A man has pleaded guilty to murder after stabbing his 19-year-old wife to death at their home in south London. Sahil Sharma plunged a knife into his wife Mehak Sharma’s neck at a property in Ash Tree Way, Croydon, on October 23 last year. The 24-year-old then rang 999 shortly after 4.15pm and confessed to the call operator that he’d killed her. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene where they found Mehak unresponsive having suffered catastrophic knife injuries. Emergency crews battled to save her but she was pronounced dead around 20 minutes later. Her family were informed after she...

A gang of 30 thieves have been charged after stealing 133 tonnes of chicken from a factory in one of the rarest heists in history. Thieves took 1,660 white boxes packed with meat from a state facility in Cuba’s capital city of Havana. They then went on to sell the food on the street and used the money to buy laptops, TVs, fridges and air conditioners. Authorities did not say when the chicken theft took place, but believe it likely occurred between the hours of midnight and 2am, when they detected fluctuations in the temperature of the cold storage facility....

The Florida Legislature got an unlikely shout-out earlier this month. China Weekly, a Chinese language publication, mentioned a Florida bill that would ban the sale and manufacturing of cultivated meat, also sometimes referred to as lab-grown meat. If the bill passes, Florida would be the first state to ban the sale of cultivated meat. The industry worries Florida’s action could cause other states to follow suit. A lawmaker in Alabama has proposed a similar ban, and bills in New Hampshire, Oklahoma and Iowa would impose other restrictions on these products.

Former President Donald Trump tipped the scales in the U.S. Senate race in Montana on Friday, endorsing retired U.S. Navy SEAL and businessman Tim Sheehy on the same day that Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT) announced that he was getting in the race. “I LOVE MONTANA! Tim Sheehy is an American Hero and highly successful Businessman from the Great State of Montana,” Trump posted on social media. “He is strongly supported by our incredible Chairman of the NRSC, Steve Daines, and many other patriotic Senators and Republicans who have endorsed our Campaign to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! I also respect Matt...

The 3D-printed reproduction of the Assyrian statue was previously displayed at the Colosseum in Rome and the Unesco headquarters in ParisItaly has donated a reconstructed Assyrian statue to Iraq in what has been described as a “miracle of Italian cultural diplomacy”. Constructed in the ninth century BC, the 5m-tall Bull of Nimrud was destroyed by Isis fighters in 2015, before Italian artisans made a copy of the monument using 3D-printing technology. The replica, which was previously displayed at the Colosseum in Rome and the Unesco headquarters in Paris, has now been permanently relocated outside the entrance to the Basrah Museum....

The site was the burial ground for some of Roman London’s first denizens.Archaeologists digging in London’s financial district have discovered what they think to be the first complete Roman funerary bed ever to be uncovered in Britain. The site, which holds remains of 2,000 years of the history of London, has turned up no fewer than five rare Roman oak coffins. The new finds, uncovered near the Holborn Viaduct, a 19th-century road bridge, date from about 43-410 C.E. The earth below London has only ever yielded three well-preserved Roman timber coffins, say the experts at the Museum of London Archaeology...

...Nikolaj Arcel’s “The Promised Land,” Denmark’s submission for the foreign-language Oscar, has everything you want in an epic film: struggle, romance, period detail, violence, great acting, atmosphere, unforgettable images, a hero played by the great Mads Mikkelsen, a despicable villain and German potatoes. In yet another awards-worthy performance, Mikkelsen plays Ludvig von Kahlen, the 18th century bastard son of a maid and a land owner, who was sent off to the German army as a boy. Having returned to his native Denmark in 1755, Captain von Kahlen (Mikkelsen) has a plan to work the non-arable soil of the Danish “heath”...

WASHINGTON — Aides have President Joe Biden take the shorter stairs to board Air Force One. When it comes to news conferences, they yell loudly — and quickly — to end the questions, sometimes stealing a classic awards show tactic and playing loud music to signal the conclusion of the event. And forget about regular interviews with major news publications, including a traditional presidential sit-down on Super Bowl Sunday.Over the years, some of Biden’s key aides have gone from letting “Joe be Joe” to wrapping a presidential cocoon around him that is intended to shield him from verbal slips and...

Of all people? Israel haters should clear the name of the UN terror agency. The UNRWA aid organization employs 13,000 people in Gaza alone - including Palestinians with terrorist connections By: BJÖRN STRITZEL February 6, 2024 - 8:50 p.m And this is supposed to be an independent audit? The Palestinian aid agency UNRWA is facing a problem: several of its employees took part in the Hamas-led pogrom in October in which 1,200 Israelis were murdered. Important donor countries, including Germany, then announced that they would not approve the next payment to UNRWA until the incidents had been clarified. UNRWA Director...

The Israeli Defense Forces say they have discovered a tunnel network that runs partly under UNRWA's Gaza headquarters. According to Reuters, the IDF says that this is evidence that Hamas has been exploiting the main relief agency for Palestinians amid the war. Last month, Israel initially accused 12 U.N. Relief and Works Agency staffers of participating in the Oct. 7 massacre. In response, multiple countries, including the United States, cut funding to UNRWA, at least temporarily. The IDF reports that the tunnel is 700 metres long with side rooms and an office space. “Everything is conducted from here," an IDF...

There are few roles in Hollywood more coveted than 007. Since the character of James Bond was first adapted to film in the 1960s, it has been taken on by six separate actors, each of them donning suits and a smirk to embody the man Ian Fleming created. Each time an actor announces their departure from the role, audiences speculate and actors hope that it might be their turn, but not Michael Caine. It’s perhaps unsurprising that Caine was once considered for the role. The man is a certified national treasure, the consistency of his Cockney accent and commanding presence...

The rise of the administrative state and inverse totalitarianismThe State Department is censoring and limiting the circulation of disfavored press outlets.According to a new lawsuit filed in December on behalf of two media organizations, those being The Daily Wire and The Federalist, as well as the State of Texas and AG Ken Paxton versus the U.S. Department of State (the State Department) through its Global Engagement Center (GEC) and various US government officials, it is alleged that the defendants are actively intervening in the news-media market to both censor and limit the circulation of disfavored press outlets. These illegal activities...

Democratic Washington Gov. Jay Inslee signed one of the nation’s most restrictive gun laws in 2023, and now highway shootings are surging in the state. Over 50 models of guns are banned under the legislation, including popular rifles such as AR-15s and M-16s, and the Democratic Legislature wants to crack down further with several more gun control bills in the body. The state is now seeing a surge in highway shootings, with more than a dozen reported on state highways since the beginning of the year, according to KOMO News. There have been over 190 reported “shooting incidents” in the...

@BasedMikeLee I just finished speaking for four hours on the Senate floor, offering amendment after amendment to the Ukraine bill. After promising a “fair and open” amendment process, Democrats objected to every one of my half-dozen attempts to make my common-sense amendments pending. From real border-security protections to measures to prevent non-citizens from voting in federal elections to a measure preventing U.S. funds from flowing to Hamas to restrictions on paying the salaries of Ukrainian bureaucrats (among other amendments), Democrats refused to let the Senate consider my proposed changes. Their reasoning in essence: “Republicans had their chance, but lost their...

Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower was the first NATO supreme veallied commander. Shortly after assuming that post, he wrote these words in February 1951: “If in 10 years, all American troops stationed in Europe for national defense purposes have not been returned to the United States, then this whole project [NATO] will have failed.” One can only wonder at his reaction today if he learned that 46 years later, the United States was the dominant force in a plan not just to continue our powerful military presence there but to enlarge NATO’s responsibilities and increase U.S. costs and risks in Europe....
