Thanks for your posts.
Actually, the main source of criticism that I wanted to counter was the article "Pope had critics, too" http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1379434/posts.
Obviously, you won't find many anti-Catholic articles here on FreeRepublic, since it is Conservative and has a pro-religious attitude. But I think, posting Liberal articles here is really valuable, as long as they provide some sensible arguments that are worthy to discuss with.
And another story is how the readers of FreeRepublic respond. I've seen somewhere an article about Clinton's and Bush's opinion about the Pope. And numerous comments were something like "Clinton = dumb ass" and so on. This questions some poeple's intelligence and abilities to dialog.
And although my personal views are definitely right-wing and by some means conservative (although the meanings of these words are different here in Europe), I still dislike G.W.Bush for many things he did. And if he claims to be a believer and to base all his decisions on God's values, how can he allow death penalty or going on an offensive war? This seems to me like hypocrisy. But that's a story for another talk.
