In the first new policy announcement of the campaign, the prime minister has unveiled a plan that would see 18-year-olds given the choice of a full-time military placement for 12 months or a scheme to volunteer for one weekend a month for a year. The placement would be selective - with tests used to decide who is eligible - and involve working with the armed forces or in cyber defence. The volunteering option would see young...

Joel Bueno shed tears of joy as his four-legged guests entered the intensive care unit where he had been admitted due to a blood clot. Bueno, 34, said being showered with affection by therapy dogs Vida and Lu reminded him of his own dog back home. "It's great to have someone that loves you more than anything else in the world," he told Reuters with a broad smile. "They give everything for you, no matter how you are with them." The visit was part of a trial launched by the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona and the Affinity Foundation, which...

With this airline, dogs are ditching the kennels and flying first class. BARK Air wants to pamper pets and their owners even before takeoff and will make its initial flight from New York to Los Angeles on Thursday (May 23). CEO Matt Meeker said the business idea came from struggling to transport Hugo, his Great Dane. "I was unable to travel with him long distances and had the idea that there should be an airline that caters to dogs," said Meeker, who also founded BarkBox, a subscription service for dog products owned by Bark Inc. "We cater everything to the...

Sherman, the Oscar-winning songwriter who partnered with his late brother to craft tunes for such Disney classics as Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Jungle Book, died Saturday. He was 95. Sherman, who also co-wrote “It’s a Small World (After All)” — considered the most performed song ever — as well as “You’re Sixteen,” a chart-topper for Ringo Starr, died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles of age-related illness,...

Donald Trump promised members of the Libertarian Party that he would “put a libertarian in my cabinet” and commute the life sentence of Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, a top demand of a political movement that intends to run its own candidate against him. “On day one, we will commute the sentence,” Trump said, offering to free the creator of what was once the internet’s most infamous drug clearinghouse. “We will bring him home.” His speeches more typically include a pledge to execute drug dealers, citing China as a model. “It’s time to be winners,” said Trump, asking rhetorically if...

Kaiser Permanente is America’s oldest HMO and largest healthcare provider. It’s a superb institution but is suffering the consequences of embracing the leftist COVID narrative. As a sign of its retreat from its COVID dead-end, it’s now trying to get its unvaccinated doctors back into the fold. For 33 years, I’ve been a completely satisfied Kaiser patient.* I’ve never received anything but good care from the people who work there, whether doctors, nurses, physical therapists, receptionists, pharmacists, or anyone else. I also think it’s a fantastic model of how medical care can be done well and affordably. Kaiser is named...

Despite the flashing of actual swastikas at pro-Hamas protests among the Dearborn set which votes Democrat, Joe Biden is determined to pin the 'Nazi' label on President Trump, which is falling flat. He's done it at least once, errantly hammering over and over again the misheard, out-of-context "fine people" statement President Trump made about a riot. And in his raging warnings about Trump being a threat to 'democracy,' he's looked distinctly Hitlerian himself against a red backdrop. But now he's trying to paint Trump as a Nazi based on fine print he found in a campaign ad, because he doesn't have...

Abstract artist Jackson Pollock once said that his paintings have no objective meaning, so the best way for people to enjoy them is to stop looking for it. For many of us, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has created a new school of abstract law where there is no need for objective meaning. The jury is simply supposed to enjoy it for what it is: a chance to convict Donald Trump. Pollock was famous for his painting drips on large canvases. Bragg has achieved the same effect by regenerating a dead misdemeanor on falsifying business records as 34 felony counts....

The years-long saga of former Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby's downfall and criminal processing may finally be at a close. This week, she went to court to learn her fate after multiple convictions for fraud and perjury. The prosecution had been seeking a two-year prison sentence, while Mosby's attorneys had pleaded for probation. As so often happens in these cases, the judge decided to split the baby and handed down a sentence of one year of home detention followed by three years of supervised release. She was also ordered to forfeit her condominium in Florida that she and her husband...

The freak-out is real. Never Trump Republicans and their fellow travelers on the left cannot accept the trend that former President Trump is gaining support among Latino voters. The worst critics are the strategists and pundits who once made a living off the Republican Party. Trump effectively made them irrelevant in 2016. Professional traditional Republicans held no sway with Trump. He went his own way. For advisers like Ana Navarro, the gravy train was over. She, like others, switched sides and threw in with Democrats to remain relevant in some circles. Grifters are gonna grift. Navarro was a longtime adviser...

NBC News reporter Dasha Burns was taken by surprise by her interviews of Black and Latino supporters at former President Donald Trump's campaign rally in the Bronx on Thursday. The MSNBC reporter expressed her disbelief to host Ana Cabrera that immigrants would actually back Trump and his immigration policies."Well, this might sound a little counterintuitive, but I did talk to folks in that crowd who themselves were immigrants, a lot of folks from the Dominican Republic. A lot of the people that I talked to were born and raised in the Bronx. For some of them, this was their first-ever...

In her forthcoming book, No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward she admitted to personally shooting her 14-month-old dog, Cricket, who was unsuitable for hunting due to her aggressive nature. Cricket also killed chickens, seemingly for the fun of it.###Kristi Noem did nothing unusual.According to the ASPCA’s recent data, approximately 390,000 dogs are annually euthanized in its shelters. An estimated 2 million dogs die in “puppy mills” each year due to being unsellable or no longer able to breed. No doubt, the total is much larger if figures from veterinarians are...
