The number of homicides and shootings in Chicago spiked dramatically in 2020, ending with more bloodshed than in all but one year in more than two decades, statistics released by police on Friday revealed. After three years of falling homicide totals, 2020 ended with 769 homicides — 274 more than the previous year and the most since the 784 homicides in 2016. The latest shooting victim figures told the same story, with the year ending with 4,033 shooting victims compared with 2,598 the year before. And it never let up, as is illustrated by the fact that in December, there...

California’s prison system, which has been exceptionally hard-hit by the coronavirus, has started vaccinating some inmates — but none so far at the 25 prisons that have been most overwhelmed by infections, including San Quentin, Avenal State Prison and the California Institution for Men. Elizabeth Gransee, a spokeswoman for J. Clark Kelso, a court-appointed official who oversees prison health care in California, said on Wednesday that the prison system had decided to concentrate its vaccination efforts at facilities where “people are at significant risk of becoming infected or severely ill from the coronavirus.” But the facilities chosen — the Central...

ANALYSIS/OPINION: Leftists love fear. In a choice between persuading by logic and pressuring by fear, leftists will go for fear every time. Why? It’s the go-to motivator for the nonthinking crowd. It’s the means of moving mountains without having to do all that hard thinking stuff. Or more to point, it’s the means of moving mountains without giving opportunity for the masses to do all that hard thinking stuff. Quick, do as you’re told — no time to think! So it goes with the coronavirus, and how the Democrats in positions of power across the United States have managed to...

“At Home in God’s House, Growing in Wisdom” (Luke 2:40-52) We just sang: “Within the Father’s house the Son has found his home.” Even at twelve years old, Jesus was at home in God’s house. And earlier in this service, we sang: “For He is our childhood’s pattern, day by day like us He grew.” Jesus is our childhood’s pattern, but he is also our adulthood’s pattern, as well! Listen to these verses from today’s Gospel. At the start of the reading, Luke 2, verse 40: Jesus “grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was...

As thousands of Trump supporters prepare to descend upon the Capitol this coming week amid a presidential election they are contesting, there is a mass of confusion and conflicting information about what happens next. You may have heard that a growing list of Republican members of the House and Senate have pledged to object to the electoral count of some states during Wednesday's joint session of Congress. Most analysts have said such objections, in practical terms, amount to nothing because while they can trigger debates lasting up to two hours, it would take a majority in both the House and...

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell called the upcoming electoral vote certification "the most consequential vote" on a call with senators this week, according to Senator Mitt Romney, who was on the call. Congress will convene on January 6 to count each state's electoral votes and reaffirm President-elect Joe Biden's victory.

When the Constitution formed this nation, we were a country of around 4 million. But in 2020 at least 74 million Americans have had their votes tossed in the trash along with the Constitution. More Americans had their votes discarded, stolen, nullified, corrupted, and obstructed in this election than existed in the entire United States when it fought for its independence from monarchy and tyranny, when it brought into being a “more perfect union”, when it expanded westward, and when brother against brother fought in a civil war to preserve that union. There were more Americans who voted for President...

Central to both quantum chemistry and the Schrödinger equation is the wave function – a mathematical object that completely specifies the behavior of the electrons in a molecule. The wave function is a high-dimensional entity, and it is therefore extremely difficult to capture all the nuances that encode how the individual electrons affect each other. Many methods of quantum chemistry in fact give up on expressing the wave function altogether, instead attempting only to determine the energy of a given molecule. This however requires approximations to be made, limiting the prediction quality of such methods. Other methods represent the wave...

Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) told Breitbart News on Saturday that his Democrat opponent in Tuesday’s upcoming runoff election, Jon Ossoff, is “compromised” by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in much the same way other young Democrats have been targeted by CCP agents. Perdue made the allegation on Saturday and it comes after a series of damaging revelations about Ossoff have emerged in recent weeks. It also comes after Ossoff was finally confronted, by Fox News reporter Peter Doocy, about the matter last week on the campaign trail in Georgia. Perdue compared Ossoff, whose documentary film company has financial ties to...

A federal appeals court in California on Thursday ruled to lift a ban on President Donald Trump’s proclamation that blocks immigrants from entering the United States if they lack health insurance or the means to pay for hospital bills. In a Dec. 31 opinion (pdf), the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco said that Trump acted within his authority when, in October 2019, he signed the Proclamation on the Suspension of Entry of Immigrants Who Will Financially Burden the United States Healthcare System. The ruling reverses a federal court decision to block the implementation of the president’s...

A federal appeals court on Saturday affirmed a judge’s ruling to dismiss a lawsuit by Rep. Louie Gohmert and other Republicans that sought to empower Vice President Mike Pence to reject Joe Biden’s electoral victory. A three-judge panel of the Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia agreed with the lower court that Gohmert, a Texas congressman, and his colleagues lacked standing to file the lawsuit. The decision leaves Gohmert with the option to appeal to the Supreme Court before Wednesday’s certification in Congress.

As we just reported, almost a dozen more Senators will now be joining Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and dozens of House members in objecting to the electoral count on Jan. 6. That’s caused a reaction from some on the left, including from Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) who termed the senators who said that they would be objecting “enemies of democracy.” Name & shame these enemies of democracy:Ted Cruz (TX)Ron Johnson (WI)James Lankford (OK)Steve Daines (MT)John Kennedy (LA)Marsha Blackburn (TN)Mike Braun (IN)Cynthia Lummis (WY)Roger Marshall (KS)Bill Hagerty (TN)Tommy Tuberville (AL) https://t.co/5QNFpHGr7X— Eric Swalwell (@ericswalwell) January 2, 2021This of course is nonsense,...
