The Mississippi State Department of Health has declared a public health emergency in response to a sharp rise in infant mortality across the state. Newly released data show that Mississippi’s infant mortality rate in 2024 reached its highest level in more than a decade, with 9.7 infant deaths for every 1,000 live births. The increase was especially pronounced among newborns less than 28 days old, with 5.9 deaths per 1,000 live births. Cracker Barrel has been around for 55 years. Through the decades, the restaurant has been known as a family-friendly spot for homestyle food, general store shopping, and nostalgic activities. The brand is undergoing a major makeover now, and some diners have noticed that even the beloved peg game is changing. The peg game has been around since Cracker Barrel opened in 1960, and it has been a staple on their dining tables ever since. It's a fun (screen free!) way for diners to pass the time while they wait for their food. Plus, it's been available in the store for...

The government has agreed plans to allow around 40 students in Gaza to come to the UK in the coming weeks to take up funded university scholarships. Nine have been told they will be given assistance to leave Gaza to pursue scholarships under the Chevening scheme, a government-funded initiative for international students to study one-year master's degrees. The BBC understands the home secretary has also approved plans to help around 30 others who have fully funded scholarships through other private schemes. They would be the first to leave Gaza to study in the UK since the Hamas-Israel war began in...

Kim received an alert on her phone that someone was at her front door. To her surprise, it was a SWAT team with their armored vehicle, about to break down her front door and ransack her home. Eventually, detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department realized they had arrived at least 5 years too late to find their suspect. Leaving behind over 20 grand worth of damage to Kim's home, they offered no explanation, no apology, and refused to pay for the damage they caused.

There is nothing more tragic than a life devoid of purpose. Without meaning, souls wither away. Anybody who has interacted with drug addicts whose only “purpose” is to secure another “fix” knows this to be true. The human part of those so afflicted steadily disappears as the body is overtaken by a desperate need to remain in a sedated state of oblivion. Almost every city in America has a “no-go” zone of hardcore homeless addicts who shuffle along the streets like zombies from a horror movie. The sight is surreal and a shocking reminder that even the most powerful country...

Ben Shapiro: 'This footage is pretty catastrophic for the AMA.'The president of a major medical organization made wild claims about the benefits of transgender procedures on kids during a conversation with a Michigan lawmaker before falling back on so-called “experts,” according to video footage published by the Ben Shapiro Show on Tuesday. During a video call earlier this year, American Medical Association (AMA) President Bobby Mukkamala defended his organization’s support for transgender procedures on kids by saying they relied on what “experts” had told them. Mukkamala also claimed that puberty blockers were reversible and cited other questionable statistics about transgender...

FOR FRANTIC DEMOCRATS, TRUMP BASHING IS THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN. The Democratic National Committee is holding its summer meeting in Minneapolis. There is a lot to talk about. The party, of course, is suffering through a major slide in popularity. A Wall Street Journal poll a few weeks ago found that voters’ approval of the party is its lowest in 35 years. A New York Times report this month found that, “Of the 30 states that track voter registration by political party, Democrats lost ground to Republicans in every single one between the 2020 and 2024 elections — and...

A new law went into effect in Colorado earlier this month requiring health warning labels on gas stoves, similar to those placed on cigarette packages. It’s one example of multiple efforts, primarily in blue states, to stop consumers from using gas-powered appliances in their homes. After a Biden administration official in 2023 alluded to the possibility of a ban on gas stoves in the name of public health, legacy media outlets produced a number of “fact checks” insisting the Biden administration wasn’t going to ban gas stoves. They claimed the whole idea was just a "right-wing conspiracy." Conveniently, most of...

https://babylonbee.com/news/trump-unveils-giant-cannon-for-faster-more-entertaining-deportationsWASHINGTON, D.C. — President Trump delighted the nation this week, unveiling plans for a giant cannon that he hopes will facilitate faster, more entertaining deportations. "We've got to make our country safe again, and the best way to do that is with a giant cannon capable of firing them out of the country," said Trump. "I want a circus one. Just tremendous what those circus freaks can do. Can you believe they have a man who tames lions? I told them there's no way you can tame a lion, but he did it. Anyway, cannons. We're gonna have so many...

President Donald Trump has ordered the creation of new federal and military “specialized units,” framed as a move to ensure public safety in Washington, D.C., and beyond. In the order signed on Monday, he directed federal agencies and the Pentagon to hire, train, and equip rapid-response forces for deployment in the capital, “other cities,” and, potentially, “nationwide.”The order, titled “Additional Measures to Address the Crime Emergency in the District of Columbia,” builds on Executive Order 14333 of August 11, which first declared a “crime emergency.”Trump justified the latest move by claiming that “rampant violence and disorder” threaten the federal government...

Nearly 80% of US neurologists prescribing drugs for multiple sclerosis (MS) received at least one pharma industry payment, with higher volume prescribers more likely to be beneficiaries, finds a 5 year analysis of Medicare database payments, published in the open access journal BMJ Open. And those in receipt of these payments were more likely to prescribe that company’s drugs, especially if the sums involved were larger, sustained, and recent, the findings indicate. Because of the lifelong nature of MS, effective therapies are usually continued indefinitely unless a patient’s clinical response changes, explain the researchers. And MS drug prescriptions are Medicare’s...

James Burnham began his intellectual odyssey as a disciple of Leon Trotsky, but he became disillusioned with Marxism in the late 1930s. The Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939 especially drew Burnham’s ire. Trotsky rationalized the invasion using Marxist ideology: Soviet socialism was spreading; therefore, it must be good. Burnham disagreed, arguing that the invasion was simply Soviet imperialism — a confiscation of land by Stalin. After seven years as one of its leading American thinkers, Burnham left the Marxist movement. Burnham’s experiences with Marxism scarred him. He began to recognize that “only by renouncing all ideology can we begin...

Small local organizations called Active Clubs have spread widely across the U.S. and internationally, using fitness as a cover for a much more alarming mission. These groups are a new and harder-to-detect form of white supremacist organizing that merges extremist ideology with fitness and combat sports culture. Active Clubs frame themselves as innocuous workout groups on digital platforms and decentralized networks to recruit, radicalize and prepare members for racist violence. The clubs commonly use encrypted messaging apps such as Telegram, Wire and Matrix to coordinate internally. For broader propaganda and outreach they rely on alternative social media platforms such as...

A new project pro-abortion activist billionaire Bill Gates is funding raises pro-life concerns. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is funding a new project that involves embalming deceased newborn babies to harvest tissues and organs for artificial intelligence research, according to a report by Modernity News. The initiative, which focuses on using the remains of infants who die in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), could spark outrage among those who view it as a disturbing exploitation of vulnerable lives. Adam Sandler is setting the record straight on the meaning behind a scathing lyric in his “SNL:50” song. During the 50th anniversary special of “Saturday Night Live,” the comedian, 58, sang an original track titled “50 Years.” Sandler co-wrote “50 Years” alongside “SNL” writer Dan Bulla. In the track, the “Happy Gilmore” star belted out: “50 years of finding out your favorite musician is antisemitic.” During an interview with Vulture, Sandler was asked if he had a certain musician in mind when writing the line.
