McCain retracts comment he could lose on Iraq
Yahoo! News! (Reuters) ^ | February 25, 2008 | Andy Sullivan

Republican presidential front-runner John McCain on Monday retracted his earlier statement he would lose the November election if he did not convince Americans they were winning the war in Iraq.

"I don't mean that I'll, quote, lose," McCain told reporters on his campaign bus. "I mean that it's an important issue in the judgment of the American voters."

"It's not often I retract a comment," said the likely Republican nominee.

McCain, a staunch supporter of the Iraq war, said earlier in the day he would lose the election if he did not convince the American public the U.S. military was succeeding in Iraq.

Most Americans now say the 2003 invasion of Iraq was a bad idea and disapprove of the way President George W. Bush has waged it.

"It's not often I retract a comment," said the likely Republican nominee.

Moving beyond the war, my concern is another McCain comment, "As president, I will secure the border."

He is an active US Senator now. Why isn't he introducing legislation and pushing right now that starts strengthening our border security and addresses the illegal aliens already here? If he is serious about winning the General Election, it was opposition to illegal immigration that united the majority of Americans of most all political persuasions last summer.

McAmnesty’s heart is not in this.

He will find some sort of reason not to implement a PHYSICAL fence. He may try to implement a virtual fence and pretend that is enough. Either that, or some other excuse such as the Democrats won’t let me build the fence.

He will also grant an Amnesty, count on it.

He is the worst thing to happen to the GOP since I have been alive and I have voted GOP since 1978.

Dark days ahead for the GOP no matter what happens, no matter who is President.

“As president, I will secure the border.”
:::::
This is same liberal who drafted the McCain-Kennedy Amnesty Bill.

This is like chastity and Bill Clinton -— we have heard it all before.

Most Americans now say the 2003 invasion of Iraq was a bad idea and disapprove of the way President George W. Bush has waged it.

So, is this statement based upon a recent poll taken in light of the huge gains that have been made in Iraq, both militarily and politically? What would the mood of the American people be if this war would now be considered a success?

""It's not often I retract a comment," said the likely Republican nominee."

He better start "retracting" YEARS of stupid RINO things he's said and done.

Oh that's right - he doesn't need to because he's a "conservative" now. (At least that's what Bob Dole and a bunch of other folks said.)

Oh now now, you're not suppose to catch that.

You're suppose to grin, bear it and move one.

Fact is McC will not make any real effort to secure our borders as a senator or a POTUS.

That is not the question, most Americans want to know how much longer and when will it be over. If you say we have been successful, the next statement is fine bring the troops home. Catch 22! Last poll I saw was 65% want out!

Understandable in light of the constant barrage of lies from the Libs and the Lame Stream Media.

the whole point is to elect leaders who do what they feel is best for the national interest, not follow what the polls say or single issue interest groups want

This point needs to be made over to the folks that are outraged that people like me refuse to vote for this amnesty pimp.

He could shore up his base by simply acting NOW on this critical issue as a powerful US Senator and the author of that treasonous amnesty bill.

The fact that he will not budge on this betrays his true intentions. On the subject of defending our borders and culture John McCain is a damn liar.

Regards

I thought the point was to elect leaders who will uphold and defend the Constitution, not leaders who decide what is best for the rest of the nation based on their feelings.

Mckennedy? Look, Mckennedy is inviting me to take a car ride.....and look out there, a bridge. It is for certain this car will not float. Mc just told me, this car is a boat.
