Can an immigrant who resides legally in the U.S. on a work visa but who voted illegally in a presidential election year still become a naturalized U.S. citizen? Yes, actually. Especially if the Department of Homeland Security sends a letter instructing him to request removal from the voter rolls. That happened this summer in Putnam County, Tenn., where County Administrator of Elections Debbie Steidl says an immigrant who illegally registered to vote – and then voted – in 2004 is now seeking to become a U.S. citizen. Steidl says the man gave her a form letter from the DHS instructing...

On Saturday the leftist media reported on a horrible story from their sources at the anti-military Jew-hating conservative-hating Huffington Post. The media claimed that members of the Congressional Black Caucus were called n*ggers and spat on by tea party protesters as they walked from the Longworth office building to the Rayburn office building. At least one report said that it was “a chorus†of racist hatred. Reporters from ABC, CBS, CNN, FOX News, (including Bill O’Reilly), MSNBC, etc. reported on this horrible story. Unfortunately, it was a fake. They had no evidence… Nothing. It was totally made up.In fact, a...

Sometime between 7 and 7:30, not long after I got home from work, I walked to the CVS on 22nd and M to get some bread, milk, and a SmartTrip card. I was right across the street from the CVS, and I waited for the crosswalk light to tell me to go before I crossed. I had plenty of time left, according to the countdown clock. I was more than halfway there when a black SUV made an illegal left turn and hit me head-on. I absolutely had the right of way. I yelled something like, “Are you really doing...

SALT LAKE CITY -- We're learning even more about the man accused of shooting and killing a Millard County sheriff's deputy Tuesday. In addition to numerous drug convictions, Roberto Roman's background also includes the fact that he was deported from the United States in 1998. Roman legally entered the United States in 1990, only to be deported eight years later following felony drug convictions. Since then, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says Roman has been arrested twice for illegally re-entering the United States and federally prosecuted once for the same offense. Still, Roman didn't seem to be hiding. A simple...

US military and intelligence officials are concerned that a proposed alternative plan to ramp up cross-border attacks in Pakistan and rapidly build the Afghan security forces in lieu of a comprehensive counterinsurgency strategy may take hold and lead to a catastrophic failure in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This alternative strategy, which was proposed by Vice President Joe Biden and reported in The New York Times, calls for reducing the US military mission in Afghanistan and ramping up airstrikes and covert raids against the al Qaeda in Pakistan’s tribal areas. "Rather than trying to protect the Afghan population from the Taliban, American...

The math on this isn’t exactly rocket science. The administration blew 58% of the C4C money on overhead, leaving only 42% for the dealers and the car buyers. It amounts to $1.36 of administrative cost for every dollar in subsidies granted, a terrible conversion price for even Obama’s idea of redistributionism. What if the Cash for Clunkers program had been a charity rather than a government program? The Better Business Bureau would likely have classified it as a fraud. According to their guidelines, a reputable charity should spend at least 65% of their money on their charitable programs and no...

For federal contractors, it is time to start checking whether employees are able to work legally in the United States.Beginning Tuesday, the U.S. government was requiring federal contractors to use the E-Verify system to check the immigration and citizenship status of the people they hire and assign to new federal contracts."Don't panic about this. You do have time, but the time will pass quickly, so vigilance is important," Bonnie Gibson, a partner with New York-based Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy law firm, told hundreds of contractors who dialed in to a conference call last week for an explanation of...

A combined Afghan and US strike force killed 18 Haqqani Network fighters during a raid on a "stronghold in the remote mountains" of Afghanistan's eastern province of Khost. The Haqqani commander was not named. The combined force took heavy fire from the Haqqani Network fighters as they advanced on the Haqqani Network's mountaintop base. WASHINGTON, June 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In May of this year, a Supreme Court decision severely impeded the use of identity theft charges as an immigration enforcement tool. In June, several people were arrested after a fraud scheme was uncovered at a Florida driver's license bureau. In July, a new Utah law targeting illegal aliens and document fraud will take effect. As these examples show, illegal immigration is inherently tied to document fraud and identity theft. As states continue to search for answers, it is apparent that the Federal government has not yet found a working legislative solution to deter these...

SALT LAKE CITY -- Republican Gov. Jon Huntsman said Thursday that Utah's constitutional ban on gay marriage is unclear on the issue of civil unions between gay couples, and that a court will probably have to decide if the unions are allowed here. "I don't know that that bans it specifically," Huntsman said. "I think that ultimately could be a court case and that might be adjudicated in court over time if it ever gets to that level. But that wasn't clear." The Republican governor says that while he supports traditional marriage, he also supports same-sex civil unions. "To my...
