AP ^ | 1 July 2009 | Mike Stobbe

The percentage of Americans who don't have private health insurance has hit its lowest mark in 50 years, according to two new government reports.

About 65 percent of non-elderly Americans had private insurance in 2008, down from 67 percent the year before, according to preliminary data released Wednesday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A difference of 2 percent seems to be within the margin of error of such surveys which doesn't prove much at all.

The CDC notes that the actual number of uninsured is the same as last year as well as other factors (like the economy) for the survey results.

I think the AP is spinning the survey results with the headline and lead paragraphs to promote a certain agenda *cough* nationalized health care *cough*.

The percentage of "Americans" who are foreign born is the highest in 50 years.

Come to think of it, with all the job losses a 2% decline seems like it would be better than expected, depending when the survey data was gathered.

That is, of course, assuming the 2% isn't just a statistical deviation.

Why pay for insurance? You can walk into the ER and get your whole family treated for free at the expense of the American taxpayer.

CDC: Private health care coverage at 50-year-low

The percentage of Americans who don't have private health insurance has hit its lowest mark in 50 years, according to two new government reports.

These two statements are at odds. The first states that private health care coverage is at a 50 year low, which means fewer people have coverage.

The second statement states the percentage of Americans who don't have private health insurance has hit its lowest mark in 50 years, meaning that more Americans have coverage...

Everyone gets emergency care. If you can pay for it or not, you show up at a hospital E.R. in need, and you’re taken care off.

So what we’re really talking about here, is folks who don’t have full coverage. And IMO, that 44 million or whatever, are among other things, transitional.

I suspect people drop into that status for short period of time and then leave, replaced by other short term people.

Others are illegal immigrants.

Then there’s the situation where children are seen at school clinics across the nation, getting medical care of a sort on campus.

The idea that we have 44 million people without any form of medical care is in large part a mirage, something to buttress the need for nationalized health care.

Take another look at the second statement. It states that the number of non-elderly with private insurance is down (from 67 to 65%).

I should also note this.

If we've only got 44 million people without private insurance, isn't that offset by at the minimum, 10 million illegal immigrants in our nation?  Even if their illegal alien
figures were accurate, and I don't see a chance in hell that they are, wouldn't that only leave 34 million uninsured?

We have over 300 million people in the U.S. now.  34 million is just a pittance over 10%.  So we've actually got right near 90% coverage now.

How are they coming to such dramatic conclusions about the need for nationalized health care?

The following is directed to all Freepers in general.

Some Freepers see everything through a red, white, and blue filter.  Lets prove right now how many of us do.  1% of the Freepathon total has been reached.

Do the deed.  Click those smiling faces right now.  Spread the word...

something to buttress the need for nationalized health care.

That's the basic point of the article, IMO. I also agree with your other statements. Mark Levin raises similar points and does a good job of discussing the "uninsured" number scam on his show and latest book too.

5 Million of those 45 Million people without health insurance live in households that make over $100,000 a year. Let me see if I can find the link to the census webpage where you can see the figures for yourselves.

I didn’t realize that. LOL, so they don’t need insurance. They are in effect self-insured.

Wait until our government helps them out...

http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/hlthins/hlthin07/p60no235_table6.pdf

Here’s one good link that shows information for the years 2006-2007. 9 Million people who are uninsured live in households that make 75K or more. It also shows that 22 Million people in this country who lack health insurance are NOT citizens. Show anyone throwing around that 45 Million uninsured figure this breakdown of the numbers to further explain the whole story.

I understand that. But the first statement belies that and the article heading.

Oh, now I see. You are right.

I just took a link and the article has been updated. The statement now reads:

"The percentage of Americans with private health insurance has hit its lowest mark in 50 years, according to two new government reports."

http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/cpstc/cps_table_creator.html

If you go to this part of the Census’s website...you can play around with the table generator to see numbers that matter to you.

For example go to #4 (Define Your Table)

For “Row Variables” and “First” select “Household Income”

For “Column Variables” and “First” select “Health Insurance Coverage”

Then scroll to the bottom and select “Get Table”

Its from this table that you will see at the bottom that there are 5 Million uninsured people who live in households that make $100,000 or more.

Toss out the illegal aliens not covered and what do we have, the highest ever covered?

This is off the AP yet these “journalists” complain about the Internet and bloggers not being professional. The news media is nothing like it used to be, ethics and balance being only a one part of the problem.
