearing via video from the Cuyahoga County Jail. She sat silently with her head down. “Ms. Ellis, why don’t you want to answer these questions?” asked the judge.

The FOX 8 I-Team learned the city of Cleveland is investigating what it calls a “cyber incident.” A spokesperson for the mayor’s office said, “We have not confirmed its nature and scope, we are taking this incident seriously. As a precautionary measure, the city has shut down the affected systems while we focus on securing and restoring services safely.” As a result, Cleveland City Hall is closed on Monday, June 10, along with the offices in Erieview. “These systems will remain offline until we have a better understanding of the situation,” the city said. “We take cyberthreats extremely seriously and...

NATO is creating a series of "land corridors" that would be used to rush U.S. troops across Europe to confront Russian forces in the event of a major conflict with Moscow, The Telegraph reported on June 4. Warnings that the Kremlin could attack a NATO country in the near future have increased in urgency in recent months. Eirik Kristoffersen, Norway's top general, said the military alliance only has two to three years to prepare, Bloomberg reported on June 3. "At one point someone said it'll take 10 years (before Russia reconstitutes its offensive capacity), but I think we're back to...

In a July 2014 panel hosted by the Post, Woodward called the pardon “an act of courage.” He had talked with Ford decades after the pardon and said the former President made a “very compelling argument” for his actions based on national security and economic needs. The late Senator Ted Kennedy said in 2001 that while he initially opposed the pardon, he had come to accept it as the best move for the country. And Richard Ben-Veniste, a former Watergate prosecutor and a Democrat, wrote about the pardon shortly after Ford’s passing in 2006. “Did Ford make the right decision...

The program will give 100 people in one of Cleveland’s neighborhoods a wage subsidy or guaranteed salary of $50,000 a year for three years. Councilmember Stephanie Howse-Jones said the city council voted to invest $600,000 into the pilot. She said this program could be beneficial for both employees and businesses. “In this pilot,...

While calling it a "fluid situation" the authority said it expected to reopen the ports at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, but has continued to delay saying there remain issues bringing the gate system back up. The next update is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on...

House Democrats are probing President Trump’s request for $1 billion in campaign cash from major oil companies. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) penned a letter to CEOs of eight energy companies and an oil lobbying group that reportedly attended a dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort with the former president last month. Outlets, including The Hill, reported that at the dinner, Trump asked the industry to raise $1 billion to support his presidential campaign. The Washington Post, which shared the story first, reported that getting him the funds would be a “deal,” because of all the money the industry would save in...

What I can explain to you is — is that there is famine — full-blown famine — in the north, and it's moving its way south," she said. Since mid-March, the United Nations has said famine is "imminent" in Gaza, but has not yet officially stated that it believes famine has struck the state. In April, Samantha Power, the director of the U.S. Agency for International Development became the first U.S. official to say that it was credible to assess that famine is occurring in portions of Gaza. No other U.S. official has made that assessment. McCain said that while...
