India-US Trade Deal: Donald Trump Announces 25% Tariff On India, Plus Penalty For Buying Energy And Arms From Russia
Times of India ^ | 7/30/2025 | Staff

US president Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that India will have to pay 25 per cent tariff from August 1. Trump also said that India will have to pay an additional penalty for buying energy and arms from Russia. The 25% tariff rate announced for India is 1% less than the 26% declared by Trump in his April 2 'Liberation Day' conference.

"Remember, while India is our friend, we have, over the years, done relatively little business with them because their Tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the World, and they have the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary Trade Barriers of any Country," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

"Also, they have always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia, and are Russia’s largest buyer of ENERGY, along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to STOP THE KILLING IN UKRAINE — ALL THINGS NOT GOOD! INDIA WILL THEREFORE BE PAYING A TARIFF OF 25%, PLUS A PENALTY FOR THE ABOVE, STARTING ON AUGUST FIRST. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. MAGA!" he said.

Slap a 50% tariff on the wages of all H1Bs that come here to work at Microsoft...and all kinds of places like universities, hospital and medical IT, local governments.

As of 2025, roughly 442,000 unique beneficiaries were registered for H-1B visas in the United States, according to USCIS data. For the Fiscal Year 2025 (starting October 1, 2024), about 120,600 H-1B registrations were initially selected in the lottery, which is a subset of the total registrations submitted. The total number of eligible registrations dropped significantly from about 759,000 in 2024 to around 470,000 registrations in 2025, reflecting changes in the selection process aimed at reducing multiple registrations for the same individual and limiting fraud.

These numbers reflect registrations for new and continuing H-1B status, but the total number of active H-1B visa holders in the U.S. at any given time includes both new visa holders and those with ongoing valid H-1B status from prior years. USCIS does not publish an exact current total population of all active H-1B visa holders, but estimates indicate hundreds of thousands of people hold valid H-1B visas in the U.S. at any time.

In Fiscal Year 2026, the number of eligible H-1B registrations further decreased to about 344,000, with USCIS selecting around 118,660 unique beneficiaries by the end of the first lottery round. The continuation of the beneficiary-centric selection process, where each individual is entered only once regardless of multiple employer registrations, is credited with this decline.

And Trump’s team wonders why Brics is expanding? When India starts selling off its US debt instruments, ( Treasuries, Bonds, notes) who will buy the $7 trillion in debt coming due?

The Fed, further increasing our unprecedented national debt….we are in a debt spiral.

* India holds $ 240 billion of our debt. Not much some say, however when they start to dump their holdings, many more will follow.

“”Slap a 50% tariff on the wages of all H1Bs that come here to work at Microsoft...and all kinds of places like universities, hospital and medical IT, local governments.””

How about a nice, hefty tax on American companies that choose to hire foreign customer service agents instead of hiring American ones. Getting really tired of trying to understand what the hell they’re saying... that is, IF you can get a human one on the phone.

BRICS stronk like Putin!
————
Getting stronger day by day. The USD has dropped 11.5 percent since January, making every American’s overseas purchases 11.5 percent MORE.

The USD drop is approaching a record, we last saw this huge drop in 1972 when the US got off the Gold standard. This isn’t going to go well.

Quick AI answer:

“ BRICS is becoming stronger as it expands its membership and influence, now representing a significant portion of the global economy and population. The group aims to provide an alternative to Western-dominated institutions and enhance cooperation among emerging economies.

Membership Expansion
New Members
2024 Additions: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE joined the original five members.
2025 Addition: Indonesia became the tenth member.
Potential New Members
Over 30 countries have expressed interest in joining, including Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and Turkey.
Economic Impact
Global Representation
BRICS nations account for approximately:
45% of the world’s population
28% of global economic output
47% of global crude oil production
Trade Dynamics
Intra-BRICS trade has surged, with a 56% increase from 2017 to 2022.
The group encourages the use of local currencies in trade, reducing reliance on the U.S. dollar.
Political Influence
Global Governance
BRICS aims to reform global governance structures to better represent the Global South.
The bloc is seen as a platform for collective resilience amid increasing geopolitical tensions.“

The USD will suffer, as we are witnessing.

-——India will have to pay 25 per cent tariff -——

India will pay no tariffs.

Tariffs paid on imported Indian goods will be paid by the American purchaser of the goods. The point of the tariff is to raise the price to the American consumer to the point the purchase will be too expensive.

The devaluation of the US$ is de facto devaluation in the US Debt

By the rule of 72, at 11.5% devaluation, the total debt value will be halved in about 6.2 years

The customer agents from Philippines are understandable, and the female ones are very nice with nice feminine voices. I had a problem with Amazon the other day and was steered to chat to take care of it. 3 weeks ago I resolved an Amazon problem with one email.

Only if we keep printing more paper dollars….which most likely will happen, they have no choice. Trump knows this, and I am sure he has a plan so our currency doesn’t start going the way of Venezuela’s Bolivar.

Occasionally, you get lucky. But the point here is... WHY is Amazon and other companeis hiring foreign customer service agents for accounts here in the USA. It just adds insult to injury when you get an agent that you can’t understand due to their heavy foreign accent. It should be Americans answering those phones for American accounts.
