Raised and homeschooled on a farm near Dexter, Iowa, Brenna Findley, 37, attended Drake University and the University of Chicago Law School. Upon graduation, Findley worked as an attorney in private practice at a national law firm in its Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. offices. She later served as Chief of Staff and Counsel to Congressman Steve King, R-Kiron. Returning to private practice with Whitaker Hagenow GBMG in Des Moines, she was her party’s nominee for attorney general in 2010. She is currently serving as Counsel to Governor Terry Branstad of Iowa. How did you first become involved in law...

Texas Senator Ted Cruz might only be in the first year of his first term in U.S. Senate, but he is already igniting the imaginations of Iowa Republicans who view him as strong presidential candidate in 2016 should he choose to run. Cruz was in Des Moines on Friday to address the Iowa Renewal Project, an annual weekend gathering of Iowa pastors and religious leaders. Cruz also attended a picnic fundraiser for the Republican Party of Iowa, and met with Republican activists and operatives during his first foray into Iowa. Cruz downplayed the significance of his trip to Iowa in...

Democrat Tom Miller has served 28 years as Iowa attorney general. Re-elected by wide margins, he didn't even have an opponent in 2006. This year is different. An aggressive, energetic and well-financed campaign by Republican challenger Brenna Findley, a former aide to western Iowa's U.S. Rep. Steve King, has turned the race into what is now considered a toss-up. Stefan Schmidt, a political science professor at Iowa State University, said he would have scoffed if someone told him in January that Miller was in political trouble. “I would have started laughing and said, ‘Are you on crack?'” Schmidt said. But...

Iowans are evenly split on whether to retain three Iowa Supreme Court justices with “no” voters exhibiting more intensity, according to a poll released Oct. 25. A recent poll conducted by NRG Research Group for Shaw & Company Research indicates also found the race for attorney general to be tight. The poll of 309 registered voters found 36 percent saying they will vote to re-elect the justices and 35 percent saying they will not. “These numbers track reasonably well with opposition to the Iowa Court’s decision to strike down legislation banning gay marriage,” pollster Daron Shaw of Shaw & Company...

Iowa State Attorney General incumbent Democrat Tom Miller has decided on the tactic of trying to associate his Republican opponent Brenda Findley with Rep. Steve King instead of trying to keep the debate about the issues. We’ve seen this a lot lately when Democrats can’t talk about their records of big government. Normally I would ignore stuff like this, but I liked her answer and how she hit him right back on substance.

Republican attorney general candidate Brenna Findley has been one of the hardest-working challengers in Iowa this year. For months, she's been campaigning across the state, and she's raised lots of money, helped by her close ties to Representative Steve King and an enthusiastic booster in Terry Branstad. Findley launched her introductory television commercial this week and has had a radio ad running since mid-September. In contrast, 28-year Democratic incumbent Tom Miller has been mostly invisible on the campaign trail. Findley's introductory tv and radio ads are after the jump, along with some other recent news from the attorney general's race....

Brenna Findley, candidate for Iowa Attorney General, will have some powerful backup as she shares her vision for how to get Iowa back on track. Ken Cuccinelli, Virginia's Attorney General, will be campaigning in Iowa on Monday, October 4, to elect fellow Republican Brenna Findley. AG Cuccinelli became nationally known when he was the first Attorney General to file suit against the unconstitutional mandate by Congress that would force Americans to buy government approved health insurance or face IRS penalty. Other states have also filed suit and, Cuccinelli continues to lead the way in the fight to protect the rights...

Des Moines, IA- Iowa Attorney General Nominee Brenna Findley today said she is glad to accept the endorsement of former Vice Presidential nominee and Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin. Palin endorsed Findley on Facebook today on the anniversary of women's suffrage, calling Findley a bold, sharp, selfless woman who will respect the Constitution. Palin said, "We desperately need these conservative leaders who won't kowtow to the Obama administration's big government overreach into our states, small businesses, families, and individual lives." Findley said, "I am excited to be endorsed by Governor Sarah Palin, who shares a passion for protecting our Constitution....

Brenna Findley was unopposed in her quest to become the Republican candidate to run against longtime Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller, a Democrat. She officially moved ahead to the November ballot after the Tuesday GOP primary, and was energized when I spoke to her in The Journal offices. Findley was widely touted as a great attorney general candidate by Terry Branstad in the weeks before he won the gubernatorial candidate, and that sort of enthusiasm among Republicans seems broad. One benchmark? She has nearly $150K in fundraising for a downticket position, which Findley said is a key metric to show...
