28-year-old surfer Liam Mahoney was arrested on the beach in Belmar, New Jersey on Tuesday, August 20th and was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice. Videos of the arrest went viral and there was massive public outcry about “beach badge” requirements for surfers at Belmar’s beaches. Beach badges are required for admission to Belmar’s beaches.
