Pact between Marcos, Duterte families shaped the vote Bongbong' Marcos didn't just win the presidential election in the Philippines this week. He won it by a two-to-one landslide, despite the fact that he is the extremely entitled son of a former president who stole at least ten billion dollars and a mother who spent the loot partly on the world's most extensive collection of designer shoes (3,000 pairs). Moreover, Ferdinand Marcos Jr, to give him his real name, has virtually no accomplishments other than that name. Yet his name and his inherited wealth, originally stolen from the parents of the...

Abortion has been at the forefront of American politics for 50 years, ever since the Supreme Court chose to nationalize the issue in Roe v. Wade, declaring that the federal government, as constructed by the Constitution, did indeed have a role to play in the question. The Court, as expressed by Associate Justice Harry Blackmun, determined that state laws against abortion may conflict with an expectant mother’s Constitutional “right to privacy” – a concept not actually found anywhere in the Constitution, but created for Griswold v. Connecticut in 1965. Under Roe v. Wade, the federal government can therefore split a...

Pope Francis has betrayed Cardinal ZenWhen Cardinal Joseph Zen, the 90-year-old former Bishop of Hong Kong, was arrested by Chinese authorities on Wednesday and charged with ‘collusion with foreign forces’, the White House called for his immediate release. Lord Patten of Barnes, the last British governor of Hong Kong, said the arrest was ‘yet another outrageous example of how the Chinese Communist Party is hell-bent on turning Hong Kong into a police state.’ Human rights activists lined up to defend the cardinal, who although released on bail faces the prospect of spending his last years in a Chinese jail cell....

As Revolver and others have covered, Nina “Moaning Myrtle” Jankowicz is a joke. The Harry Potter superfan-turned-propagandrix is now the Biden Administration’s chosen head for the “Disinformation Governance Board.” Among many other embarrassing videos in circulation is the following clip of Nina Jankowicz bizarrely and emphatically dismissing the notion of the so-called “deep state.” (snip) Nina Jankowicz’s name appears in a 2018 leak as a member of the “inner core” of the Integrity Initiative’s U.K. Cluster, specifically in the sub-group dedicated to Russia.Another name that appears alongside Nina Jankowicz’s in the leaked documents as a member of the “inner core”...

Since the CCP initiated its ‘Zero Covid’ policy several months ago, millions of Chinese civilians have endured immense suffering.China’s ruling communist party (CCP) recently announced it is doubling down on its “Zero Covid” strategy, wherein it is forcibly locking down and oppressing millions of Chinese citizens with the ostensible goal of completely stamping out the respiratory virus. A little over a week ago, members of the CCP’s ruling Politburo Standing Committee held a meeting in which party leadership reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the government’s current lockdown policies in major cities like Shanghai. According to a report from the China...

President helping determine movement of Russian soldiers, say sources, as head of UK armed forces says Ukraine is winning. Vladimir Putin has become so personally involved in the Ukraine war that he is making operational and tactical decisions “at the level of a colonel or brigadier”, according to western military sources. The Russian president is helping determine the movement of forces in the Donbas, they added, where last week the invaders suffered a bloody defeat as they tried on multiple occasions to cross a strategic river in the east of Ukraine. The sources added that Putin is still working closely...

The war between Russia and Ukraine is following a trajectory that is perfectly in line with NATO’s, or rather the Anglo-American world’s, expectations. It is clear that this war has been brewing for quite some time – the start perhaps dates back all the way to the Barack Obama era. Considering it on a continental plane, the war will include an Atlantic-Pacific showdown. This showdown is progressing not directly and all at once, but gradually. There are two simultaneous objectives in the first stage. Accordingly, the Anglo-Saxon bloc planned and programmed to divide from Eurasia continental Europe, which is thought...

While Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks has been holding “Fire McConnell” town halls on his statewide U.S. Senate campaign, the Republican leader in the Senate apparently wants to make sure Alabama voters don’t hire Brooks. A super PAC affiliated with Mitch McConnell, the Kentucky senator and north Alabama native expected to be restored as majority leader if Republicans win control of the Senate in November, has contributed $2 million to a super PAC opposing Brooks’ election while also supporting one of his opponents, former Sen. Richard Shelby Chief of Staff Katie Britt.

The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has said he will not approve Finland and Sweden joining Nato. Reuters is reporting he has said Swedish and Finnish delegrations should not bother coming to Turkey to convince Turkey to approve their Nato bids. Finland and Sweden, while both Nato partners, have long viewed membership as an unnecessary provocation of Russia, their powerful eastern neighbour. Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, however, has led to a radical rethink of their security policies. Membership of Nato would require ratification by all existing members.

Almost two months after Europe rushed to declare it would impose unprecedented sanctions on Russia in response to Putin’s invasion of Ukraine with no regard for how such sanctions would boomerang and cripple its own economies, the old continent which was and still remains hostage to Russian energy exports, is finally grasping the underlying math which was all too clear to Vladimir Putin long ago. According to new projections from the European Commission, the euro area’s pandemic recovery would grind to a halt, while prices would surge even more quickly if there are serious disruptions to natural-gas supplies from Russia....

Bruno Silva made his way across the muddy Rio Grande along the Mexican border with El Paso, 11-month-old Maria perched on his shoulders. An exhausted Shyrley Oliveira staggered behind. They looked like just another family of migrants crossing to the U.S., Ms. Oliveira said, recalling the journey from Brazil she made at age 18 in 2019. Although Ms. Oliveira is Maria’s mother, Mr. Silva wasn’t her father. In fact, he had only gotten to know Ms. Oliveira a few weeks earlier as part of what authorities call a child-renting scam that has been used by some Brazilians fleeing poverty to...

What are the possible outcomes of the Ukraine war? Russian Withdrawal: Russia could decide to cut its losses and abandon the fight in Ukraine. It is unlikely that the current Russian leadership will do so, but there is no guarantee that Vladimir Putin will remain Russia’s leader. If there is an internal upheaval in the Kremlin, then a new leader, even if a hardliner, could decide to pull out, blame the debacle on Putin, and, as they say, rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. Go All Out: A second, dreadful possibility is that the Russians, who anyway think they...

Manhattan Reps. Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney, both Congressional stalwarts for a generation, will face each other in a Democratic primary this summer after redrawn maps put the two in the same district.Nadler has been in Congress since 1992, and currently represents the 10th District; Maloney has served since 1993 and is the incumbent in the 12th District. The state's congressional primary is expected Aug. 23. It was postponed after a judge threw out maps drawn by a redistricting commission and assigned the task to a special master. A draft of that special master's maps came out Monday morning, showing...
