<p>BAGHDAD -- Saddam Hussein's faithful information minister, Mohammed Said Sahhaf, whose outrageous proclamations and denial of the obvious Iraqi setbacks during the war earned him an international following of sorts, is reported to be trying to strike a deal with the Americans that would allow him to go into exile in Egypt.</p>

<p>Iraq's former information minister is set to cement the cult status he won during the recent military conflict by featuring on a dance track due to be released in Britain this month.</p> <p>Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf became known as "Comical Ali" by appearing each day -- with trademark beret and smile -- to emphatically deny events that viewers could see unfolding on their televisions.</p>

<p>President Bush called him ''my man'' and told NBC's Tom Brokaw recently that he used to pop out of meetings just to watch his ''unbelievable'' press briefings on TV.</p> <p>The president has company as a fan of the reality-defying proclamations by now-missing Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, 63, Saddam Hussein's information minister. The beret-topped ''disinformation minister,'' dubbed ''Baghdad Bob'' and ''Comical Ali,'' has become a pop-culture hit and inspired a cottage industry online.</p>

The moment when Saddam Hussein's faithful minister of information, Mohammad Said Sahhaf, finally accepted that the game was up is revealed today by The Telegraph. In the dying days of the regime the indefatigable minister, dubbed "Comical Ali", had haunted a radio studio in Baghdad, urging engineers to carry on pumping out Saddam's propaganda.
