Another member of Congress has called on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to challenge former President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination. This time it is Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie. Endorsements are not unusual, but the move by Massie could undercut recent Trump attacks that DeSantis was once a “disciple” of “RINO loser” former House Speaker Paul Ryan. The most outspoken libertarian in the House, it was Massie, not Trump, who opposed Ryan. He was the only Republican to vote against him for speaker, a move Massie worried “would attract the wrath of President Trump” because, at the time, “that’s how...

Conservatives on Twitter ripped into Vice President Kamala Harris this weekend after she made a "loud" and impassioned speech in Nashville, condemning Tennessee Republicans for silencing their political opposition by voting to expel Democrats from the state legislature. In response to the vote that led to the expulsion of two state representatives from the legislature – and the near expulsion of a third – Harris gave a speech at church in the state Friday, accusing the GOP-majority governing body of trashing Democracy by silencing the lawmakers and the voters they represent. GOP state leaders, like Tennessee Republican Caucus Chair, Rep....

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis's stalling 2024 campaign has been hit by a triple threat - his perceived coldness, fundraising issues - and a resurgent Donald Trump. While DeSantis is still widely-hailed as an exceptionally-capable lawmaker, his apparent inability to connect with voters on the campaign trail outside Florida has some GOP bigwigs wondering if he has the sparkle necessary to win a presidential race. Longtime Republican strategist Mike Murphy is among those fearful over the Florida governor's struggles with so-called 'grip-and-grin' politics.

Como, Italy—In the façade of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, better known as the Como Cathedral, are statues depicting various saints, the Virgin Mary, and the Archangel Gabriel. Also displayed among them, though, is the figure of a Roman official famous for his role in establishing the empire’s policy of persecution against the Christian church. Not long after being appointed governor over the province of Bithynia-Pontus, in modern-day Turkey, Pliny the Younger wrote to the Emperor Trajan about the growing problem of a new religious sect known as Christians. He put a series of questions to Trajan about their...

As the Biden administration races to investigate a leak of classified U.S. documents, Washington and Jerusalem are remaining silent about a particularly sensitive disclosure within the trove of files - an alleged revolt by Israel's top spy service against the judicial overhaul proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Mrs Patrick Campbell, died on this date in 1940. A Grand Dame of English and American Theater. Mrs Pat had a physically unconsummated love affair by letter with George Bernard Shaw. She wrote to him: “Oh dear me — it’s too late to do anything but accept you and love you — but when you were quite a little boy, somebody ought to have said “HUSH” just once!” She co-starred with Norma Shearer in “Riptide” and with Peter Lorre in “Crime And Punishment”. What a woman !

Following a Mediterranean-based ketogenic diet may decrease the risk of Alzheimer's disease, according to a study. Researchers compared a low-fat diet with a diet consisting of healthy fats/protein and low carbohydrates—the modified Mediterranean ketogenetic diet—and found that the modified diet showed robust changes in a biological pathway that is linked to Alzheimer's disease. This builds upon previous research showing that a modified ketogenic diet may prove beneficial in the prevention of cognitive decline. The randomized, single-site study involved 20 adults, nine diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and 11 with normal cognition. These participants were randomly assigned to follow either...

I recently reviewed the results of the mayoral election in Chicago, which appear to have sounded the death knell for America’s third-largest city. The buildings will remain and the people without the means to escape will still huddle in their homes (at least those who have homes), hoping to avoid being the next statistic in a crime wave that shows no signs of abating. Commerce has slowed to a crawl and its once-famous entertainment district is now too dangerous for most to risk an evening out on the town. At the Washington Examiner, Stephen Moore takes a similarly dim view...

