Simple question about flash mobs, did a federal or state program pay for the phones that they used to organize these mobs? Assurance wireless is crowing about providing free cell phones in this video: http://youtu.be/KQl9Tb8_cL8 So did taxpayers pay for the very devices that have been used against us? It's an outrage if that's the case, I would like to know the answer to this question.

Black Jesus film preaches politics over religion By Rebecca Harrison Thu Jan 19, 6:02 AM ET JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - Billed as the world's first black Jesus movie, "Son of Man" portrays Christ as a modern African revolutionary and aims to shatter the Western image of a placid savior with fair hair and blue eyes. The South African film, which premieres on Sunday at the U.S. Sundance festival in Utah, transports the life and death of Christ from first century Palestine to a contemporary African state racked by war and poverty. Jesus is born in a shanty-town shed, a far cry...

Feminism in FLUX Thursday December 8 10:17 AM ET What do Gloria Steinhem, Ruth Ginsberg and Betty Friedan have in common with Barbarella, Ripley and Aeon Flux? Not nearly enough, suggests columnist Todd Gilchrist. By Todd Gilchrist, FilmStew.com Arriving at the box office last weekend with what was described as the 'high end of low expectations,' Aeon Flux and its $12 million take instantly join the ranks of an emerging but still dubious tradition of female-driven action films. The adventure, which stars Charlize Theron (Monster), follows in the inestimable footsteps of such recent jaunts as Tomb Raider and Catwoman, in...

Katrina Lays Bare US Refinery Crisis Washington (AFP) Sep 01, 2005 Hurricane Katrina has shut down 10 percent of US refinery capacity at the worst possible time when oil facilities were already straining to cope with booming summer demand. Department of Energy figures out Thursday showed that nine refineries are closed and oil production in the Gulf of Mexico remains at a virtual standstill after Katrina swept a deadly path through the southeastern United States. Three major oil pipelines connecting the south to the rest of the country are operating at vastly reduced capacity in the deadly storm's wake. President...

Bush To Withdraw From Outer Space Treaty In a move that will probably anger the international community, but may please space advocates, the Bush Administration is planning to withdraw from the Outer Space Treaty and claim the Moon as sovereign United States territory. This will lead in turn to a program to sell off parcels of lunar real estate and mineral rights in order to finance the President's Moon, Mars, and Beyond Vision. With the prospect of helium 3 mining and other commercial ventures on the Moon, Dr. Lirpa Sloof, a space policy analyst from the European Union, suggests that...

One small step for space tourism... If plans for a new range of suborbital vehicles get off the drawing board, then holidays in space could get off the ground In the past year, a lot has changed in the field of human spaceflight. In January, President George Bush brushed aside the fact that America's entire space-shuttle fleet was grounded when he announced grandiose plans to put people back on the moon, and then to launch a manned mission to Mars. In June, Burt Rutan, an American aeronautical engineer, showed that human spaceflight was no longer the preserve of governments by...

By ERICA WERNER, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - Outer space could become the final frontier of tourism under legislation passed Wednesday by the Senate to regulate commercial human spaceflight. The bill, approved by voice vote in the final minutes of the 108th Congress, would authorize the Federal Aviation Administration to issue permits allowing private spacecraft operators to blast paying passengers into space. The agency would also regulate the young industry, which was invigorated by the successful flights of a privately financed manned rocket over California's Mojave Desert in October. While laws exist to regulate private-sector space endeavors such as satellite...

FaithSats and Lunar Crucifices If only rhetoric could fuel spaceships. by Greg Zsidisin Los Angeles CA (SPX) Nov 22, 2004 It's time that we put a giant crucifix in lights on the Moon! Congress has just pushed through a $388 billion spending bill. Into it was snuck a funding increase for NASA to accommodate George W. Bush's plan to return astronauts to the Moon. This puts Bush's vaunted space plan on par with other such last-minute additions as one removing previous barriers to government funding of anti-abortion doctors. It also serves as another reward to Senator Tom DeLay (R-Texas), whom...
