  • Getting a New Mattress, What's Your Favorite Brand?

I am in the market for a new mattress, our memory foam mattress has given out, and I've ended up sleeping in a 'trench' for the past few months and it's time to replace it with a new one. At 5'10" and about 185, I'm not a monster who has smashed the bed. I'm certainly open to another memory foam type, it was very good when it was newer, but I'd like to hear from others. What are you using, how satisfied are you with your choice, and how long have you had it? Thanks to everyone who takes time...

Evil, or just Stupid? October/November 2009, Health Care was stalled in the House, and the main sticking point was government funded abortions. There were enough Dems opposed to abortion who refused to vote for the HC bill if it contained any abortion language. Representative Stupak (D) MI  introduced his amendment that prohibited any government money from the HC bill being used to fund abortions. This essentially would end all abortions, as no medical procedures outside the Government HC System can be done. No going to a doctor and paying him directly for anything. Thus, with his amendment, ALL abortions would be illegal. This...

A van crashed into a group of children waiting for their school bus Friday morning, injuring at least 10, six of them seriously, authorities said. The children, ages 10 to 14, were at a sidewalk bus stop near an apartment building when the van driver apparently lost control and ran into the group, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer said. None of their injuries was considered life-threatening. The children are students at White Oak Middle School, said Brian Edwards, a spokesman for Montgomery County Public Schools. The school system sent counselors to the hospitals and to the school...

LOWVILLE, New York (Reuters) - From the front of the Flat Rock Inn, a restaurant and campground on a gravel road, owner Gordon Yancey can see more than 100 windmills spinning, part of the electricity-generating wind farm that surrounds his property in upstate New York. The sight and sound of them burns Yancey, 47, who grew up on a nearby farm and considers Lowville, 300 miles northwest of New York City with a population of 3,500, too crowded to live in. "The noise, it's all a matter of opinion, who it is," Yancey said. "People who come from the city,...

Did anyone else hear this on the Michael Medved talk radio today? A man called in, near the end of the hour. He said he had been taken his kids to the theater, and the kids movie they were waiting to see had a very long line. Brokeback Mountain was also showing at that theater. He said he sat near the ticket booth for 35 minutes, as his kids waited in line to buy tickets for their movie. During that 35 minutes he never heard one person buy a ticket for Brokeback Mountain. However, during that 35 minutes, the “SOLD...

Indiana House of Representatives can't have clergy mention savior -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted: December 29, 2005 2:50 p.m. Eastern -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- © 2005 WorldNetDaily.com An Indian federal judge yesterday reaffirmed his decision to forbid prayers to be offered that use Jesus' name in the state House of Representatives. U.S. District Judge David Hamilton rejected a request by Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma to review the original Nov. 30 ruling. Bosma claimed the directive was too vague to enforce. Ruling on a suit brought by the Indiana Civil Liberties Union, Hamilton said that "using Christ's name or title" or referring to a "savior" amounted...
  • Fifty babies a year are alive after abortion (UK)

    The Sunday Times - Britain ^ | November 27, 2005 | Lois Rogers
A GOVERNMENT agency is launching an inquiry into doctors’ reports that up to 50 babies a year are born alive after botched National Health Service abortions. The investigation, by the Confidential Enquiry into Maternal and Child Health (CEMACH), comes amid growing unease among clinicians over a legal ambiguity that could see them being charged with infanticide................ Its guidelines say that babies aborted after more than 21 weeks and six days of gestation should have their hearts stopped by an injection of potassium chloride before being delivered. In practice, few doctors are willing or able to perform the delicate procedure.................. “They...

I just spoke to a young man at the Office of the Superintendent of the Flight 93 National Memorial. (814) 443-4557. There have been several threads here at FR regarding the proposed Islam Crescent at the memorial. Like the rest of you, I am appalled that such a symbol would even be considered. I decided to do something about it. Sunday evening I faxed my objection to them in writing. It was a one page fax, and was a page printed from FR which showed the Crescent. Beside the picture I wrote my name, phone etc, and voiced my objections....
  • Listen to the Tom Tancredo Tape About Bombing Mecca

There has been much speculation about what Tom Tancredo said on the now famous interview last Friday on WFLA-AM in Orlando, Fla. From what I am reading here on FR, much of that speculation is wrong. Tancredo was, in fact, suggesting that we consider (not implement, just consider implementing) a strategy similar to the strategy that Reagan used to win the Cold War. Listen for yourself. HERE If you think Tancredo is a nut case, and you don't want to change your thinking, move along, this clip isn't for you. Just post your thoughts without listening.

I came across this article (dated last December) while looking around the web. It's a very short, but moving story of what can only be described as the love America (and especially those tough, gruff Marines) have for the Iraqi's. And one very brave little Iraqi girl. I thought others would enjoy it also. Grab a Kleenex. Just wanted to write to you and tell you another story about an experience we had over here.   As you know, I asked for toys for the Iraqi children over here and several people (Americans that support us) sent them over by...

    THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH ^ | Friday, October 01, 2004 | Robert Vitale
After nine months of intense voter-registration efforts focused on Franklin County, the number of people signed up to cast ballots in the Nov. 2 election has surpassed U.S. Census estimates of those eligible. There are about 815,000 Franklin County residents older than 18, according to the most recent census estimates, for 2003. As of yesterday, Franklin County Board of Elections officials counted more than 817,000 registered voters, and forms are still coming in at the rate of 8,000 per day as Monday’s registration deadline approaches. One county official in Ohio called the Franklin County figures "bizarre." One state official called...
