A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for nearly 900 households in parts of Pittsburgh’s West End neighborhoods after a water main broke on Mount Washington Saturday afternoon. The boil water and flush advisory applies to portions of Ridgemont, Westwood and Elliott, according to the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority. Many residents in the area had no water service or experienced low water pressure due to the break, which occurred around 3:30 p.m. along a 16-inch water main on Virginia Avenue at Kearsarge Street, the PWSA said. PWSA officials said the break was isolated and normal water service was...

Women’s rugby referees in England are quitting their jobs over the inclusion of the male athletes, according to a report in The Sunday Times this weekend. “Being forced to prioritize hurt feelings over broken bones exposes me to personal litigation from female players who have been damaged by players who are biologically male. This is driving female players and referees out of the game,” one referee told the British paper under the condition of anonymity.

Many matters are clear with landlords and tenants, but I've got a grey area here. If a tenant breaks a lease and requests to leave before the 12 months is up, what do they lose? If a landlord at move-in made them pay first month, last month, and security deposit, all about $1,000 each. What does a landlord have to return if they only stayed six months? What would be the purpose of taking these amounts if tenant could just walk and know they can get some of it back? Can a landlord deduct turn-over costs ? Like paying an...

It finally happened. The feds forced an Apple iPhone X owner to unlock their device with their face. A child abuse investigation unearthed by Forbes includes the first known case in which law enforcement used Apple Face ID facial recognition technology to open a suspect's iPhone. That's by any police agency anywhere in the world, not just in America. It happened on August 10, when the FBI searched the house of 28-year-old Grant Michalski, a Columbus, Ohio, resident who would later that month be charged with receiving and possessing child pornography. With a search warrant in hand, a federal investigator...

Then a few days later, the family received a $132,000 claim from the city of Overland Park’s insurance company, saying that the piece had been damaged beyond repair. “No one would ever to expect that to come into a place that kids are invited and have to worry about a $132,000 dollar piece of art falling on their child,” Goodman said. “Because he didn’t maliciously break that. It fell on him. It was not secure, it was not safe -- at all.

Her whole life is a break Earlier this week, you probably saw a story about Chelsea Clinton receiving a lifetime achievement award. The Hill ran it with some dubious language, and many people missed the fact that it was an award from “Lifetime” the television network. Failing to capitalize the “L” led to a firestorm about privilege, and how a woman who has achieved virtually nothing could be granted and award for her non-existent achievements. Carefull reading spared some of us who are inclined to agree with that sentiment.

The spirit of Spring Break is alive and well on the freeways of Miami. Bizarre footage has emerged showing a young woman twerking on top a moving car as it speeds off into the sunset. The scantily-clad woman seems completely unfazed by the passing cars or the fact that she's only a slip away from a potentially deadly fall onto the MacArthur Causeway.

The state Senate has already endorsed the measure. Legislators in the House could consider it as soon as Tuesday. Companies that provide the internet service can apply for repayments of some, or all of sales taxes on a project. The state Board of Economic Development decides the amount of the refund.

On the 11th daughter Mary headed out with me all set for the day. I made a latrine run, got back in bed, fell asleep, and at some point my oxygen cannula detached.Mary started getting weird phone calls about mid afternoon, came home and I was having big time problems. At any rate, no evident brain damage (it never has been), but I feel pressure washed, too many drugs, too many needles, too much hospital food (I am eating salty stuff to catch up as I write)I'm gonna hang in the background for a few, but I'm home.

MILWAUKEE, WI — The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that it is not a violation of constitutional rights if police break down a citizen’s door, search the home, and confiscate firearms, so long that they believe it is in the citizen’s best interest. A Doctor’s Concern The lawsuit stems back to an incident that occurred on May 22, 2011. A psychiatrist, Dr. Michelle Bentle, phoned police to report that a patient had expressed a suicidal thought during an outpatient appointment; the woman had received some bad news and privately expressed grief during a difficult appointment. At approximately...

Texas Republican Rep. Lamar Smith reacted harshly to a new report detailing the crimes committed by 36,007 criminal immigrants that Immigration and Customs Enforcement released last year. “This would be considered the worst prison break in American history, except it was sanctioned by the President and perpetrated by our own immigration officials. These criminal immigrants should have been deported to ensure that they could never commit crimes on U.S. soil. But instead, ICE officials chose not to detain them and instead released them back onto American streets,” Smith said in a statement Monday.

Missouri senators passed legislation Wednesday offering up to $1.7 billion of incentives over two decades for Boeing to assemble a commercial airplane in St. Louis. The Senate's 23-8 vote in a special session sends the measure to the House with just a few days remaining before what Gov. Jay Nixon has said is a Tuesday deadline to submit a proposal to Boeing. (snip) Some of the senators who voted against the plan questioned the wisdom of tailoring tax breaks for a specific company instead of cutting taxes for all businesses or individuals. Nixon vetoed a broad-based income tax cut earlier...

React To Contact, Break Contact and Insurgent Operational Planning I talked about Battle Drills awhile back. Recently Max Velocity talked about Reacting to Contact. We label the steps differently but basically do the same thing. I will get into it a bit but do not feel the need to write it from memory or get fancy paraphrasing FM 7-8. Either you know how to do it and I'm wasting my time or you don't and me writing about it for a couple paragraphs will not fix the problem so I'm wasting my time. For those without an Infantry or Special...
