Here in Dallas Cowboys country, where I live, anticipation is building. Has quarterback Dak Prescott healed sufficiently to bring the promise of playoff hopes back to the franchise? Prescott's first duel will be against Tom Brady, as the Cowboys travel to Tampa Bay Thursday night to kick off the 2021 NFL season. We are not out of the COVID woods yet, but actual fans will be in the stands as the season begins—a welcome prospect after last year's eerie, empty stadiums. The Cowboys have enjoyed a particular visibility boost in the preseason as the subject of this year's HBO Hard...

The Taliban has quickly moved to halt and roll back progress made by women in Afghanistan and as part of their attack on women’s rights, the radical Islamic group is now banning women from participating in sports, according to reports. Deputy head of the Taliban’s cultural commission, Ahmadullah Wasiq, announced the new law to the Australian broadcaster SBS. “I don’t think women will be allowed to play cricket because it is not necessary that women should play cricket,” Wasiq said. “In cricket, they might face a situation where their face and body will not be covered. Islam does not allow...

Explanation: What surrounds the Andromeda galaxy? Out in space, Andromeda (M31) is closely surrounded by several small satellite galaxies, and further out it is part of the Local Group of Galaxies -- of which our Milky Way galaxy is also a member. On the sky, however, gas clouds local to our Milky Way appear to surround M31 -- not unlike how water clouds in Earth's atmosphere may appear to encompass our Moon. The gas clouds toward Andromeda, however, are usually too faint to see. Enter the featured 45-degree long image -- one of the deeper images yet taken of the...

United Airlines told its staff on Wednesday that those who are granted religious exemptions from getting vaccinated against the coronavirus will be placed on a temporary unpaid leave, CNBC reported. Employees were given until five weeks after the Pfizer vaccine was granted full approval or until Oct. 25 to present proof of being fully vaccinated. As the Food and Drug Administration granted the Pfizer vaccine full approval on Aug. 23, employees will have until Sept. 27 to get fully vaccinated. "We have no...

With six days to go until ballots are due, Vice President Kamala Harris returned to the Bay Area Wednesday afternoon to stump for Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom ahead of Tuesday's recall election. Newsom is facing a two-part question on next week's recall ballot: whether voters would like to recall him and who they would like to replace him with. Harris, who appeared with Newsom before President Joe Biden is set to do so next week, told the crowd at a rally with union workers that helping get out the vote for the governor was a priority. "I came home for...

Talk show host and recall candidate Larry Elder was attacked by several protestors with eggs while walking through the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles on Wednesday. The Elder campaign had just begun their final leg of their campaign by instituting a statewide “Recall Express” bus tour on Tuesday, with stops in Los Angeles, Venice, Northridge, and Santa Barbara scheduled on Wednesday. His Venice stop was across from the Gold’s Gym, a popular campaign stop for many politicians due to it’s vicinity to many large homeless encampments in the area and many services catering to low-income and homeless people. In the...

So much taxpayer money was handed out as part of the emergency "American Rescue Plan," agencies and communities are scrambling to figure out ways to spend it all. In some cases the spending of the $1.9 trillion ($1,900,000,000,000) has little to do with Covid-19. In other cases, it expands government bureaucracy and rewards its bureaucrats over citizens. CDC has just announced a massive spending effort with money from the American Rescue Plan that includes spending $400,000,000 tax dollars to support "recruitment, training, and development or a new generation of public health leaders" in partnership with another federal agency: AmeriCorps. n...

EXCLUSIVE - The former U.S. Army major and self-described “soldier of Allah” behind the deadly 2009 massacre at Fort Hood cheered the resurgent Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in a letter obtained exclusively by the Washington Examiner. Writing from death row at Fort Leavenworth, Nidal Hasan boasted “We Have Won” and congratulated the Taliban. Hasan, who gunned down 14 people and wounded 43 more, urged the nascent terrorist government to implement its brand of brutal oppression under the guise of religion. “Congratulations on your victory over those who hate for the Laws of All-Mighty God to be supreme on the land,”...

President Joe Biden’s approval rating has collapsed to 39 percent, the lowest point of his presidency, according to a Wednesday Economist/YouGov poll. While only 39 percent percent approve of Biden’s job performance, 49 percent disapprove, a drop of six points in one week. Overall, Biden’s evaporating approval numbers are primarily due to Democrats, who have begun abandoning him amid the challenges of inflation, Afghanistan, and coronavirus. Nearly nine out of ten Democrats had approved of Biden for almost half of his first year, but Democrats have since dropped support of the president by nine percent in one week (77 percent...

Eleven years ago, the Anti-Defamation League surprised many by opposing an Islamic center planned for Lower Manhattan, blocks from the World Trade Center site the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, even as its leader denounced anti-Muslim bigotry. Now, the ADL’s CEO says the position, taken four years before he joined the civil rights organization, was a mistake. “We were wrong, plain and simple,” Jonathan Greenblatt wrote in an op-ed published Saturday morning on CNN. […] The apology comes days before the 20th anniversary of the 2001 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania It...

For years, the Israeli “Tavor” was marketed as the rifle of the future, and many of the Israel Defense Forces infantry fighters proudly carried it, enthusiastic about its convenience and futuristic look. Just 10 years after integrating it into the Israeli army, however, the IDF will begin transitioning the brigades currently using it and the micro-“Tavor” to the American M4, known as a “flat-top” rifle. One of the IDF’s infantry brigades is expected to receive the M4 rifle in the near future, and other brigades will follow. The Israeli-made rifles will not be retired completely, but rather will be transferred...

A long-secret report, written 18 months before 9/11 by senior members of President Clinton’s national security team, concluded that U.S. intelligence were failing in their attempts to break al Qaeda, and warned that agencies were not structured or adequately funded to meet the threat posed by Osama bin Laden.U.S. counterterrorism policy, the team judged, required “immediate revision,” and laid out a series of recommendations – some “time-critical”– needed to stop future al Qaeda attacks on U.S. interests. By Sept. 11, 2001, though, key recommendations had still not been acted upon. The report, known as the Millennium Alert After Action Review (MAAR),...
