On Thursday, NASA released a stunning photo of a sea of dunes on Mars. It also shows wind-sculpted lines surrounding Mars' frosty northern polar cap. The section captured in the shot represents an area that is 31 kilometers (19 miles) wide, NASA said. The sea of dunes, however, actually covers an area as large as Texas. The photo is a false color image, meaning that the colors are representative of temperatures. Blue represents cooler climes, and the shades of yellow mark out "sun-warmed dunes," the US space agency wrote. The photo is made of a combination of images captured by...

Turk, also an alum of the Obama administration, was the Deputy Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) in 2018 at the time of the conference. The 2018 China International Energy Industry Expo (CIEI) was hosted in the city of Taiyuan and was “established with the approval of the State Council” and “jointly sponsored” by two Chinese government entities: the Ministry of Commerce...

Two professors at Harvard Medical School, Drs. Bram Wispelwey and Michelle Morse, are calling for a revision of hospital emergency triage procedures. "The idea that patients should be given priority for treatment based on the urgency of each case without regard to race is inherently racist because it fails to consider the 400 years of discrimination against minorities," Wispelwey said. "Only by balancing this out by leaning the other way can society begin to pay for the damage done to these people." Under the proposed new triage protocol, emergency room doctors would first make a determination of the race of...

Lana Clayton said she found her husband Steve Clayton dead at the bottom of a staircase in their South Carolina home. The businessman, who created physical therapy clinics, had been married to his wife for five years when he died. Initially, the coroner's office ruled Clayton died from a possible heart attack. However, Clayton's nephew, Nick French, a police officer in a nearby town, noticed something was odd about Lana's behavior when he rushed to the mansion to console her. "She made no mention of attempting to revive him," French tells "48 Hours" correspondent Peter Van Sant. "And Steve always...

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham was set Monday to sign legislation that will legalize recreational marijuana use and sales in the state, making it the seventh since last November to do so... The governor called a special legislative session to tackle the issue in late March after legalization efforts faltered. Legislators rallied behind a legalization framework from state Rep. Javier Martinez of Albuquerque that provides automated procedures for expunging past pot convictions. The bill gives the governor a strong hand in oversight of recreational marijuana through her appointed superintendent of the Regulation and Licensing Department. Regulators can put a...

When a gunman killed four people and wounded a fifth at a Southern California office building recently, news outlets, over and over, called it the third in a string of mass shootings. “The violence in the city of Orange was the third major mass shooting in just over two weeks,” an Associated Press story published on chicagotribune.com read. “Last week a gunman opened fire at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, and killed 10. A week before that, six Asian women were among eight people killed at three Atlanta-area spas.”

An Austrian man who was fined €500 (£425) for loudly farting near police officers has had his fine reduced to €100 (£85) after launching an appeal. The unidentified man was whacked with a fine in Vienna after 'offending public decency' by 'farting provocatively' at police in June last year. However, he then challenged the fine, in what must have been a very strange day in court for all concerned. The man told the courts that breaking wind was merely a 'biological process' - well, you can't argue with that, I suppose. The man said even if he had done it...

CBS News senior White House and political correspondent Ed O’Keefe swooned how more than 100 of “the nation’s top corporate leaders met virtually on Saturday to discuss ways for companies” to fight “restrictive” voting laws across the country. The “corporate leaders” involved included the CEO of the parent company that oversees O’Keefe’s own news organization. What’s interesting is that some of the CEOs in the meeting reportedly tuned in from the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. The state had recently passed legislation protecting voter integrity. Liberal attendees included notorious LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon, former Fox...

The U.S. Supreme Court has delivered a heavy blow to a major left-wing group. In the 7–2 ruling, the justices sided with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, thwarting the Sierra Club’s bid to obtain documents concerning a regulation finalized in 2014 relating to power plants. “The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requires that federal agencies make records available to the public upon request unless those records fall within one of nine exemptions. Exemption 5 incorporates the privileges available to Government agencies in civil litigation, such as the deliberative process privilege, attorney-client privilege, and attorney work-product privilege,” Supreme Court Justice...

Residents of Rochester, New York, stepped up last week to draw attention to the massive spike in violence and homicide in the area, blasting left-wing Black Lives Matter activists for ignoring crime when it doesn’t involve police. “If the police were killing us at the rate we’re killing ourselves, I suspect this town would be on fire,” said Rudy Rivera, CEO of Rochester’s Father Laurence Tracy Advocacy Center on North Clinton Avenue. Rochester’s homicides have exploded this year, nearly tripling the number of murders recorded last year at this time, Spectrum News reports. Two weeks ago, Rochester man Markese Estimable,...

According to Grundy County primary election results from June 2020, Lang won the Democratic ticket for Grundy County Sheriff and received 517 votes. Documents show that he lost during the fall's general election against Republican Kirk Dolleslager. During the general election, Lang received 22.3% of the vote while Dolleslager...

...Some drugs that neutralize stomach acid, such as famotidine, are associated with reduced severity, but others, such as Prilosec, correlate with higher infection rates and risk of death, at least in patients hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2 infections. In a retrospective analysis posted on medRxiv of roughly 1,300 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, Nakaya and colleagues found that individuals taking proton-pump inhibitors, including Prilosec, had a two- to three-fold higher risk of death compared with hospitalized patients not taking those drugs. This observation falls in line with a study published in late August in the American Journal of Gastroenterology by doctors in the US...

There are a few things Tom Cotter like to do the old-fashioned way, and finding vintage iron by doing his own footwork is one of them. However, the occasional tip comes through that he can’t ignore. In this case, it’s a call from Steve Davis who has a 365-foot long chicken coop that is no longer used for poultry. Instead, the structure packs all manner of vintage horsepower, of both the two- and the four-wheeled variety. The property might look familiar to long-time Barn Find Hunter viewers, because Tom first visited back in 2017. There weren’t enough hours in the...

Most people probably think of epidemiologists as simply doctors who specialize in contagious illness, but that would be only part of the story. Indeed, rather than studying and finding cures for diseases, arguably the most important component of the field is increasingly being viewed as something else entirely - the molding of public behavior. This explains why so many who go into epidemiology hold undergraduate degrees in public health, which focuses on the social and behavioral sciences, instead of the more hard-core sciency stuff studied by their medical doctor peers, like biology or biochemistry.
