For nearly two decades, commercial wind farms have been touted in Maine as a way to generate electricity without pollution, and as a way rural locales in Maine can generate revenue for themselves by hosting turbines worth hundreds of millions of dollars. But several counties and towns are finding out they are getting less revenue out of the wind projects than they had expected when they were wooed in the 2000s and 2010s by developers looking to erect turbines several hundred feet tall along local remote, elevated ridgelines. In some cases, the developers are arguing that recent advancements in wind...

A devotional being sold at Target and other major national retailers has people asking how a prayer book can promote racism against White people. “A Rhythm of Prayer: A Collection of Meditations for Renewal” is a best seller in the Christian Meditation Worship & Devotion section on Amazon as well. SHANGHAI (Reuters) -A joint China-World Health Organization (WHO) study into COVID-19 has provided no credible answers about how the pandemic began, and more rigorous investigations are required - with or without Beijing’s involvement, a group of international scientists and researchers said on Wednesday. The joint study, released last week, said the likeliest transmission route for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, involved bats and other wildlife. It all but ruled out the possibility it had leaked from a laboratory. In an open letter, 24 scientists and researchers from Europe, the United States, Australia and Japan said the study was tainted...

What's the first thing you think of when you get on a plane? Safety, right? I mean, there are lots of other things you might think of as you take your seat – the leg room, the food menu, whether the WiFi works, how unspeakably annoying the stranger sitting next to you might turn out to be, or even worse, if the cabin steward will be one of those ghastly 'comedian' types cracking jokes and dancing their way through the safety routine? But ultimately, the one constant thought process most of us when we board an aircraft that's going to...

When the coronavirus arrived in New York City a year ago, it hit enclaves of undocumented immigrants with a fury, killing thousands and wiping out the service and construction jobs that kept many families afloat. Lifelines like unemployment insurance and federal stimulus checks were out of reach because undocumented people are ineligible for most government aid. Instead, they have relied on food pantries, lenient landlords and loans from friends. But after a sweeping move by lawmakers this week, New York will now offer one-time payments of up to $15,600 to undocumented immigrants who lost work during the pandemic. The effort...

A self-proclaimed “public theologian and ecumenical minister” specializing in “racial and gender oppression,” who once gave a lecture in which she blamed racism on “pathological whiteness,” is in hot water after a screenshot from her prayer book highlighted her own hatred for white people. Chanequa Walker-Barnes wrote in her book, “A Rhythm of Prayer: A Collection of Meditations for Renewal,” that she wants God to help her “hate White people.” If that prayer is not answered, she wants God to help her “at least to want to hate [white people].” And if that doesn’t work, “At least, I want to...

There is no doubt the past year has given reason for libertarians to stand firm in our convictions of limited government. And the erroneous actions of the ruling class have convinced others to join the cause to fight for liberty. The economic impacts of the lockdowns are irreparable for many: three out of every 10 small business owners in America don’t think their business will survive this pandemic. That is nearly nine million businesses closed because of irresponsible governing. Not only is the loss of employers a crucial number to note, but more than 20 million jobs nationwide have been...

Protecting people from murder, assault, battery, and mutilation by criminals and predators is the first and most basic government function. A state that cannot do this has no moral legitimacy to do anything else.To explain his veto of a bill that would have protected children from transgender genital mutilation, Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson claimed it would be “a vast government overreach.”Using language similar to North Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem’s in vetoing a bill to protect girls’ sports from unfair and irrational transgender male competition, Hutchinson further claimed:I don’t shy away from the battle when it is necessary and defensible. But...

The Biden administration did not solicit bids for a multimillion contract to house migrant families in hotels and instead gave the massive contract to an organization whose leadership has ties to the White House, including one official who was on the Biden transition team. In its rush to stand up facilities to hold families who come over the southern border illegally in rising numbers, the Biden administration signed a deal that a member of Congress and people with knowledge of the matter said presented a conflict of interest and wasted existing government facilities.

This past Sunday, critically acclaimed CBS program "60 Minutes" broadcast an alleged bombshell report on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and an apparent "pay to play" scheme involving supermarket chain Publix and the state's distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. The report alleged that because of a campaign donation Publix made to DeSantis, the governor favored them in the rollout of the vaccine in the state. The program further stated that in doing this, minorities were adversely affected since Publix stores are not as prevalent in their neighborhoods. The segment included a video of a confrontation between DeSantis and the "60 Minutes" correspondent in...
