Dividends have begun to pay off for Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s migration strategy as figures have shown a near-two-thirds reduction of illegal arrivals over last year. Statistics released this week by the Italian Interior Ministry showed that 41,530 illegal immigrants landed on the country’s coasts since the start of the year. While still historically high, the figure represents a 64 per cent decline over the same period last year, when 114,513 were recorded reaching Italian beaches amid a massive wave of illegals pouring across the Mediterranean from North Africa, particularly Tunisia. The figures also show a drop compared to...

Over his decades in the public eye, former President Donald J. Trump has a well-established history of making degrading and racist remarks about women, people of color and pretty much anyone else who crosses his path. It is a proclivity that dates to his days as a reality television star and that has only expanded in the meme-driven era of social media. In the words of Senator Kevin Cramer, Republican of North Dakota, Mr. Trump is “an equal opportunity offender.” But in Vice President Kamala Harris, Mr. Trump has found a particularly complicated and risky target for his trademark brand...

Housing affordability in the United States has taken a sharp turn for the worse in recent years, as house prices surged to historical highs during and after the pandemic and mortgage rates have risen steeply over the past three years, as the Fed tried to rein in inflation. It all began with a surge in demand for houses during the Covid-19 pandemic, when many Americans, flush with cash from government stimulus checks, reevaluated their living situation and sought more space amid stay-at-home orders and the sudden possibility of remote work. Further fueling demand were the historically low mortgage rates after the...

Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris once championed aggressive leftist policies. She supported the Green New Deal while senator and has called for the prosecution of fossil fuel companies. The pièce de résistance, however, was when she unequivocally threw her support behind a ban on fracking in 2019. But now that her radical climate agenda isn’t politically convenient, Harris invented a 2020 position on fracking to try and cover up her actual views.During the 2019 Democrat primary, Harris was asked whether she would commit to a federal ban on fracking.“There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking,” Harris said. “So yes.”...

In 2018, at the same time as Tiril Kaar was mulling over the style of their Norwegian folk dress, Swedish artist Fredy Clue was thinking about culottes. Clue, who also uses they and them pronouns, was searching for their own space in the Swedish folk culture. Eventually, as the trouser skirt became the basis for the design of a non-binary Swedish folk dress, they realised that they, too, were non-binary. "My inner self spoke through my ideas," Clue tells BBC Culture. Clue developed the Bäckadräkten unisex folk dress with the help of artist Ida Björs. The two studied historical clothes...

You don’t get to insist Donald Trump’s private peccadilloes are a criminal matter while being silent about the corrupt relationships of Kamala Harris, the Clintons, and so many others.Pundit and talk radio host Erick Erickson recently went on a rant about how “both parties have nominated terrible candidates whose supporters have decided to behave terribly to bully people into supporting their terrible candidate.” Erickson makes it known he’s still inclined to vote for Trump, but you’d think any prominent right-wing pundit who publicly expresses doubt about Donald Trump two months before the election would be chalked up as a win...

Daily Readings from the USCCBJesus told his disciples this parable: “The Kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise.” Matthew 25:1–2The “ten virgins” in this parable refer to the bridesmaids who were following Jewish tradition by going to the home of the bride to await the coming of the groom for a wedding. This parable is one of a few parables Jesus told that emphasizes the importance of being vigilant in our Christian walk. As the parable goes on, we...

In an interview with CNN aired Thursday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who is Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, blamed “poor grammar” and “misspeaking” on his past lies about his military service. “I want to ask you a question about how you described your service in the National Guard,” CNN’s Dana Bash said. “You said that you carried weapons in war, but you have never deployed actually in a warzone. A campaign official said that you misspoke. Did you?” “Well, first of all, I’m incredibly proud. I’ve done 24 years in the uniform of this country…My record speaks for itself...

(NewsNation) — A reported altercation between Donald Trump’s campaign staff and an Arlington National Cemetery official isn’t likely to sway voters in November, GOP New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu said. “Trump is very unique in that respect because he’s connecting with people on a gut level of fighting. They want a fighter,” Sununu said during his Thursday appearance on “NewsNation Now.” “They’re willing to forgive all this other stuff because he’s willing to fight and disrupt.” The Republican presidential nominee visited the cemetery Monday to honor 13 service members who died during the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Bosses are quietly trying to reset worker pay levels, saying the era of overpaying for talent is over. Pay for many white-collar recruits shrank last year, and now wages for new hires in construction, manufacturing, food and other blue-collar sectors appear to be ebbing too, according to an analysis of millions of jobs posted on ZipRecruiter.com. Job seekers report seeing roles that once offered salaries between $175,000 and $200,000 a year ago now being advertised for tens of thousands of dollars less, a change that has had them rethinking their pay expectations. Companies are also moving job openings to lower-cost...

Many members, including NHS leaders and former presidents of medical royal colleges, have voiced their dismay over the report, led by paediatrician Hilary Cass. They have accused the BMA of being influenced by a 'vocal minority' with an ideological agenda. The controversy began when the BMA's 69-member council voted to formally reject the Cass review, which recommended halting the prescription of sex hormones to young patients with gender dysphoria. ...
