The Return of Rambo Source: Nu Image/Millennium Films May 29, 2005

US-based film production company Nu Image/Millennium Films have acquired the film rights to the "Rambo" film franchise from Miramax/Dimension Films, with principal shooting for Rambo IV to begin in Sofia, Bulgaria in January 2006, with filming locations in India and the USA.

Sylvester Stallone, the Italian-American film actor who played the titular role in the "Rambo" film trilogy, signed with Nu Image/Millennium Films to begin Rambo IV in May 2005, stating that the production company had optioned a book for the new "Rambo," for which he has adapted a complete script, likening it to vengeance films like Deliverance and Straw Dogs. According to Stallone, the new plotline sees the character of Rambo as having "assimilated into the tapestry of America," living with his family in relative peace for the past fifteen years but still working for the military, when work pressures force him to move his family to the American outback. The Navajo-Indian former Green Beret and his family are then subject to an attack by white-supremacists, and Rambo has to risk life-and-limb in rescuing his 10-year old daughter from being held hostage. Commentators have noted that the premise of the film is similar to one touted by Stallone in 1997, following the Oklahoma bombings, and comparisons have been drawn with the US federal government's attack at Ruby Ridge in 1991, including the role played by former Green Beret Colonel James "Bo" Gritz.

Rambo was a Navajo?

I lived on the fringes of the Navajo Reservation, and no Navajo I saw could pass as Italian.

It was like when they changed the bad guys in "Sum of all Fears" from Muslim terrorists to Nazis. Hollywood will only tolerate PC bad guys.

I think I'm going to demand the title of "Original American" from now on

At least the TV show 24 is honest who the bad guy is. I read that the original Rambo was that he was working for enviormentalists at the UN when its attacked.

So is the "way past his prime" Stallone going to run the evildoers over with his wheelchair? Is he going to brain them with his portable oxygen bottle? Will he give them vicious papercuts with his AARP membership card?

Stay tuned.

A settled, domesticated Rambo called out of semi-retirement by his daughter's kidnapping might work although it's not all that original (Schwarzaneggers's "Commando"). The white supremacist thing, that's really, really worn out. Any enemy other than Al Qaeda would be too obviously pusillanimous.

I truly dispise the Hollywood crowd pretending to be warriors, proud and honorable all the while they are nothing but poseurs of questionable character and no warrior credentials.

Is it just me or has anyone else discovered literature from the 18th and 19th C is much more interesting that the weaselly mimbling that comes out of the current culture? And they wonder why movie attendance is down.

Back in the eighties and nineties Hollywood had no hesitation in dealing in over the top A-rab villains. The all-time scariest would have to be David Suchet (Hercule Poirot) in "Executive Decision"

The first Rambo is a classic for being so bad that it's good; it should have been featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

I honestly never watched the sequels and don't wish to either.

More Hollywood silence following the Van Gogh assassination. I guess Rambo doesn't want to stick his neck out.

Rambo was the first rated R movie I ever saw. I remember being in my friends basement at about 11pm beginning to watch it thinking we were really doing something bad...hehehe

It could be too they don't have the guts to portray Muslims as bad guys. Might end up like Van Gough (sp).
