<p>LOS ANGELES (AP) - "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," the colossal adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's epic adventure, was crowned best-picture at Sunday's Academy Awards, the first fantasy flick ever to win the top Oscar.</p>
<p>Sean Penn won the best-actor honor for his perfomance as an ex-hoodlum who falls back on his criminal ways to exact revenge for his daughter's murder in "Mystic River." Charlize Theron took the best-actress for her perfomance as serial killer Aileen Wuornos, a highway prostitute executed for murdering some of her johns in "Monster."</p>
