Does anyone recall an accord that states that every nation importing oil from opec, the bulk of which comes from the middle east, must allow a certain number of muslim immigrants into their nation. I first read of this maybe 8 to 10 years ago. I do not know if it was true. That is why I am seeking it now, to verify.

The city of Tulsa, Oklahoma, punished one of its own veteran police commanders for his refusal to attend a Muslim religious service being held at a mosque he said practiced radical Islamic dogma, according to court records. He also "dared" to refuse to order his officers to visit a mosque he alleges has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Our great nation was formed by people of diverse nationalities, primarily Europeans with differing religious identities. While some mistrust existed, occasionally igniting localized conflicts, the religions of these many cultures did not teach and engage in the extermination of people of differing faiths. The world is now facing such a religion of extreme intolerance. It has a toehold in the USA and most other western nations, but cannot be allowed to remain because a religion of extreme intolerance teachings that dictates the elimination by death of nonbelievers does not, nor ever will be compatible with our historical embrace of religious...

President Barack Obama was surprisingly given the Nobel Peace Prize "primarily for his work on and commitment to nuclear disarmament," according to Agot Valle, a Norwegian politician who served on the award committee. Valle told the Wall Street Journal that the stewards of the prize wanted to "support" Obama's goal, as expressed recently at the U.N., "of a world without nuclear weapons." It's tough to think of a goal more widely espoused than the dream of an H-bomb-free planet. President Ronald Reagan and activist Jane Fonda, political opposites, came together on this one — in his second term, Reagan stunned...
  • Ending death penalty could save US millions: study

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Even when executions are not carried out, the death penalty costs US states hundreds of millions of dollars a year, depleting budgets in the midst of economic crisis, a study released Tuesday found. "It is doubtful in today's economic climate that any legislature would introduce the death penalty if faced with the reality that each execution would cost taxpayers 25 million dollars, or that the state might spend more than 100 million dollars over several years and produce few or no executions," argued Richard Dieter, director of the Death Penalty Information Center and the report's author. "Surely...
  • 50 million new patients? More primary docs a must

BOSTON – When Dr. Robert Flaherty launched a private practice in 2001, he soon found himself cramming in as many patients as possible to make ends meet, leaving little time to discuss with them the steps they could take to prevent future health troubles. "I constantly felt that conflict of going faster than I should," said Flaherty, 40, of Mashpee, who gave up his practice after four years for a hospital post. "Everyone knows if you want to make a decent living, become a specialist; if you want to be banging your head, go into primary care." Among the many...

America's criminal justice system has deteriorated to the point that it is a national disgrace. Its irregularities and inequities cut against the notion that we are a society founded on fundamental fairness. Our failure to address this problem has caused the nation's prisons to burst their seams with massive overcrowding, even as our neighborhoods have become more dangerous. We are wasting billions of dollars and diminishing millions of lives.

SANTA ANA – The Santa Ana City Jail, which receives the most federal revenue of any city jail in the Greater Los Angeles area for housing immigration detainees – is planning to boost its revenue by housing additional detainees and negotiating a rate increase. Unfilled job vacancies, budget cuts and the lack of new revenue have motivated the Santa Ana Police Department to increase its revenue through immigration detention. The department plans to add 32 additional beds to bring its population capacity to 512 beds by May, said Santa Ana Police Chief Paul Walters.

AMBER ALERT LAS VEGAS, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Las Vegas police say they are looking for the grandfather of a missing boy who was presumed kidnapped in a case that apparently involves drug trafficking. Police Friday said Clemens Tinnemeyer was a "significant person of interest" in the abduction of 6-year-old Cole Puffinberger, and was believed to be involved in drug dealing when he was last seen in May. Tinnemeyer last had contact with his family in August. He was reported missing last month and was last seen driving a white 2004 Dodge pickup with Mississippi license plate KA6251. The Las...

The subject may be trivialized by some, but the effect of air pollution originating from China and Eastern Asia has dire consequences for Americans and our economy. I am located in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California. A couple weeks ago I noticed something that alerted me to a rapid change in our skies. First the night skies became the clearest they had been in many years. This week the daytime skies cleared too giving us a summertime view of the high Sierra Mountains that had been noticeably absent for over a decade. Local news had reported on this...

Just where is all that global warming pollution coming from? The Northeast pumps out an awful lot of carbon dioxide, but the Southeast, Midwest and Southern California are also responsible for voluminous pollution that billows out each day. The precise sources of carbon dioxide have now been mapped, with 100-times more detail than was previously available, by Vulcan project researchers at Purdue University. The high-resolution, interactive maps combines emissions data from power plants, factories and vehicles, and produces maps and movies that compare the relative contribution of pollution from various parts of the country on an hourly basis. One of...

Just thinking "out loud". So, when something troubles me, I just try to identify what the trouble is, then try to think it through. I was greatly disappointed with the History Channel "Universe" series segment last week that was to discuss what was before the "Big Bang". The program never really discussed this. Nonetheless, since I totally discount that an absolute absence of everything can somehow create anything, I still adhere to God for all. Fortunately, my discouragement with the program got me to regurgitate a thought. Think of it a God, Darwin and the prototypes. I know you have...

The Yahoo link is a video link. I'm posting it to stress a point about the English language. While there have been many discussions about making English the official language of the USA, I seldom involve myself with the politics of the proposal. Instead, I have always maintained English is the worldwide language of commerce. This video clip supports my position. Not requiring English proficiency, especially in the USA, almost certainly assures certain people will be imprisoned in the lower class.

WASHINGTON - Market speculation on energy prices may have added as much as 10 percent to crude oil costs and the peak may be yet to come, a top Energy Department official said Tuesday. Guy Caruso, head of the department's Energy Information Administration, told a Senate hearing that supply and demand would suggest a price of about $90 a barrel. Prices fluctuated around $102 a barrel Tuesday — although futures prices later dropped below $100 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange — on word that the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries are likely to keep production as is...

Republican presidential front-runner John McCain on Monday retracted his earlier statement he would lose the November election if he did not convince Americans they were winning the war in Iraq. "I don't mean that I'll, quote, lose," McCain told reporters on his campaign bus. "I mean that it's an important issue in the judgment of the American voters." "It's not often I retract a comment," said the likely Republican nominee. McCain, a staunch supporter of the Iraq war, said earlier in the day he would lose the election if he did not convince the American public the U.S. military was...

Heads up! Tomorrow night (February 26, 2008 at 9:00 PM), the History Channel will air a new segment of their Universe series that could be very interesting. It will try to address what was before the Big Bang. This is a subject I don't see anyway of discussing without raising religious beliefs.

AMMAN, JORDAN — Even as it enriches Arab rulers, the recent oil-price boom is helping to fuel an extraordinary rise in the cost of food and other basic goods that is squeezing this region's middle class and setting off strikes, demonstrations and occasional riots from Morocco to the Persian Gulf. Here in Jordan, the cost of maintaining fuel subsidies amid the surge in prices forced the government to remove almost all the subsidies this month, sending the price of some fuels up 76 percent overnight. In a devastating domino effect, the cost of basic foods like eggs, potatoes and cucumbers...
