Former Allman Brothers Band member Johnny Neel has died at age 70. No cause of death was immediately reported. He'd suffered a stroke five years ago but recovered and returned to performing. Former bandmate Warren Haynes confirmed Neel's death. "Aside from being an amazing musician and singer, Johnny was one of the funniest people on the planet — a true character," Haynes said in a social media post. "'Johnny Neel stories,' as we refer to them in our little chunk of the music world, are legendary." Neel joined the Allman Brothers on keyboards and harmonica before their 20th-anniversary reunion tour...

Wickipedia: "Little Martha" was the only Allman Brothers Band track written solely by group leader and partial namesake Duane Allman. The song first appeared as the final studio track on the Allman Brothers Band's fourth album, Eat a Peach, released in 1972. The track was recorded in October 1971, a few weeks before Duane Allman's death in a motorcycle accident.

(Headline USA) “Son of a Sinner” singer Jelly Roll was the big winner at the CMT Music Awards, as the rapper-turned-country singer took home three awards on Sunday as an outsider who won over fans with his confessional songs. The tattooed singer got emotional during the show in Austin, Texas, which aired on CBS, as he thanked the country radio industry for its acceptance and shouted out to those who felt like him. “You can be whatever you want to be. I promise you that. I told them that I wanted to be a country singer and I am standing...

Gregg was the fourth member of the band to die, but the first of natural causes—though his past lifestyle certainly contributed to those causes. I say American music pioneer because categorizing him in blues, rock, or especially Southern rock is pointless. Allman's influence goes far beyond Lynyrd Skynyrd and Phish. The Allman Brothers was made up of only one Allman brother, Gregg, far longer than not, and the group has re-created itself and been reborn at least twice, and very successfully.

Scooter Herring, a former Allman Brothers Band road manager whose drug conviction in the 1970s contributed to the breakup of the band, has died at 67. Herring died Saturday. A spokesman for Hart's Mortuary in Macon says a funeral service is scheduled Wednesday at Harvest Cathedral in Macon. Federal prosecutors went after Herring during the 1970s, charging that he helped supply singer and keyboardist Gregg Allman with cocaine. To avoid criminal charges, Allman testified against Herring and gave details of his own drug use. In 1976, Herring was convicted of five drug offenses and was sentenced to 75 years in...
