She is a Military Sealift Command ship (USNS), not a USS. Those ships include USNS Harvy Milk and USNS Cesar Chavez.

Was never going to make Admiral anyway. The captain of that ship is a civilian. He is not an officer of the United States Navy.

The vote to not secede was taken 5 months before the legislators were arrested.

Not quite the case. In a special session of the Maryland Legislature held April 1861 the vote was 53 to remain in the Union and 13 to secede from the Union. The next regular session of the Maryland Legislature met September 1861. It was at this time about 1/3 of the legislators were arrested by Federal authorities.

Lee was one of the executors of the Custus estate. There were 4 other executors named in the will.

They were not Lee’s slaves. They were the property of G.W.P. Custus, Lee’s father in-law. Lee was one of the executors listed the Custus will. The will authorized the executors to free the slaves once the debts and legacies’ were paid in full. But under no circumstance were they to be kept in bondage longer than five years after Custus’s death. Lee kept some of the Custus slaves for the entire five years, freeing the last of them in Dec 1862.

Not really. All the Corwin Amendment did was to prevent the U.S. Government from taking any action against slavery in any state where it was already legal. States were free to end the institution if the so chose to do so, and Congress had the authority to prevent the introduction of slavery into any territory they so chose.
