“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death” (Romans 8:2). The moment the Holy Spirit places us in Christ, He also frees us from the power of sin and death. The third stanza of Charles Wesley’s great hymn “And Can It Be?” describes the composer’s thoughts regarding the Holy Spirit’s saving work in his life: Long my imprisoned spirit lay Fast bound in sin and nature’s night. Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray: I woke—the dungeon flamed with light! My chains fell off, my heart...

The Tennessee Star has released all 90 pages of the “manifesto” of Audrey Hale, the trans-identified shooter who killed six people at Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee last year. The journal had remained under seal from the Metro Nashville Police Department after the FBI sent the local law enforcement agency a memo stating that it “strongly discourages” the release of so-called “legacy tokens” because of concerns that future mass shooters would “immerse themselves in and study these materials for inspiration and tactics.” Critics of the move to keep the document confidential theorized that there was an effort to hide that...

NBA superstar Steph Curry, who has long touted his Christian creds and beliefs on and off the court, has said in an interview that he’s endorsing Kamala Harris for President specifically because she’ll defend abortion rights. Curry has been relatively vocal about his supposed faith, particularly in episode five of the Facebook series, “Stephen vs. The Game.” Curry grew up in the church, attending youth group every Wednesday evening and Sunday morning services. His testimony has been featured frequently, such as Here and Here, and he once described his conversion to the faith when he was in grade eight, recounting:...

N.T Wright says Americans’ defense of gun rights is inconsistent with their defense of the unborn, because they are too polarized by social media, they accept “over-simplified” arguments to fall in line with a particular leader, they can’t handle “nuance,” and ultimately, they just aren’t an “educated electorate.” But does this sound like a nuanced, educated take on gun laws? “When I go to America, it always astonishes me that the same people are vitriolically opposed to abortion and vitriolically in favor of everybody carrying guns and being prepared to shoot people at any time. On the one hand, you’d...

The building which is currently standing empty in Denver has been floated as an option and is being considered by the city's Democratic Mayor. SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV (WOWK) — It was a dramatic night at Shepherd University in the eastern panhandle as protesters briefly shouted down West Virginia’s two U.S. senators. Fortunately, no one got hurt. More than a dozen protesters took the stage at Shepherd University Thursday night, disrupting the “Beyond Pepperoni Rolls” forum with U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (I) and Shelley Moore Capito (R). The forum was moderated by MetroNews “Talkline” host Hoppy Kercheval. The group is concerned about climate change, and its belief that both West Virginia senators are still too supportive of the fossil fuel industry. Campus police came to the...

This week, on the advice entrepreneur Elon Musk, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump vowed to create a government efficiency commission. "This isn't just some untried pipe dream," Trump emphasized. "Mr. Musk actually did this when he bought Twitter. By analyzing the necessary work to be done he was able to reduce staffing costs by 80% without negatively affecting the company's productivity. If we can replicate this in the federal government we could save billions of dollars without sacrificing essential services. We could lower federal debt, cut interest rates, reduce taxes and allow working men and women to keep more of...

Former President Donald Trump will attend a fundraiser in the Bay Area next week during his second trip to the region in roughly three months. What is abnormal, though, is that the billionaire hosting the event at his Woodside home on Sept. 13 is related to Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of California Gov. Gavin Newsom. The tickets for next week’s fundraiser, hosted by Tom and Stacey Siebel, are going for as much as $500,000 per couple, according to the Los Angeles Times. Tom, a software developer, is a second...

Hunter Biden shocked the California courtroom on Thursday as he officially entered a guilty plea while jury selection was underway for his federal tax evasion trial. In December Hunter Biden was hit with a 9-count indictment filed in the Central District of California: Tax evasion, failure to file/pay taxes, and false/fraudulent tax return. The charges were handed down by Special Counsel David Weiss after a sweetheart plea deal on tax charges fell apart last summer. The indictment details a “four-year scheme” to avoid the $1.4+ million tax obligations he owed between 2016 and 2019 and to file false returns. Hunter...

Infectious disease experts say many people are not taking the latest Covid-19 wave in the US seriously enough and are not getting vaccinated or using antiviral drugs when sick, despite a summer wave that was larger and came earlier than anticipated. Epidemiologists are saying that while symptoms of this wave are more mild than earlier strains, the virus remains a threat – particularly for older adults and people with underlying health conditions. In response, public health officials are urging people to get a booster now – unless they recently had Covid, in which case they should wait three to four...
