A bar in London serves beverages and snacks to those for whom man’s best friend can also be a drinking partner, offering “puptails” such as a Bloodhound Mary or Barkarita to dogs brought along by their owners for a drink. “I think everyone wants to have a life. When you are a dog carer or dog parent, you feel quite bad if you leave them alone,” said Jamie Swan, who opened the After Bark bar and cafe in June. The dog drinks skip the alcohol, but the canines can enjoy a “Howlapaw Sling” of raw carrot juice or a “Great...

MANAGUA, Nicaragua -- Nicaraguan police placed under house arrest a seventh presidential contender on Saturday, meaning that almost all of those who could have challenged President Daniel Ortega in the Nov. 7 elections have now been detained. Opposition leader Noel Vidaurre was placed under police custody at his home on Saturday, as was political commentator Jaime Arellano. Arellano had been called in for questioning regarding a commentary he wrote criticizing an Ortega speech.....

The next race for the White House remains far down the road. It doesn’t officially begin until the conclusion of the 2022 midterm elections, which are still more than a year and a quarter away. But with President Biden and former President Trump taking a few jabs at each other while they were both headlining campaign style events this weekend, Americans were witness to a what could be considered a little taste of a potential 2024 presidential election rematch. Biden, back on the campaign trial for the first time since succeeding Trump in the White House in January, did something...

Nancy Pelosi used to point her angry finger at Donald Trump, but she leaves him for dust when it comes to busting norms, dividing Congress and causing mayhem. If anyone is to blame for the hyper-partisanship in Washington these days, it’s the spiteful House speaker. She behaves more like a Mafia don waging a gang war than a dignified, fair and honest presiding officer, which is what the speaker’s role requires. Pelosi abuses her power in ways that once were unthinkable. Her speakership has been the antithesis of Lincoln’s entreaty to “the better angels of our nature.” Everyone in Congress...

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s top aide warned on Sunday that unvaccinated people will have fewer freedoms than those who have decided to get the coronavirus jab. Helge Braun, the outgoing leader’s chief of staff, told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper that they may find themselves being denied entry to bars, cinemas or sporting events. The onset of a fourth wave of the virus “would not be without consequences,” the 48-year-old official told the Sunday edition of the popular tabloid. “If we have a high rate of infection despite our testing procedures then the unvaccinated will have to reduce their contacts,”...

Billionaire and inventor George Soros recently provided a generous donation to a racial justice organization that supports defunding the police. The Hungarian-born American philanthropist donated $1 million to the Color Of Change PAC on May 14, according to records from the Federal Election Commission. The PAC refers to itself as the 'nation's largest online racial justice organization,' calling for 'divesting from and dismantling the systems that unjustly harm Black people.'

President Joe Biden on Sunday said he remained adamant about the need to create a pathway for US citizenship for so-called Dreamer immigrants, but it 'remains to be seen' if that will be part of a $3.5trillion budget measure. Biden, returning to the White House after spending the weekend at his home in Wilmington, Delaware, said that helping the Dreamers remained a priority. 'There must be a pathway to citizenship,' he said.

Most Americans in major cities are more worried about crime than defunding the police - as a new poll shows about 90 percent of Detroit residents actually want more cops. The poll from USA TODAY and the Detroit Free Press conducted with Suffolk University found that Detroit residents overwhelmingly agree that they would feel safer with more cops on the street. Detroit was not alone, as a poll from WNBC, Telemundo 47 and Politico conducted with Marist last month shows that 70 percent of black Democrats want more cops patrolling the Big Apple.

A senior Chinese diplomat on Monday bluntly warned the visiting American deputy secretary of state, Wendy R. Sherman, that the Biden administration’s strategy of pursuing both confrontation and cooperation with Beijing was sure to fail. China’s assistant foreign minister, Xie Feng, told Ms. Sherman that the United States’ “competitive, collaborative and adversarial rhetoric” was a “thinly veiled attempt to contain and suppress China,” according to a summary of Mr. Xie’s comments that the Chinese foreign ministry sent to reporters. Ms. Sherman’s meetings offered the latest gauge of the Biden administration’s strategy of stepping up pressure against the Chinese government on...

One of America’s most influential pastors is facing a crisis. No, it’s not the crisis of personal scandal. It’s the crisis of church division—over race, ideology, and minutiae of church procedure. Putting aside the procedural arguments, that division is a microcosm of the racial conflicts that are dividing the larger American church and the nation itself. David Platt is a bestselling author, the former president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board, and the pastor of McLean Bible Church (MBC), a huge and influential church located outside Washington, D.C. Platt is facing a revolt from self-described “conservative” congregants, a...

...Business Insider recently surveyed 1,500 young people from Gen Z, known as Zoomers, and found they were about evenly split between Republicans and Democrats. Sadly, all the news in the MSM blares that Gen Z is very liberal, and most of the major polling companies like Pew lean to the left so the real numbers aren’t getting out. Pew deliberately changes the narrative by doing things like breaking up polls into “white evangelicals” vs. “non-white evangelicals,” in order to cause division and never actually produce real data about what groups like evangelicals think. Contrary to perceptions that only old people...

Union bosses are urging key workers to ignore the Government's exemptions from self-isolation and stay home for 10 days if they are 'pinged' by the NHS Covid app, in a move that threatens to make life even harder for shoppers, commuters and holidaymakers. Leaders of the UK's biggest unions, including the RMT, Unison and Usdaw, are telling critical workers in transport, food and border control among other sectors to quarantine if they are contacted by the app, citing fears they could become infected in the workplace. Steve Hedley, the RMT's senior assistant general-secretary, has threatened strike action over the exemption...

PAPEETE, French Polynesia (AP) — President Emmanuel Macron is visiting French Polynesia to showcase France’s commitment to the region amid concerns about the impact of climate change on the Pacific island territory, the legacy of French nuclear testing on its atolls — and most of all, growing Chinese dominance in the region.... ...The 4.8 million-square-kilometer (1.85 million-square-mile) Exclusive Economic Zone of French Polynesia has significant fishing and mineral resources, and authorities are seeking U.N. permission to extend the territory’s continental shelf. France is trying to “strike back at obvious Chinese lust” for Pacific resources, said Regnault, who wrote a recent...

Hello All - It's with great regret that I inform this community that this site will be closing within 48 hours. I have been threatened with "Consumer Action in Superior Court" due to allowing people to freely debate COVID-19 in the WRP forum. Clearly, this site cannot operate the way it has for the last 20 years in the era of COVID-19. I'm not going to get into the details here, but I'm just a guy with a hobby horse site, and I can't afford to put my family at further risk because COVID Nazis want to force people to...

We have in this Sunday’s Gospel the very familiar miracle of the loaves and the fishes. One is tempted to say, “Oh, that one …” and then tune out, but it contains a personal appeal directly from the Lord’s lips to our ears: “Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?” Immediately, objections begin to pop up in our minds, but let’s be still and allow the Lord to instruct us by applying this gospel in three stages. I would like to apply it in such a way as to illustrate our need to evangelize the culture in...

Andrew of Phu Yen, the Catholic protomartyr of Vietnam, was executed on this date in 1644 at Ke Cham. Baptized with his mother in 1641 by French missionary Alexandre de Rhodes, our man Andrew was only 19 years old at the time of his protomartyrdom. Vietnam in this period was amid a long-running civil war that divided the country north and south; according to de Rhodes’s memoirs — Francophones can read it from chapter XXXII of his Voyages et missions du père Alexandre de Rhodes de la Compagnie de Jésus en la Chine et autres royaumes de l’Orient — a...
