Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24 prompted almost immediate predictions from U.S. officials that Kyiv would fall within days, aligning with prior assessments of Moscow’s military prowess and seemingly cementing an inevitable occupation of its former Soviet territory.
Six months later, Kyiv remains under the control of the government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and news reports have instead focused this week on Moscow, where a car bomb killed an influential member of Vladimir Putin’s inner circle, shocking top officials in the Kremlin with what they themselves say was a brazen attack orchestrated by Ukraine, however unlikely so. It follows other damning blows against Russia’s offensive, following battlefield retreats, embarrassing strategic failures and most recently a series of mysterious explosions at its military facilities in what it had previously considered safe havens in Crimea.
The story of Ukraine’s survival after half a year of the deadliest fighting in Europe since World War II is one of surprising resilience, an underestimation of its previously degraded military now backed by Western powers, and an overestimation of the military strength of its behemoth neighbor to follow through on a relatively straightforward goal.
Though peace remains troublingly elusive in and around Ukraine, the endurance of Zelenskyy’s government this far has stunned the world, yielding new optimism about its ability to continue.

The article’s date is actually August 26, 2022. Doh!
Looking at the war through American eyes.
If every city and infrastructure is not leveled, they don’t take it seriously.
No one ever claimed or asserted that Nazis’ were not good fighters.
WWII: Nazis’ averaged about 1.5:1 kill ratios to Allied.
Ukraine/Russia conflict: Nazis’ aren’t doing so well. For every Russian killed 5-10 Nazis’ are getting killed. Russian massed artillery ftw.
The RuZZians were warned the insurgency would begin and it has. It’d be folly to think the Ukrainians didn’t study guerrilla techniques leading up to this.
Yeah. No.
The areas which Russia occupies is nearly all ethnic Russian or supports Russia.
The Donbas militias are nearly 100,000 strong. There are dozens of videos showing the population lining the streets of newly liberated cities cheering the Russians.
The Ukrainian military is looked as the brutal occupiers.
This changes west of the Dnieper.
Open your eyes....How dumb do they think we are?
The victorious Ukrainian army in the Donbass is advancing steadily to the Dnepr, and the beaten, rag-tag Russian mob is fleeing in disarray West through Bakhmut, Kramatorsk, Siversk and Peski.
The Ukie political commissars will read this news piece to the newly press-ganged Ukie "recruits" just before they're shoved into the line in front of the Russian guns.
The Soviets used the word "Nazi" to describe anyone in the West who exposed them. So thanks for outing yourself.
The propaganda seems to be on the increase. That can only mean a few hundred million US dollars are needed for Zalensky’s retirement and the Biden’ slush fund.
A. Serious miscalculation
I’m gonna level with you - if you support putin and his genocide, you are dumber than a sack of hammers, and no amount of FSB propaganda bullshit will convince me otherwise. I wouldn’t trust you to pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel.
Any big words you need me to explain?
Only idiot, and you certainly one, can't look at all the areas the Russians have liberated and claim they aren't winning.
The Russians merely wanted the Minsk Agreement implemented and some autonomy for Donetsk and Lugansk when they came to us an effort to avoid this war.
Now, they control most of the Black Sea and the Kherson region. They will continue on and control everything east of the Dnieper river and the entire Black Seas coastline. Nothing will stop that.
you neocon warmonger trolls are sure working overtime today.
hope u get paid extra for such extreme BS
Not the Ukrainians - US troops are all over the place over there.
And those areas will always have conflicts zones of one nature or another - thus preventing Ukraine from ever joining Nato.
Putins creating his landbridge and he will defend that without question.
