Occasionally I write about myself in this space when knowing a little about my biases or background is helpful in understanding how I've reached a conclusion. But does anybody really want to hear all about how arduous the job is --- from a woman calling me a "prissy little queen" via email for daring to insult Clay Aiken, to network execs thinking I was overly harsh or unfair? Didn't think so. Yet that's exactly what's happening in the media world, as talk personalities such as Howard Stern and Bill O'Reilly increasingly segue from host to vein-opener, making their particular platforms...

A new Gallup Poll says George W. Bush is the most polarizing President in the history of its surveys on the subject. It's hard to believe that the good ol' Texas guy is more divisive than, say, Richard Nixon or Bill Clinton, but apparently he is. Gallup says 91% of Republicans like the President, but just 17% of the Democrats do. In a bad news situation for Mr. Bush, Gallup also sees independent voters shifting away from the Chief Executive. What's in play here, I believe, is the increasing polarization of the country, not just the policies of President Bush....

The rule of law--it's what America is based on. <p>ASHEVILLE - Talk radio took a hit Friday in Asheville, as WISE/AM-1310 made a dramatic format change, dropping all of its chat and call-in programs and switching to an all-sports lineup, the first of its kind in this region. The change leaves Asheville with just one talk-show radio station, WWNC/AM- 570, which was competing with WISE for the same listening audience. In the end, there just weren't enough advertising dollars to support two talk-radio stations in town, said Bruce Law, general manager of Saga Communications, the station that operates and is buying WISE.</p>
