Excellent information from "inside the courtroom" offers a more educated view than Maureen Dowd's snarky opinion.

At the very least, the administration has wasted a huge amount of the nation’s time. At worst, Obama is in fact not eligible to be President. Would that be uncomfortable? Would it be inconvenient? Would it be problematic? Of course. But this nation has survived many traumatic events in its past and would survive this. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land- and it must be upheld.

FORT MEADE, Md. — Even if Lt. Col. Terrance Lakin can prove that the president isn’t an American citizen, the 17-year soldier will still be going to jail. Lakin, an Army physician who refused deployment to Afghanistan earlier this year because he believes Barack Obama cannot legally be president, will face up to 18 months in prison and dismissal from the service after pleading guilty Tuesday to charges of refusing his immediate commanders’ orders during his protest of the president.

The Army lieutenant colonel who refused to deploy to Afghanistan because he won't accept orders from President Obama, whom he considers unqualified to be commander in chief, has pleaded guilty to one charge against him. Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin pleaded guilty Tuesday to not reporting to Fort Campbell, Ky., for his required deployment to Afghanistan, NBC News reported. Lakin, a doctor and 17-year soldier, believes Obama wasn't born in the United States, and therefore does not meet the constitutional requirements to be president.

His new lawyer -- who has not been working with us -- convinced Terry that by changing his strategy and abandoning any argument about Obama's eligibility, he would be able to plead for mercy tomorrow when he is sentenced. Terry was able today, and will be able tomorrow, to explain that he was motivated by his concerns about eligibility, but of course by pleading guilty he abandons any opportunity to appeal, and thus any chance that the appellate courts would reverse Judge Lind's rulings.
