I was told to turn in my TA-50 901A gear first, after getting separation papers. Every piece had to be accounted for. This was in October of 1967 Germany.
I was drafted on November 22, 1965 in Philadelphia. There were 110 of us, we were told they needed volunteers for the Marines. If non, 10% of us would go to the Marines. Well, they ones acting up all morning, were sent over.
With today’s youth, there will be NO DRAFT. They would burn the place down. No respect for anyone.
June of 1967, I was stationed in Germany, the 4th Armored Division was put on FULL ALERT at the start of the 6 Day War. I asked the CO, who are we fighting for? He turned and walked away.
This was the real deal, secure footlockers in basement, acquire your issued weapons and ammunition. Write a letter home....!

I can remember Naamans Rd, being backed-up during the Christmas Holiday at the State line, years ago. Pennsylvania State Police inspecting trunks of PA cars.
I’m here laughing. I have the same setup, along with blue tape on top of the clock to mark 12:00, pencil on wall. Mark on clock for 6:00, pencil mark on wall. It weighs 35lbs. I wasn’t thinking ahead about the time change when I bought the damn thing. It does look nice on the bare wall over the fridge.
Devil hates a coward, just brought the 10-foot ladder in.
I was in the Communication Center, 4th Armored Division Headquarters, 1966-67, Top Secret Clearance. We were scared to death of the NSA and Leavenworth. Times have really changed.
I was stationed in Germany, (1966-67). We were issued the dreaded TA50-901A gear. On February 14, 1967, it was (-)17F, the gear helped, but you were still cold as hell on a field maneuver east of Nuremberg. The coldest I’ve ever been in my life.
Back to the gear being dreaded. During a Battalion Inspection, the “gear” had to be displayed in a designated Army fashion. Every piece issued had its place. When you received your Separation Papers, the gear was the very first thing you turned in (you can’t go out on maneuvers without the gear).