California Governor Gavin Newsom has made a name for himself meddling in other states’ affairs and issuing sweeping proclamations on Twitter. Earlier this month, the exquisitely coiffed pol decided to punish major retailer Walgreens for deciding not to distribute abortion medication in 20 states. The chain was under intense pressure from anti-abortion lawmakers across the country and a changing legal environment after the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v Wade. How dare they! Abortion extremist Newsom was infuriated:California won't be doing business with @walgreens — or any company that cowers to the extremists and puts women's lives at risk. We're done.https://t.co/OB10cYfm8H— Gavin...

Riley Gaines is a spectacular athlete, a 12-time All-American swimmer, and on Thursday she went to San Francisco State to talk about saving women’s sports. She has become more known beyond sports for speaking out about having to compete against Lia Thomas, a biological man, in competition. But as we reported, this woman was assaulted by a rioting mob at SFSU, screaming “Trans rights are human rights” and “trans women are women.” She was effectively held hostage for hours because they wanted to shut down her speech. The prisoners are running the asylum at SFSU…I was ambushed and physically hit twice by...

An estimated 3.5 million people voted in the Georgia Senate runoff election. State Voices, a leftist nonprofit, claimed that it had made 3 million voter contacts for the runoff. ProGeorgia, the local partner for State Voices, bragged of having conducted “31,000 face-to-face conversations, 10 million texts, and 133,000 phone conversations” and of registering “tens of thousands for the midterm election” so that “voters of color turned out in early voting at higher levels than their white counterparts”. Such an outcome was inherently partisan and could and only did benefit one particular party: the Democrats. While such claims are commonplace among...

IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel on Thursday provided details about plans to hire armed agents in the agency’s criminal investigations division, amid Republican concerns about a proliferation of gun-toting tax enforcers. Werfel said in a call with reporters that the share of staff working in the IRS Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) unit would not climb above the current level of around 2.6 percent of the IRS’s overall workforce. There are “no plans to increase” the hiring rate at the IRS-CI unit, Werfel said on the call. “That will stay at its current rate.”The IRS-CI examines potential criminal activity related to tax crimes and...

McDonald’s Corp.’s restructuring this week is reaching company wide, resulting in hundreds of layoffs and for some employees reductions in their packages, according to people familiar with the matter. Job cuts and changes at the burger chain have affected employees in the U.S. and abroad, at McDonald’s Chicago headquarters and in its field offices, and across departments including marketing and operations, the people said. The corporate restructuring has unfolded in a multipart process this week, some of the people said and internal company communications showed. McDonald’s temporarily closed its U.S. offices and started informing some corporate employees about layoffs on...

On Thursday, left-wing website ProPublica published a hit piece on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas alleging that his repeated vacationing with a personal friend over the years violated judicial ethics and financial disclosure requirements, prompting Democrats to feign outrage and call for his impeachment. The allegations are weak and will, of course, go nowhere. But it’s curious that this hit piece came out mere days after we learned that Acting New York County Supreme Court Justice Juan Manuel Merchan, who is overseeing President Donald Trump’s criminal case in New York, donated to Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign. And not only...

Now that the US 2024 presidential campaign...the next political upheaval...is on deck, warming up for January, 2025. Can we make some fun out of something that's terrifyingly serious and real? We've all (the whole bloody modern world) has already seen what crisis' have happened in a mere 4 years: 1) COVID19 made from a US FUNDED covid lab in Wuhan, China and unleashed to the world. 2) Democrat endorsed and funded race riots just in time for the 2020 election. 3) Democrat funded BLM on point for all of it. 3) Same thing with antifa. 4) Financial crisis with inflation...

On this date in 1818, Andrew Jackson had two Creek leaders summarily hanged in Florida. The Creek in the American Southeast were a longtime thorn in the side of the young United States, and Andrew Jackson personally; Old Hickory was one of the chief American commanders in the Creek War several years before, a sort of subplot of the War of 1812 with Creek throughout the Gulf Coast aligning themselves with the British against American colonists. One source of inspiration: the mighty Tecumseh, who assembled an ambitious native Confederacy to check Europeans’ advance. Although centered in the Great Lakes area,...
