Two weeks after a missile strike killed dozens of freshly mobilized Russians at a makeshift barracks in eastern Ukraine, many back home in Russia are still seeking an answer to the question: Are their relatives alive or dead? One 36-year-old woman, searching for her cousin, who served in one of the regiments housed at the barracks, said the recruiting office told her he was doing his duty. “Wait for news,” she said she was told. Now she is calling hospitals asking whether her relative turned up there. Yet the New Year’s Day strike in the Russian-occupied city of Makiivka that...

EMERGENCY crews had to smash down the wall of a flat during a 17-hour bid to rescue a 50st heart attack victim. They then built a ramp to get him out his first-floor council pad in an estimated £10,000 operation. Among those there were more than 25 firefighters, 15 paramedics, five cops and an urban search and rescue team — who normally deal with earthquakes. Council officials were also on hand to survey damage to the block in Acton, West London, which is home to more than 40 residents. The operation began with a 999 call at 2am on Friday....

The UK government has blocked a new law intended to allowed trans people in Scotland to change their legal gender without a medical diagnosis – a controversial move that has added fuel to the already highly emotional debate over Scottish independence. I-RECOVER Post-Vaccine Treatment ProtocolDownload Treatment Protocol Summary PDFDownload Treatment Protocol Clinical Companion PDFPost-vaccine syndrome is a complex disease. Early treatment is essential; the response to treatment will likely be weaker when treatment is delayed. This document is designed for healthcare providers caring for patients with symptoms following a COVID injection. While a handful of the therapies can be self-administered, we strongly recommend that patients consult with a healthcare provider before beginning any new treatment. (To find a provider, consult...

North Carolina’s Division of Motor Vehicles has now OK’d more than 200 phrases that had been blocked from being affixed to vanity license plates, including some related to sexual orientation. Among the terms removed from the DMV’s extensive do-not-issue list for personalized plates following a review late last year were “GAYPRIDE,” “LESBIAN” and “QUEER,” WFDD-FM reported. Such entries prompted DMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin to launch a formal review of the list — containing over 9,000 items — for the first time in its two-decade history, according to the radio station. “Anything on the do-not-issue list should not include the LGBT...

I just bought a new Harley. It is so beautiful. I love it so much. I am thinking of going to Bike Week in Daytona in March, driving in the AM from Orlando. Anyone even been there before? Anyone going again this year? Was it cancelled last year and/or the year before?

Dear Quentin, I find myself facing an issue that is rather complex, and I am not sure what to do. I live with two roommates, and during the pandemic we didn’t pay any utility bills thanks to a moratorium that allowed us to amass debt with no interest. We split the electric bill equally, but it’s in my name only. The rub is that we are all moving out in February, and per our moratorium agreement, we’re not obligated to pay the bill until 2024. I’m concerned that one of my roommates will just drop communication when it comes time...

More than half of trans women who have 'bottom' surgery are in so much pain years later they need medical attention, a study suggests. Up to a third of patients also struggled to use the toilet or suffered sexual issues 12 months after the operation, which sees patients transitioning from male to female given a surgically constructed vagina.

By now, I’m sure you’ve seen it. The new Boston sculpture “honoring” Dr. Martin Luther King and his wife, Coretta Scott King, looks more like a pair of hands hugging a beefy penis than a special moment shared by the iconic couple. Created by the organization Embrace Boston, the sculpture has inspired mad jokes on Twitter, and rightly so. But for my family, it’s rather insulting. You see, Coretta was my first cousin, my grandfather’s niece, and the daughter of my great uncle Obediah Scott. Martin married up. Coretta came from a distinguished family, with a significant legacy in her...

NATIONAL FIG NEWTON DAY National Fig Newton Day on January 16th annually recognizes a tasty pastry enjoyed across the country. #NationalFigNewtonDay A Nabisco’s trademarked version of the fig roll, Newtons are a pastry filled with fig paste. NATIONAL NOTHING DAY Each year on January 16th, people across the nation recognize National Nothing Day. #NationalNothingDay The observance was created as a day to provide Americans with one National Day when they can just sit without celebrating, observing or honoring anything. (National Day Calendar only reports the Days, sometimes they may contradict themselves.) Martin Luther King Jr. Day falls on the third Monday of January which means that one-in-seven January 16th’s will fall on the same day as Nothing Day, effectively usurping the nature of Nothing Day. While it may be a good day to celebrate nothing at all,...
