Fox News is President Donald Trump’s favorite network, thanks to its largely favorable coverage. But not everyone on the air there was singing his praises. On Thursday, A.B. Stoddard, an associate editor at Real Clear Politics and a regular on the network, said the anonymous op-ed published this week in The New York Times that claimed there were people in the White House actively working against Trump was likely to set the president off. “I think this writer believes that they’re trying to calm down the country and assure everybody who’s nervous about President Trump’s temperament that all’s well,” Stoddard...

One thing that sticks out to me reading the anonymous editorial in the New York Times is that it doesn't sound like a government official wrote it. The big "tell" is the use of the term "senior officials" in one form or similar at three points in the body of the editorial. Do regular people write like that? Not really but you know who does? Reporters. Think about it. How often do you see reporters using the term "senior officials" when writing on background? It is fairly frequent. In contrast how often do high level officials in the government refer...

On a week when Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court confirmation or Bob Woodward's book were seen ahead of time as the two big stories that would consume media coverage, along came an anonymous source, a senior administration official, to the New York Times with a scathing op-ed on President Trump that has Washington and the press (again) aflutter with talk of this being THE moment that changes everything. Let's first unpack who, at least in general terms, the source of the column is ... a column that includes describing the president’s leadership style as "impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective," among other...

Collusion? You want to see some collusion? Check out CNN’s Alisyn Camerota this morning. She expressed reluctance in outing the anonymous author of yesterday’s New York Times op-ed. Camerota gave two reasons for her reluctance: [snip] 2. “I also am uncomfortable going too far in trying to out this person who wasn’t, clearly, ready to be outed, because this person argues that they are doing important work inside the White House or inside the administration and therefore doesn’t want to be outed right now.” Let’s break this down. [snip] As to not wanting to out anonymous because “this person argues...

President Donald Trump demanded that that the New York Times hand over the anonymous official who disparaged the president in a recent op-ed for national security reasons, in a Wednesday tweet. Does the so-called “Senior Administration Official” really exist, or is it just the Failing New York Times with another phony source? If the GUTLESS anonymous person does indeed exist, the Times must, for National Security purposes, turn him/her over to government at once! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 5, 2018 “It may be cold comfort in this chaotic era, but Americans should know that there are adults in...

The hacking collective Anonymous is pledging to expose the people behind the "QAnon" conspiracy theory. The anarchist hacking group slammed the QAnon conspiracy as potentially dangerous and driven by a "brainless political agenda" in a video posted Sunday to what is widely considered the most reliable Anonymous Twitter account. "We will not sit idly by while you take advantage of the misinformed and poorly educated," the group said in the video, which was posted with the hashtags #OpQ and #OpQAnon. The video depicts various figures with Anonymous masks acting out certain aspects of the QAnon conspiracy against a constant backdrop...

The Justice Department's inspector general revealed on March 9 that the FBI has been systematically abusing one of the most controversial provisions of the USA Patriot Act: the expanded power to issue "national security letters." It no doubt surprised most Americans to learn that between 2003 and 2005 the FBI issued more than 140,000 specific demands under this provision -- demands issued without a showing of probable cause or prior judicial approval -- to obtain potentially sensitive information about U.S. citizens and residents. It did not, however, come as any surprise to me. Three years ago, I received a national...

If Kavanaugh's views were adopted by other courts, then other frivolous claims attacking religion in the public square would have a better chance of being heard in federal courts. Ed Whelan of Bench Memos yesterday defended Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s jurisprudence in a host of areas, including religious liberty. I have great respect for Whelan. I have long been an admirer of his blog, checking it daily. But I fear he may be either working too hastily under time pressure, or blinded by his friendship with Kavanaugh, and in any case is mistaken in his defense of the judge’s religious-liberty jurisprudence....

The founding document of Alcoholics, Anonymous, known to adherents as the "Big Book," sold at auction Saturday for $2.4 million to billionaire and Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay. The auction house Profiles in History announced the sale of the manuscript with handwritten notes from the group's founding fathers. Irsay told The Associated Press he plans to build a special display for the manuscript and display it for several months a year at Alcoholics Anonymous' headquarters in New York. He says he attempted to buy the manuscript when it was up for auction several years ago, and he is thrilled at...

In a rare public statement on Wednesday, the FBI said that it has "grave concerns" about a Republican-crafted memo alleging corrosive abuse of U.S. surveillance powers by the Justice Department that is expected to be released in the coming days. "With regard to the House Intelligence Committee’s memorandum, the FBI was provided a limited opportunity to review this memo the day before the committee voted to release it," the bureau said. "As expressed during our initial review, we have grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo’s accuracy."

At the link is a youtube video that is 6:10 minutes in length and purports to be from the group known as Anonymous. The narration explains that Anonymous believes the timing of the Antifa November 4 scheduled event was intentionally meant to disrupt Anonymous' "Million Mask March". In the video, Anonymous declares war on Antifa. Anonymous speaks of disrupting Antifa communications and websites (e.g., DoS and DDoS Attacks). Futher, they say that if Antifa dares to attend Anonymous' Million Mask March they will encounter a face-to-face, or mask-to-mask confrontation. I will list the content directy below the video in which...

Just months after being slimed by President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign, Mitt Romney supporter and businessman Frank VanderSloot was informed that he was going to be audited not only by the Internal Revenue Service, but by the Labor Department as well. VanderSloot’s saga was told by columnist Kimberley Strassel in the Wall Street Journal last July. In April 2012, VanderSloot, who served as the national co-chair of Mitt Romney’s presidential finance committee, was one of eight Romney backers to be defamed as ”wealthy individuals with less-than-reputable records” in a post on the Obama campaign’s website. The post, entitled “Behind the...

After Trump secured the nomination, Obama's people filed a wiretapping request. As he was on the verge of winning, they did it again. After he won, they are doing everything they can to bring him down. It was always going to come down to this. One is the elected President of the United States. The other is the Anti-President who commands a vast network that encompasses the organizers of OFA, the official infrastructure of the DNC and Obama Anonymous, a shadow government of loyalists embedded in key positions across the government. A few weeks after the election, I warned that...

THE WASHINGTON POST late Friday night published an explosive story that, in many ways, is classic American journalism of the worst sort: The key claims are based exclusively on the unverified assertions of anonymous officials, who in turn are disseminating their own claims about what the CIA purportedly believes, all based on evidence that remains completely secret.
