Pat Ryder stated that advisers would not have a combat role but would advise and support the Ukrainian government and armed forces. "Throughout this conflict, the Department of Defense has reviewed and adjusted the U.S. presence in Ukraine as security conditions change. We are currently considering the possibility of sending several additional advisers to enhance the Defense Cooperation Office (ODC) at the embassy," Ryder said...

The inside story of how House Speaker Mike Johnson was flip-flopped on Ukraine aid starts with his top policy adviser...SNIP>>>> Johnson’s policy director, Dan Ziegler, was–until he joined the Speaker’s office as his top policy aide when Johnson won the Speakership last year–a lobbyist with the firm Williams & Jensen. He had previously worked for Johnson in other capacities, but left Johnson to become a lobbyist and accumulated a client list that included several top companies–some of which seem to have a financial interest in seeing Congress pass Ukraine aid. The lobbying firm for which he worked represents a number...

The influential Scientific Advisory Group on Emergencies (SAGE) has endorsed a report telling government ministers to consider mandating mask-wearing in busy outdoor settings such as markets, playgrounds, and parks. The paper by SAGE’s Environmental Modelling Group added that there was a contagion risk in other “semi-enclosed spaces” such as at bus stops. It also recommended that masks be worn in the corridors and communal areas of workplaces.

President-Elect Biden’s administration is just beginning to take shape... The leading public contenders are almost exclusively figures who served in the Obama/Biden or Clinton/Gore administrations. Oftentimes, in both. Yahoo Finance analyzed 21 names being floated on various media lists for top economic jobs and found that 17 of them had served in some official capacity in a previous Democratic administration...

The nation’s top environmental protection official signed a directive Tuesday aimed at preventing conflicts of interest while bolstering the independence and integrity of scientists who advise the government. Under the new policy announced by Scott Pruitt, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, researchers and scientists who currently receive grants from the agency are not eligible to fill open slots on three science advisory groups. “Whatever science comes out of EPA shouldn’t be political science,” Pruitt, appointed by President Donald Trump, told reporters during a press conference at EPA headquarters in Washington. “From this day forward, EPA advisory committee members will...

Another hideous person rises through the ranks of the Obama administration : Mr. Robert Malley. He is cut from the same cloth as many of those that Obama surrounds himself with. In other words, a person who hates America and sympathizes with our enemies. And now he is in charge of the administration's absurd, ridiculous, disingenuous, pathetic, uncommitted effort to combat ISIS. First a bit of back story. Malley was born in 1963 to parents who were communists, Islamist sympathizers, and Jew haters. His mother worked for the UN delegation of the National Liberation Front, an anti-American political party. His...

Eliminate the current Rhino power group as GOP advisors and select a super leadership group for our next President in favor of a large power group of business leaders including the current candidates. Every one of the current candidates can add something to the next Presidency in terms of what has to be done to overturn the damage to our country by Obama. We need powerful, patriotic leadership to get rid of his damage. American patriotic leadership and powerful business leaders should all contribute to this effort.

Britain was pulled closer towards a renewed cold war with Russia when David Cameron announced UK military trainers are to be deployed to help Ukraine forces stave off further Russian backed incursions into its sovereign territory. The decision – announced on Tuesday but under consideration by the UK national security council since before Christmas – represents the first deployment of British troops to the country since the near civil war in eastern Ukraine began more than a year ago. Downing Street said the deployment was not just a practical bilateral response to a request for support, but a signal to...

The Obama administration has notified Congress of its plans to train and arm the Ukrainian national guard next year, the Pentagon said on Friday, as Washington continues to intensify its response to Moscow's support for rebels in eastern Ukraine. "The Defense Department and State Department have notified Congress of our intent to use $19 million in global security contingency fund authority to train and equip four companies and one tactical headquarters of the Ukrainian national guard as part of their efforts to build their capacity for internal defense," Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby told reporters. The training, which requires...

A team of Pentagon officials is heading to Ukraine to help the country rebuild its fractured military, a mission that lawmakers and analysts expect will result in recommendations for greater military assistance in the country’s fight against pro-Russia separatists amid international outrage over the downing of a commercial airplane. Within the next few weeks, a group of Defense Department representatives who specialize in strategy and policy will head to Kiev to evaluate specific programs that the United States may want to help bolster, said Army Col. Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman. Their objective is to work with Ukrainians to “shape...

When the first of the 300 military advisers US President Barack Obama promised the Iraqi government arrived in Baghdad Wednesday, June 25, Iranian and Saudi Arabian arms shipments were already in full flow to opposing sides in embattled Iraq, DEBKAfile’s military sources report. At least two cargo planes from bases in Iran were landing daily at Baghdad’s military airport, carrying 150 tons of military equipment. More than 1,000 tons were flown in this past week alone. Tehran has replicated for the Iraqi army the routine it established for Bashar Assad’s army, furnishing its needs on a daily basis as per...

In 1961, France's Charles de Gaulle told President John F. Kennedy that in Vietnam the U.S. would sink "step by step into a bottomless quagmire," however much it spent "in men and money." President Kennedy had begun sending more advisors to Vietnam to help the Diem regime, increasing their number to 800 in 1961. Kennedy refused his military advisors advice to send combat divisions to Vietnam, but he increased the number of so-called advisors and aid to the Saigon regime.

The Miami Herald is reporting Hugo Chávez early demise was recognized long before the rest of the world was privvy to the details of a late diagnosed and lethal cancer. With the help of Cuban brothers Fidel and Raúl, and Chávez' hand-picked successor Nicolás Maduro, the Venezuelan presidential election was moved from December 2012 to October 2012, two months that the report says were crucial. In October Chávez could still stand before his supporters to applaud his re-election, but there was no certainty that he could do so in December. He returned to Cuba for a fourth round of cancer treatments in early...

President Obama indignantly denied Mitt Romney's charge in Monday's final debate that his foreign policy amounts to "an apology tour" around the world. "This has been probably the biggest whopper that's been told during the course of this campaign," Obama protested. "And every fact-checker and every reporter who's looked at it, governor, has said this is not true." In fact, the president has followed a "doctrine of mea culpa" crafted by a handful of radical advisers who have urged him to, in so many words, apologize for America's war on terror and nuclear superiority. • Samantha Power. "U.S. foreign policy...
