The mayor of Seattle is facing major backlash after offering big hiring bonuses to incoming police officers to make up for staff shortages. Democrat Mayor Jenny Durkan issued an executive order Friday, granting bonuses for new hires up to $25,000 depending on their experience and skill levels. However, the police union fired back at Durkan for the move while suggesting the city betrayed its loyal police officers after violent protests over the death of George Floyd. The union added, the staff shortage was caused by the ‘defund the police’ movement and worsened by the city’s vaccine mandate.

The current fad apparently stems from a belief that a round head is more beautiful. Because babies have soft bones, parents are using a variety of “head-shape correction” products like pillows, helmets and mats to mold their heads into a round shape, the South China Morning Post reported Friday. Virginia’s Democrat gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe abruptly canceled his event in Virginia Beach the day before the election, sparking further speculation on the degree of behind the scenes panic within the McAuliffe campaign less than 24 hours before polls open. McAuliffe, who spent the weekend campaigning in Northern Virginia, and his Republican challenger Glenn Youngkin, who has been surging in the polls in the race’s final stretch, had events scheduled in Virginia Beach on Monday.
