Israel has hinted it is plotting airstrikes to topple the Iranian regime as it seeks retaliation for its missile attack earlier this month.
Tel Aviv has been narrowing down its targets to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its volunteer paramilitary force as it consults the US on its response, The Times has reported.
Although it is unlikely one round of missile strikes would topple the Iranian regime, it has been suggested by a western official the strength of the attack could encourage opposition from within.
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video statement addressed to the Iranian people: 'Don't let a small group of fanatic theocrats crush your hopes and your dreams … The people of Iran should know: Israel stands with you.'
'When Iran is finally free — and that moment will come a lot sooner than people think — everything will be different.'
The declaration was made in English just a few days before Iran launched 200 missiles into Israel on October 1.
Netanyahu is hoping any future airstrikes will help weaken the two pillars of Iran's Islamic regime - the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Basij paramilitary force.
While the IRGC is an elite military force, the Basij is a loyalist militia usually made up of foot soldiers.
It comes as Israel warned that Iran will 'not know what's hit them' when the country retaliates.
Israel's defence minister Yoav Gallant said in a video issued by his office: 'Whoever attacks us will be hurt and will pay a price.
'Our attack will be deadly, precise and above all surprising, they will not understand what happened and how it happened, they will see the results.'

Catch them flat footed... no hesitation is going to work
Gonna be awesome.
Wish they didn’t telegraph this move, do it without them knowing it’s coming
Taking out these jackasses would be a humanitarian event.
I don't disagree. But now, they must hide and take extraordinary measures to communicate. Somewhere along the line is someone with a grudge who is going to leak their hiding location. And then it's HAMMER TIME!
Israel should take out all the command of the secret police. Then the people will do the rest.
Well I hope you’re right. Wish Israel would soon be able to live in peace
Yeah me too but maybe telegraphing is meant to sow fear and lead them into making rash mistakes. No one saw the pager attack coming obviously so let’s see what happens.

I’ll let them take care of their own business, they seem to know what they are doing. Things can be learned from stirring up an ant bed.
“Sow fear”
So they will be dropping pigs on them also? :-)
I concur with that.
How can the IDF possibly be more than a bad day for a country the size and location of Iran?
90,000,000 people.
They are not Arab....same big talk though.
Roughly twice the size of Texas.
Roughly 1,000 miles away.
Must cross some combination of Jordan, Syria, Iraq or Arabia....
An attack on the oil fields would be an ecological and PR disaster and actually hurt the world economy....
Ports? Whose ships will also be sunk? Russia? China?
Best bet I can come up with is take the head off the Revolutionary Guard and Muslim leadership (hiding in mosques?) and enable the Iranian Army to coup successfully if not totally co-oped by Islamic radicals....which they are....
Other thoughts?
I suspect a careful pruning of Iranian leadership is in order.
They’ll need some Shabbos Goys to get that done. :)

A ship or submarine could sail quite close to Iran.
Israel might buy a foreign ship so it can’t be physically traced to Israel.
:-)
There must be multiple hardened underground bunkers for the Iranian leaders. Multiple - but not an infinite number.
When the Israelis locate the right bunkers - and they probably will - goodbye Iranian leaders. It is possible there are already gifts in the bunkers awaiting the arrival of the Iranian leaders.
