I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. My Dad was a WWII veteran, and I lost him 5 years ago. It is indeed a huge loss to lose a veteran of "The Greatest Generation." My prayers and truest heartfelt sympathy is with you, Hunstville. God bless you, and your entire family.

Thank you so much for posting, Mike. I am extremely interested in all updates out of Ukraine.

This whole topic pushes my hot button like you guys can't even believe. My husband and I are right in the middle of adopting out of Ukraine now. And I'm purposely learning Ukrainian instead of Russian, even though everyone in Ukraine speaks both -- the reason being that during Soviet rule, the Ukrainians were thrown in prison by the Russians for the "crime" of speaking their native tongue. Lovely, huh? They HAD to speak Russian or nothing at all. Today, there is such bitterness left over from the decades of oppressive Russian rule that there are many older Ukranians who refuse to speak Russian. Thus, out of respect for all Ukrainians, and our daughter-to-be in particular, I want to stand in solidarity with them, and speak their native tongue. NOT the tongue of the oppressor. (This is not to say that I think the Russian people are to blame. Not at all. I place the blame squarely on corrupt elements in the Russian governemnt.)

Then this Ukrainian election happens, and it's just sickening to see that "element" rearing its ugly head again trying to exert its stranglehold over these people again.

And to thicken the plot in our Ukrainian adoption case as it pertains to the news -- get this -- our case worker is RUSSIAN. So picture this.... Thanksgiving Day I'm on the phone with him and he's just gotten back from Russia where I'm trying to get the latest update and he asks me if I watch the news, saying "there's a revolution in Ukraine!" (don't you love it? "a revolution") (uhh, I think they call it, people recognizing fraud when they see it and not standing for it, buddro) I quickly shot back, "Yeah, I watch the news. The election was totally fraudulent. The Kremlin committed fraud and the Ukrainian candidate who really won the election was cheated out of victory." Well, at that, my case worker laughed a KGB type laugh and I thought (uh-oh) and he said,(insert your best Russian accent) "Well, this is a matter of opinion." I said, "Well, our government isn't going to recognize the Ukrainian election or government as legitmate with this guy in there."
My Russian case worker says, "Ukraine is split. The Eastern half wants the Russian choice, the Western half wants the European- American choice."

At that assessment, I thought to myself, What the "H" are you talking about, the Western half wants "the 'American' choice? The only choice the Americans want for Ukraine is the choice that represents the WILL OF THE UKRAINIAN PEOPLE, YOU KNUCKLEHEAD!!! Then he said "The one [already elected] is Putin's choice."

Yeah...he actually says "he's Putin's choice."

I'm thinking (and it's a good thing I didn't think to say this till AFTER I got off the phone or I might say something that would jeopardize my chances of ever getting our daughter) but after I hung up, I was so mad, all I wanted to do was shout at my Russian case worker:

"Who the heck gives a RIP who PUTIN wants to be the President of Ukraine???? What about the FALL OF THE SOVIET UNION DON'T YOU GUYS GET??????

After reading that headline and listening to so much of the post-election MSM I'm starting to be reminded of a line from a Woody Allen film. Woody is listening to a babbling idiot go on and on, and finally he gets up off his chair and says to the woman: "Yes, well, uh, I'd love to continue this conversation, but -- I'm due back on planet earth."

I'm totally with you on this, AmericaUnited. I cringe when I hear the news report of these terrorists "laying down their arms" remembering back to the last war when these so-called "surrendering" lying thugs suddenly came up shooting and our soldiers were killed. I want NO prisoners. I am encouraged at the news this morning on Fox that 30 of the leadership has been killed. Now that news makes me go ahhhhhhhh.

I'd love to see all this come out and then sit back and watch how the Euro-press handles it.

As I have read down through these comments my heart is breaking at the absolute cruelty in all of your remarks over something this woman has no control over, and that is her appearance. It is frightening to me to think that you are all thinking these kinds of remarks are worthy of posting and worse -- that your posts are funny. They aren't funny. They are treacherous. It would be one thing to criticize Helen Thomas for things she has said or done -- things she had control over, things that were a matter of personal choice on her part. But to slay this woman for her appearance seems to me cruel beyond belief. She can't HELP how she was born.

I just called both my Senators offices. My husband is going to email them. I'm from Virginia, and when I called Senator Warner's office the girl first had to put me on hold, then back on the phone said, "Is this about Senator Specter?" and I said "You better believe it." She laughed and said, "Well, I'll put you on the opposed list, I've got a lot of calls to answer" and she was GONE. I think Arlen is going down, down, down for the third time, I don't care how much back peddling he tries to do, or how many press releases he puts out now trying to cya. Forget it. We need to stick together on this, and call our state Senators AS WELL as Frist and keep the heat on to give our Senators confidence that we've got their backs and let them know we aren't taking no for an answer. And Arlen has got to go -- seniority or no seniority. This is a matter of principle. And that's what I told my other Senator -- Former Governor George Allen. Go FReepers! I'm off now to call Frist. Don't woos out on us Frist!

I think you guys are overreacting. New Mexico hasn't been called because the Secretary of State closed the office and went home for the night to get some sleep. This was before all the votes came in from the northern part of the state. The office closed knowing the votes hadn't all arrived and been counted. At least that's what they said. Brit Hume and his panel looked at each other dumbfounded like "What are they thinking?" (in New Mexico) They had nothing to report, so without all the votes in and with the margin closing, they didn't call it.

They were the first network to call Ohio for Dubya and I was really impressed with that when all the rest of the Kerry kissers weren't giving the President a single electoral vote out of the Buckeye state. I think Fox has done a great job overall.
