The moment when Saddam Hussein's faithful minister of information, Mohammad Said Sahhaf, finally accepted that the game was up is revealed today by The Telegraph. In the dying days of the regime the indefatigable minister, dubbed "Comical Ali", had haunted a radio studio in Baghdad, urging engineers to carry on pumping out Saddam's propaganda. Even after the statue of Saddam was toppled on April 9, Mr Sahhaf refused to accept that Saddam's era was over. But in the early hours of April 10, with the sound of battle raging ever closer to the studio, in the al-Adhamiyah district, even Mr...

ICONOCLAST DAILY NOTEBOOK.... I am the One Arresting THEM: Baghdad Bob's Surrender... < May 3, 2003: A couple of weeks ago, readers of this blog section were treated to exclusive coverage of the White House Easter Egg Roll through an interview with Iraqi Information Minister Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf (also known as Baghdad Bob or Comical Ali), who reported live from the South Lawn about the eggs and bunnies and kids that weren't there. To my delight, the reader response to this column was overwhelming, and many of you took the time to email me your best wishes for Baghdad Bob...

Comical brother On the mike ... Comical Ali spouts more outrageous Baghdad baloney IRAQ?S barmy information minister Comical Ali is launching an assault on the charts ? with a dance track. The crackpot?s ridiculous rants about the Gulf war ? such as ?There is no presence of American infidels in Baghdad? when US troops were easily seen just a few hundred yards away ? are to be featured on a new record. Producers say it will sound like PAUL HARDCASTLE?s Eighties hit 19 and be a sure-fire club hit. One of the record?s backers, Les Molloy, told me: ?We are...

US forces 'turn down Sahhaf's surrender overtures' April 30 2003 Iraq's former information minister Mohammad Said al-Sahhaf, who denied to the end the presence of US forces in Baghdad, was turned down by US troops after trying to turn himself in, said the London-based Arab newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, citing a Kurdish official. Sahhaf had been at his aunt's house in Baghdad for the past four days and wanted US troops to arrest him so that "they can protect him" but they refused since he was not on their "most wanted" deck of playing cards, said the paper, citing Adel Murad...

Boycotts don't work, America cannot beat anyone in a war, the supply lines are too thin, Iraqi resistance is stiff, the Arab street will rise up, and my favorite, "There are no American infidels in Baghdad. Never!" The bottom line is that the Left wants everyone to believe them, or in the case of the former Iraqi Minister of Information Baghdad Bob, believe anything but what is actually happening.....

The Iraqi information minister who became a global celebrity with his flare for outlandish lies and hyperbole has a new job in the media waiting for him. "We see no problem in having Mr. Sahhaf join us," Ali Al-Hedeithy, the head of Al-Arabiya told Agence France-Presse. "First of all, Sahhaf is not on the list of the 55 Iraqis most wanted by the Americans, and he won international...

During the war he was the oddball public face of America's enemy Iraq, but now there are claims that Mohammad Said Sahaf, the former information minister, cannot get himself arrested. The minister, nicknamed "Comical Ali" for his eccentric denials that Iraqi forces were being overrun, is said to have tried to turn himself in to the Americans. But they refused, as he was not on their list of the 55 most wanted members of Saddam Hussein's regime. A senior Kurdish official said that Sahaf had been holed up at a relative's house in central Baghdad for a week near a...
