"When we look at the rise of Mycenaean civilization, the ancient DNA supports the notion that it was a local phenomenon, not something imported from the outside," said co-author Jack Davis, a UC Classics professor and department head."The development of the state by the Mycenaean was indigenous to Greece," Davis said.Among the remains studied for ancient DNA analysis was that of the Griffin Warrior, whose tomb was discovered in 2015 by Davis and UC Classics senior research associate Sharon Stocker... under an olive grove in Pylos, a coastal city in southern Greece. A forensic examination determined the remains belonged to...

New COVID-19 booster shots are set to be authorized this week by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and will be available to most Americans before human testing has even been completed. The shots have been modified to target the latest Omicron variant, but won't have finished testing in humans when the FDA makes the decision. Instead, the FDA is relying on data from other sources - like research in mice and older vaccines, the Wall Street Journal reported. 'Real world evidence from the current mRNA Covid-19 vaccines, which have been administered to millions of individuals, show us that the...

Intravenous antibiotic infusions improved his symptoms, O'Rourke said. “While my symptoms have improved, I will be resting at home in El Paso in accordance with the doctors' recommendations,” he said. “I am sorry to have had to postpone events because of this, but (I) promise...

he UK's biggest warship has broken down off the south coast shortly after setting sail on what had been billed as a "landmark mission" to the United States. HMS Prince of Wales, the second of the Royal Navy's two aircraft carriers, was experiencing an "emerging mechanical issue", a spokesperson said. The problem is being investigated. The £3bn carrier, which became fully operational only last year, is reportedly anchored south east of the Isle of Wight while the investigation is carried out. "HMS Prince of Wales remains in the South Coast Exercise Area while conducting investigations into an emerging mechanical issue,"...

Here we go… It was only a matter of time before the DOJ-NSD architects of the Trump targeting operation came out from the shadows. This is the moment long-time readers of CTH should have been waiting for. For the past five years Mary McCord has been one of a small and select lawfare group organizing the targeting of President Trump. Mary McCord led the support team who created the Carter Page FISA warrant using the Steele Dossier to replace the required ‘Wood’s file’. McCord was the DOJ-NSD official who traveled with DOJ Deputy AG Sally Yates to talk to former...

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24 prompted almost immediate predictions from U.S. officials that Kyiv would fall within days, aligning with prior assessments of Moscow’s military prowess and seemingly cementing an inevitable occupation of its former Soviet territory. Six months later, Kyiv remains under the control of the government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and news reports have instead focused this week on Moscow, where a car bomb killed an influential member of Vladimir Putin’s inner circle, shocking top officials in the Kremlin with what they themselves say was a brazen attack orchestrated by Ukraine, however unlikely so. It...

Chaz Andrews has wanted to join the Army since he was 19, but he has failed the service's academic test more than 10 times over the past decade. Now, at age 29, Andrews thinks he has a real shot to pass, thanks to a new Army program that gives lower-performing recruits up to 90 days of academic or fitness instruction to help them meet military standards. “I didn’t want to give up on it,” he said during a recent break in his classroom schedule at Fort Jackson, where he is one of more than 300 recruits who have been allowed...

The state of California has taken a major step toward phasing out gas-powered vehicles, and Massachusetts is following suit. By 2035, all new cars sold in the state must run on electric or hydrogen power, after Governor Baker signed a climate change law earlier this month. The law includes a trigger, according to experts, that says that once California decided to implement zero-emission vehicles, Massachusetts must do the same. Since California made that decision Thursday, regulators here must now begin to work on the details and put auto dealers, along with the public, on notice that the change will be...

The hydrogen fuel cell uses hydrogen and air to generate electricity, producing only heat and water as tailpipe emissions. The reaction occurs across an electrochemical cell similar to a conventional battery cell, causing energy engines used to propel the vehicle forward. Union minister of state for science and technology Dr Jitendra Singhsaid that if a diesel bus is compared to a hydrogen bus, it typically emits 100 tons of co2 per annum on long-distance routes, and there are millions of buses across the country, reports The Times of India. Also, a hydrogen fuel cell truck's operational cost is competitively lower...

(There's no link in the header to a search for "C-Span Populism"; I will put it in a comment in HTML.) As a populist, I learned that elites do have a legitimate interest in avoiding being overwhelmed by the numerically superior common people. But in what I would remark as this highly, technologically "articulated" world (everything like a linked and hinged part in a vastly enormous machine), elites have the unfair advantage of having the power to permanently rig the game. More important to me than Plato's 5 political classes (in the notes below) is the several traditional occupational classes...

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) on Sunday said he is “disappointed” by the heavily redacted FBI affidavit that was used to justify a search of former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, arguing that reviewing it was pointless because the document was “almost all redacted.” Sununu told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union” that he had been “pretty excited to see what might be in this affidavit” until it was released.

It may be one of the most surefire findings in all of social psychology, repeatedly replicated over almost five decades of study: American conservatives say they are much happier than American liberals. They also report greater meaning and purpose in their lives, and higher overall life satisfaction. These links are so solidly evidenced that, for the most part, modern social scientists simply try to explain them. They've put forth numerous possible explanations. There are a couple clear contributors to point out first. Marriage tends to make people happier, and conservatives are more likely to be married. Religious belief is also...
