BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities say a child accidentally locked himself inside a gun safe at a farm supply store in West Virginia. Green Valley Volunteer Fire Department Chief David Thompson told news outlets that the 8-year-old boy locked himself in at the Rural King store inside the Mercer Mall in Bluefield on Saturday afternoon.

The Supreme Court declined to take up two Second Amendment cases on Monday, which challenged laws banning assault weapons and open-carry in Maryland and Florida. Both cases were denied review without comment from the justices, which left the lower court rulings in place. In the Florida challenge, the state Supreme Court upheld Florida’s ban on open carry finding the Second Amendment doesn’t guarantee a right to open carry.

A man who brandished a gun inside a busy Costco Wholesale store Sunday in Lenexa [Kansas] was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer who was there shopping. Police responded shortly after 11 a.m. to the store. When officers arrived, they found that the shooting was over. The Lenexa, Kansas police department confirmed to KCTV5 today that they are investigating a shooting at a local Costco involving an off-duty police officer and an armed man. On Sunday afternoon, police received emergency calls that a man was threatening the store, pointing a gun at customers.
