A rare manuscript by theoretical physicist Albert Einstein goes under the hammer in Paris on Tuesday, with auctioneers aiming for a stratospheric price tag. The manuscript, containing preparatory work for Einstein's key achievement the theory of relativity, is estimated at between two and three million euros (2.3-3.4 million), according to Christie's which is hosting the sale on behalf of the Aguttes auction house. "This is without a doubt the most valuable Einstein manuscript ever to come to auction," Christie's said in a statement. The 54-page document was handwritten in 1913 and 1914 in Zurich, Switzerland, by Einstein and his colleague...

Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis will act as governor while Newsom is out of the state, as required by the state constitution. This is why the Governor’s Office usually announces anytime Newsom leaves the state, even if just for a few hours. That’s one reason why Newsom was widely criticized earlier this month for not disclosing his whereabouts for more than a week. Newsom had been scheduled to attend an international climate conference in Scotland. But he withdrew at the last minute, citing “family obligations.” That marked a 12-day stretch where Newsom held no public events. His office would not say...

Context matters. When Abraham Lincoln said during the Gettysburg address that the founding fathers were "dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal," the context of where and when he was speaking is important. The same goes for when Martin Luther King Jr. said, "I have a dream," and when Ronald Reagan said, "Tear down this wall." For all of them, their message was specific to the time, place, and audience.

Two Catholic bishops defended their decision to refuse Communion to U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, saying his persistent support for the killing of unborn babies in abortions puts him “outside of Communion with God.” Durbin, a pro-abortion Democrat from Illinois, recently complained that his home diocese, the Diocese of Springfield, is being “fundamentally unfair” in an interview with America Magazine. He said he found another diocese that will give him Communion. This week, Springfield Bishop Thomas John Paprocki and the Most Rev. Kevin W. Vann, a bishop and former priest in Springfield, responded to the senator’s complaint in a letter to...

Afederal judge knocked former President Trump on Monday for his repeated claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen, arguing that former Vice President Al Gore "was a man" and accepted his election loss in 2000. "Al Gore had a better case to argue than Mr. Trump and he was a man about what happened to him," Senior U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton said, according to CNN. "He accepted it and walked away." Walton was referring to Gore's decision to concede the race to President George W. Bush after weeks of legal battles, which were triggered due to an extremely...

BOSTON (AP) — Gun manufacturers asked a federal court in Massachusetts on Monday to dismiss a lawsuit filed by Mexico’s government in August arguing that U.S. gun manufacturers and distributors fueled violence in Mexico through their negligent and illegal commercial practices. Gun maker Beretta U.S.A. Corp. argued there is no basis for the court to exercise jurisdiction over Beretta in the case. “Plaintiff is the government of Mexico. Beretta is a Maryland corporation with its corporate home, headquarters, and principal place of business in Maryland. And the harm for which Plaintiff seeks redress all occurred in Mexico,” the company wrote...

Cookbook author Jake Cohen says it’s terrifying to be an “outward-facing, proud Jew in America” right now. The up-and-coming foodie, who boasts over 600,000 Instagram followers, revealed that he’s been on the receiving end of some unpleasant glares as he travelled around the country promoting his cookbook, “Jew-ish: A Cookbook: Reinvented Recipes from a Modern Mensch.” “You go to places and people’s eyes go straight to my Star of David,” the 27-year-old told Page Six recently. “It’s uncomfortable. I’ve been very lucky to not have a real instance of true harm. I think part of that is due to the...

Western culture is built on foundational myths, many from the ancient Greeks, who built an amazing collection of stories to explain who we are and why we think and feel the way we do. That is, they contain the seeds of modern psychology, which may be why two of the founders of psychology — Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung — often used Greek myths to illustrate the concepts about the mind they were exploring. Creating a brand is fundamentally about understanding what makes consumers tick — knowing where the buttons are that tap into our unconscious so that we identify...

And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LordGod of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word. And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there. So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he...

This was posted to FreeRepublic the day we got attacked on 9/11. Everyone was into the attack, so this article got little headway. Only 5 freepers commented, and I am sure not many even read it. Yet when we consider today's situation with China, this was a HUGE story that we can now look back on and just wonder, "What If?" Many here will remember that the author, Howard Phillips, was a long time conservative activist who founded the Conservative Caucus and the Constitution Party. He passed away back in 2013. Long before Bush left office Howard was warning us...

A Swiss human experimenter, a Hungarian Nazi collaborator, and an Iranian tech tycoon walk into Washington D.C. What do you call them? The absentee owners of the Democrat Party. It’s not a joke. Unfortunately it’s grimly serious. Politico recently reported that the Sixteen Thirty Fund, the leading dark money machine of the Left, had pumped $410 million into Dem 2020 efforts to defeat Trump and Republicans. The Sixteen Thirty Fund had raised a record $390 million that year and half the money came from just 4 donors. While the names of the donors are secret, the article did note the...

THE SIGHT of 40,000 unvaccinated Austrians marching through their capital, Vienna, in recent days was troubling twice over. The tightly packed opponents of pandemic lockdown measures were at risk of spreading the coronavirus. They also threatened to stir up an already tense political situation. Karl Nehammer, Austria’s interior minister, warned that anti-vaxxers in the Alpine republic are growing ever more radicalised. He called their demonstration “incensed” and “aggressive”. Some protesters were provocative in the extreme, carrying placards likening Alexander Schallenberg, Austria’s new chancellor, to Josef Mengele, the sadistic physician at the Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz. A few wore Judensterne,...
