This week, American Eagle, which brought us baby tees and low-rise denim in the aughts, debuted an advertisement campaign starring actor Sydney Sweeney. Sweeney, 27, is featured doing all sorts of Americana things in her American Eagle denim — like leaning over the hood of a white Mustang or lying on the floor holding a long-haired German shepherd puppy. At the end of each video, an off-screen voice speaks over blocky letters declaring that Sweeney — blonde, blue-eyed and white — “has great jeans.” The wordplay was made even more explicit when American Eagle posted a video of Sweeney standing...

Israel isn’t committing genocide - it’s resisting genocide. On Oct 7, 2023, thousands of Muslim Jihadis swept from Gaza into Israel, killing, torturing, raping and kidnapping anyone in their path. The victims included not only Israelis or Jews, but Americans and Europeans, Christians and Buddhists, as well as those Bedouins whom the Hamas, PLO and Islamic Jihad attackers did not consider Muslims. Their rationale was not a “Palestinian” cause or any of the later war propaganda myths about an “open air prison”, but an Islamic religious imperative to drive out infidels. That’s why they named their genocidal campaign, ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’...

The U.S. economy surged between April and June after shrinking in the first three months of the year, driven by a large shift in imports tied to President Trump's trade policies. By the numbers The country's GDP increased at an annual rate of 3% in the second quarter, the Commerce Department said Wednesday. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday the United States will impose a 25% tariff on goods imported from India starting on Aug. 1. He said India, which has the world's fifth largest economy, will also face an unspecified penalty on Aug. 1, but did not elaborate on the amount or what it was for. "While India is our friend, we have, over the years, done relatively little business with them because their Tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the World, and they have the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary Trade Barriers of any Country," Trump wrote in...

It’s been a long time coming. But today the EPA, through its Administrator Lee Zeldin, finally began the formal process of rescinding the so-called “Endangerment Finding” (EF). The EF is the 2009 regulatory action by which the Obama-era EPA purported to determine that CO2 and other greenhouse gases constitute a “danger to human health and welfare.” That Finding then formed the basis for all subsequent federal greenhouse gas regulations, including efforts of Obama and Biden regulators to force the closure of all power plants running on coal and natural gas, and to mandate increased vehicle mileage to levels that no...

US president Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that India will have to pay 25 per cent tariff from August 1. Trump also said that India will have to pay an additional penalty for buying energy and arms from Russia. The 25% tariff rate announced for India is 1% less than the 26% declared by Trump in his April 2 'Liberation Day' conference. "Remember, while India is our friend, we have, over the years, done relatively little business with them because their Tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the World, and they have the most strenuous and obnoxious...

Michigan House Democrats introduced legislation Thursday to criminalize the concealing the identities of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and other officers while on duty. If signed into law, it would apply to federal, state and local law enforcement across the state, according to the legislation. There will be exceptions for the use of masks for undercover operations, protection against disease and specific dangerous situations. If violated, officers could face up to 90 days in jail and up to a $1,000 fine. Democratic Michigan State Rep. Betsy Coffia announced the bill at a July 25 press conference alongside Democratic State...

Brooke Hogan is avoiding any potential issues surrounding Hulk Hogan’s large estate. The daughter of the wrestling legend removed herself from Hogan’s will in 2023 to avoid a financial battle following his death because she didn’t trust the people around Hogan, TMZ reported on Tuesday. Brooke’s biggest concern at the time was trying to protect her dad from those she felt were attempting to take advantage of him; however, the two disagreed over the subject and she eventually reached out to Hogan’s financial manager to have herself taken out of the will, according to the report.

The ruthless leader of a vigilante gang who tortured an innocent father to try to force a confession out of him for crimes he did not commit is now pleading to be set free. Father-of-eight Bradley 'BJ' Lyons, from Lakes Entrance, Victoria, was threatened with a chainsaw and murdered after his meth addict wife falsely accused him of sexually assaulting her daughters. In December 2023, Lyons' executioner Albert Thorn, 60, was told he would likely die in jail after he was convicted over the evil ordeal. Supreme Court of Victoria Justice Andrew Tinney sentenced Thorn to life behind bars, with...

What led Obama to allegedly organize a takedown of the Trump presidency? Back in 2016, I remember reading an analysis that President Obama's two terms had left the Democrats in bad shape. In other words, he started in 2009 with huge majorities and left town with the GOP in charge of the U.S. Senate and House. It was probably not what Obama planned, but it happened that way. So the question is: What led Obama to allegedly organize a takedown of the Trump presidency? Was he hurt or was his ego crushed? I like this analysis from Martin Gurri: He...

The Admiral Kuznetsov, Russia’s only aircraft carrier, is likely headed for the scrapyard after a disastrous career. Plagued by mishaps, including a fire, a crane collapsing on its deck, and the sinking of its drydock, the carrier has been out of service since 2017. With its crew reportedly transferred to fight in Ukraine and the Russian economy strained by war, the Kremlin can no longer afford the “albatross.”

Preface. This is my book review of Chris Mooney’s 2012 “The Republican Brain. The Science of Why They Deny Science—and Reality”. This has grown from a review of this book (far below) to more recent science and writing on the conservative mind. People who want certainty and do not like change or changing their mind have been with us since humans evolved. That is discussed in another post: Garcia, H. 2019. Sex, Power, and Partisanship. How evolutionary science makes sense of our political divide. Lately with all the division and even talk of civil war, there have been many broadcasts...

WASHINGTON – The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today launched a new U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) campaign to recruit brave and heroic Americans to join ICE as federal law enforcement agents and remove the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from America’s streets. “Your country is calling you to serve at ICE. In the wake of the Biden administration’s failed immigration policies, your country needs dedicated men and women of ICE to get the worst of the worst criminals out of our country,” said Secretary Kristi Noem. “This is a defining moment in our nation’s history. Your...

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday many people were starving in Gaza and suggested Israel could do more on humanitarian access, as Palestinians struggled to feed their children a day after Israel declared steps to improve supplies. As the death toll from two years of war in Gaza nears 60,000, a growing number of people are dying from starvation and malnutrition, Gaza health authorities say, with images of starving children shocking the world and fuelling international criticism of Israel over sharply worsening conditions. Describing starvation in Gaza as real, Trump's assessment put him at odds with Israeli Prime Minister...

Fighter-writer Brandon Smith published a great piece last week entitled “Lefties, Illegals and Minorities Are Finally Experiencing ‘Consequence Culture.’” In that essay, Smith reminds readers of the psychological war that raged four years ago. We weren’t allowed to question the 2020 election’s mail-in ballot fraud or the statistically improbable results that dragged Biden’s dementia-addled brain back into the White House. Public health authorities were conspiring with social media platforms to censor anyone who doubted the efficacy of the pharmaceutical industry’s magical elixirs conveniently redefined as “vaccines.” The “woke” movement was aggressively shoveling its special brand of “trans” and child-grooming excrement...

Despite ongoing pressure from President Donald Trump, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is expected to leave key interest rates unchanged, according to market projections and analysts. Powell is set to announce his decision today. Most data indicates the economy is in good shape, with a relatively low 4.1% unemployment rate and relatively subdued inflation. But in June, the economy began to show prices for apparel, appliances and toys beginning to accelerate, and forecasters suggested tariffs would be likely to continue to drive up consumer prices. In a twist, Powell said the Fed might have already cut interest rates had it...
