NEW YORK – Moving factories from China to Mexico is one of the few hot topics in an otherwise listless market, US investment bankers say. As American hostility to China rises, US corporations scramble to assure the public as well as inquisitive congressional committees that they are moving operations out of the Middle Kingdom to friendlier venues. It’s all a pantomime for political consumption. US imports from Mexico, Vietnam, India and other “friend-shoring” venues depend on imports of Chinese components, according to an Asia Times study of international trade data. China’s exports to non-Japan Asia and Latin America are booming,...

Nearly 50% of all global assets are now held in shadow banks, according to the IMF. These institutions, also called non-bank financial intermediaries (NBFIs), include pension funds, insurers, hedge funds, private equity funds, structured investment vehicles (SIVs), limited-purpose finance companies (LPFCs), and numerous other entities—each with their own acronym. Shadow banks are often the under-regulated middle men of the financial system, and they’re growing in number. For nearly a decade now, Federal Reserve officials have repeatedly warned about the hidden dangers present in these shadow banks. And it’s not just U.S. regulators that have expressed concern—from Ireland to China, the...

Republican lawmakers in Tennessee advanced a bill through a House committee on Wednesday that would allow teachers to carry firearms in their classrooms – a move being criticized by Democrats, civil rights leaders and gun safety advocates as tone deaf in the wake of a shooting last week at a Nashville elementary school that killed three 9-year-olds and three school staff members. “Our community is still grieving last week’s mass shooting at Covenant elementary that took 6 lives – their solution is more guns,” said Democratic Rep. Justin Jones, who represents parts of Nashville. “Shameful.” Jones is one of three...

Now that the trans activists have told us what an awful provocation our beliefs have become to their way of life, maybe the time has come for us to just go ahead and cancel Christianity altogether. Mightn’t that be the right thing to do in the interest of keeping our children safe? How else are we to ensure the goodwill of our LGBTQI+ neighbors if we’re not willing to dismantle the very structures that are so oppressive to them? We certainly don’t wish to continue driving them to the extremity of trying to kill us, do we?

Covid's natural origin theory was today seemingly dealt a huge blow — by China's very own scientists. In a fresh twist to the never-ending saga, Beijing-affiliated researchers ruled there was no proof to definitively say the virus jumped from animals to humans at a now-infamous market in Wuhan. Swathes of patients struck down at the start of the pandemic visited or had links to its stalls, which sold bats, raccoon dogs, pangolins and other exotic species either proven to harbour similar coronaviruses or thought to.

Meduza has obtained a copy of a pamphlet that was written by Russia’s military leadership shortly after the army’s retreat from Kherson in fall 2022. The document, which the military has begun issuing to Russian soldiers upon deployment to Ukraine, reiterates Moscow’s ideological justification for the war, condemns the Kherson retreat as a “shameful surrender,” and draws extensively from Joseph Stalin’s infamous Order No. 227, where the Soviet dictator called for “alarmists and cowards” to be “annihilated” on the spot. In English, Meduza summarizes the booklet and what we know about its origins.‘This is Goebbels stuff’In the fall of 2022,...
