When he first started he didn’t even speak English.
hospitalized for an undisclosed illness......🤔
RIP El Toro.....63 is far too young
Heck, there’s Americans that can’t speak Engrish!............
In his wind up, he looked to the sky and I believe he said (through an interpreter) he was looking to God. RIP.
He was a fantastic pitcher. However, as I recall, he always struggled with his weight. They did not tell a cause of death, so maybe, since he was rather young, it may have had something to do with that, like diabetes.
I’m just making a guess.
RIP to Fernando, one really great pitcher.
Some of em are on this board, though that is usually the booze.
During a time when MLB was still entertaining for this fan. RIP, Fernando.
Yea, strange windup.
Like Luis Tiant, who passed last week.
Remember Fernando Mania. He threw a nasty screwball; a pitch that has gone extinct. One of those pitchers with a unique throwing motion. Supposedly the scout who discovered Fernando had a lifetime job as the radar gun guy right behind the catcher.
Wow, 17 years in the major leagues as a pitcher is an incredible accomplishment. Especially in an era when starters were allowed to pitch complete games.
Yes, his nasty screwball — the screwgie — is legendary. I was living in So Cal when he burst on the scene and was an instant superstar. Good times.
Fernie was the king of shut-outs and even pitched a no-hitter.
Bump
Wow! What a pair. That was when baseball was. LA Dodgers. When Via Sxully left, I lost interest in baseball. But we have Steve Garvey running again for California.
When Fernando was pitching so well his first season, Tommy Lasorda said he wanted to teach Fernando English. One of the Dodger players jumped up from the bench and said, “Don’t you teach him one damned thing!”
“63” lol.
very popular put a lot of butts in the seats.
the scout who discovered Fernando had a lifetime job as the radar gun guy right behind the catcher.
